Gainey in the driver's seat

With Brewer signing today long term today, and Zhitnik just being dealt for Braydon Coburn who by the way is going to be a real good one. Gainey holds all the cards when it comes to D-men. With Rivet, Souray, Markov and to a much lesser extent Ninnima, im sure Bob’s phone is ringing off the hook. Now look at what Philly got for Zhitnik, a very very good prospect. Anaheim got a 1st round pick for Shane O’brien (who I never heard of). Souray and Rivet’s stock just went way up, I think Gainey may not have a choice but to move both of them. With Anaheim moving a D-man they must be looking to add a better one, could it be Souray ??? If it is, I want Ryan Getzlaf in return.

Habs are NOT in the market for another goalie!

TSN and Rogers Sportsnet continue to both report that the Canadiens are looking for another goalie. they’re NOT.

Souray to be a SHARK?

Alright I’ll make this short. Any habs fan obviously knows the situation with our defence at the end of the season. Souray, Markov, Rivet and Ninimaa all without contracts. As for Ninnimaa no one cares, Markov is said to be the most important of the four to sign to a new contract, rivet is mentioned in numerous rumors and as much as everyone wants to keep souray he is probably the most likely to leave.

Habs want to keep Souray

The score reported that bob Gainey has contacted the Sheldon Souray camp and made it clear that they have no intentions of trying to trade Souray before the trade deadline and have all intentions of trying to sign him this summer.

Kovy must go, maybe time for Saku too?

Alex Kov needs to be moved – 4.5 million with 13 goals just don’t cut the mustard. Get a good young player for him. Someone with heart. His salary can be used to keep Souray and say whatever you want Souray has become the voice of the team. I stood behind Saku the whole time he’s been with the habs but I’m serious when I say it’s time for a new leader.

Has Montreal been a playoff team at any point this season?

I’m not gonna say that Montreal didn’t have a good start, butI don’t think any great teams have 2+ month slumps. Now I know your gonna compare that to the record at the start of the season, but who hasn’t had a 6+ or 7+ game streak this year? I’m not saying Montreal’ was only 6 or 7 games, and just saying they got off to a quick startthen played like a normal team and now there playing like the team most people expected to see at the begining of the year. The team is honestly not very skilled.

What the Habs need for a successful 2007-2008 campaign

We’ve a lot of youth on this team. What do we need to become a contender for next year?

Armchair GMs, should the Habs try and make the playoffs?

What exactly are Gainey’s objectives? Is he trying to setup the Habs for a playoff run this season (whether it be successful or not)? Is he willing to set up the team for the next 5 years if it means sacrificing the rest of the season?

Bob Gainey looking forward to be a buyer, instead of a seller, etc, etc.

The Montreal Canadiens, in desperate situation, are negotiating with western teams, like San Jose Sharks and Anheim Ducks, to sell Sheldon Souray to them for prospects, draft picks, and 1 centremen, according to http://spectorshockey.tripod.com/spectors_trade_rumours.html.

Mike Cammalleri a Possibility?

Forget it. Mike Cammalleri coming to Montreal could make sense. Let me tell you why it doesn’t.

Big chance for the youngsters, or more meaningless shuffling?

The Canadiens are without Kovalev due to an elbow injury he has been feeling since Christmas, according to RDS.ca. In addition Huet may be out with a pulled hammy, he will find out this afternoon.

Somethings Gotta Give My Habs Rant

First off I am a huge Montreal fan and I will stick with my team through the good and the bad.  But something has to be done, take last nights game for instance Koivu(or captain hook) has been taking far too many penalties lately, not blaming everything on him the team took 9 penalties to New Jersey’s 3.  It’s nice to see them playing hard but they have to use their heads and avoid the pointless penalties.

Club Denying the need of change!

Fan of the Montreal Canadiens are probably starting to panic and they have good reason to be! From resent interviews from the press….many of the canadiens players are stating as well as coaches that the team does not need any change and they have a crew fit for a come back…
