Toronto Maple Leaf News and Rumors
Its less than two days from the trade deadline and have seen quite a few players gone so far.
- thrashers trade D Schneider to montreal for 2nd and 3rd round draft picks
- islanders trade F Mike Comrie & D Chris Campoli to Senators for F Dean McAmmond and a 1st round draft pick.
- Montreal trade F Steve Begin to Dallas for D Doug Janik
- Anaheim trade F Chris Kunitz and prospect F Eric Tangradi to Pittsburgh for D Ryan Whitney
- today*- Atlanta trade D Niklas Havelid to New Jersey for D Anssi Salmela
I have an idea for the Leafs. We all know the rumours about Columbus wanting Nikolai Antropov, and how Brian Burke wants a first rounder for him. Then there is Tomas Kaberle. He may very well be on his way out of Toronto this Wednesday. I though of a deal sending Antropov and Kaberle to Columbus.
I’ve posted this trade in a previous comment, and I recieved some positive feedback.
If anyone was listening into the FAN 590 today, Bob McKenzie has stated that Brian Burke is starting to take offers on propsects Jiri Tlusty, Anton Stralman, and current Leaf players Nik Antropov and Alexei Ponikarovsky.
If Burke and the Leafs are looking to trade with Kabarle then Calgary could be a possable partner. A trade that could work between the two clubs:
TOR= Greg Nemisz, 09′ 1st round pick, Eric Nystrom type player
During the broadcast of an nhl game on tsn, Pierre Mcguire stated that burke has made it known that another gm offered him a lottery pick in this years draft for defenceman Luke Schenn,
Burke turned down this trade and i am willing to bet that the gm was Brian Lawton of the lightning. The lightning are in desperate need of defence and i cannot see Burke turning down this deal from Atlanta or New York who are in position to pick Victor Hedman and John Tavaras.
TheStar.com is reporting that Thomas Kaberle is now likely to stay with the Leafs and not be moved after all despite the fact that he has provided Burke with his list of his preferred destinations.
Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun is reporting that Dominic Moore’s play has improved so much this season that he may now be n the trade block.
This is my first post on htr and i wanted to address possible deadline scenarios for Toronto. Here are a few possible trades that could benefit the leafs in my opinion, Please comment!
According to Steve Buffery of the Toronto Sun not only has Tomas Kaberle waived his no trade clause but apparently his agent has handed the Maple Leafs a list of 10 possible destinations for his client, also Brian Burke has denied a report out of the New York Post the stated Burke saying that the only untouchables on his team are Luke Schenn, John Mitchell and Mikail Grabovski.
The leafs are rebuilding their team. Luke Schenn has already shown he belongs in the NHL. It has already been publicly said on various sports stations that in the future schenn will likely be the next captain. That is likely to happen in a couple years. Howerver with Kaberle, Kubina, Antropov, Ponikarovsky likely to be moved by the trade deadline that would leave Schenn a spot at possibly an Alternate Captain role. Should the leafs trade those four player that would leave only Moore and Mayers of the 5 current captains. Schenn has been a solid defenceman for the leafs this year. If kaberle and kubina are traded that would leave him as the leafs top D-man, as Ron Wilson himself said schenn was top 3 as far as the leafs defence this year. With Schenn continuing to play the way he is and the leafs trading their current veterans, Schenn just could be an alternate captain next year.
