Well the pre-season has finally started, and I’ve got to say that after last night’s game I am quite impressed.
Now I know it is pre-season, that the games mean nothing and they are often completely irrelevant when it comes to judging a team, but the Habs looked very strong with a rookie filled lineup against a Penguins team that iced mainly starters and veterans.
Carey Price a bright young netminder that is definately better Justin Pogge, Devan Dubnyk, Josh Harding, James Reimer Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers and many other young goalie prospects.
According to TSN, Scott Niedermayer is now leaning towards returning to Anaheim. He has not made his official decision yet, but he has stated that he wants to do the right thing and will consult his family for their opinions. His brother, Rob, told TSN that he would obviously love to have Scott return.
What is going to happen to the habs before the start of the season? Are they going to make this “huge” deal to bring in a big name or do nothing and see how eveyrhting works out?
Well Rumors just keep changing for the Canadiens eveyrday, who will be coming the Montreal and become the Next big name to play for The Habs? I thik we can all agree that none of us ahve a clue really, but there are some hints going around and I’m trying to piece them together. In the end we all know that I will be way off because when you think Gainey is going to od something he does the opposite. But here’s what I think may be happening
This is for all the Gainey doubters, as Ive said before Bob has a plan, develop from within, make some minor trades, and sign a few key free agents along the way.
Now dont get me wrong, the problem with the Habs right now is toughness and grit, however Bob did try to fix this by trying to sign Shannahan last year and Smyth this year. When we start winning the free agents will come.
For the longest time the Canadiens have been saying they need a Big center who is able to produce and at the same time able to push other opponents around. But do we really need that kind of player right now or would we as fans even want that kinda of player right now?
The Montreal Gazette posted a very interesting article this morning about Tomas Plekanec, who previously was number 35, has changed to almost forever worn by Plekanec before arriving in Montreal, No. 14. He had worn this number as a boy and a budding pro in his native Czech Republic, then with the AHL’s Hamilton BUlldogs.
For the Canadiens Section Please
Looking at the Canadiens roster section of the TSN website I figured we could take a look at what the Canadiens have now in terms of depth at each current position, who the odd men out could be and who is expendable. I’m not going to talk about who should be traded for who or play on what line as at this point, Who cares? I’m not the coach or GM and unless Bob or Guy signed up for HTR and are reading this…neither are you.
Last Years NHL Stats (GP-G-A-P)
Take a look at what MTL looks like going into season now. Tell me if your satisfied!
Well, there are three possible scenarios that have been laid out for the habs. Of course some minor players in the deals might switch, but the key players remain the same.
The Montreal Canadiens have reportedly made an offer to UFA Defencemen Patrice Brisebois believed to be a 700 000$, 1-year contract.
While Gainey has brought over a couple of older players the last couple of years like Mark Streit and Jani Lahit, what about Alexandre Daigle? We all know he was never what he was supposed to be in the NHL but the last year he played with Min he played in 46 games and had 28 points. He played last season with Davos and had 61 points in 44 games.
