Here is a look at a some of the Flames players who could be in the sights of other clubs as the trade deadline looms.
Is Leafs’ Bozak headed to Vancouver for Luongo?
According to Vancouver Canucks assistant general manager Laurence Gilman, the Luongo trade chatter is becoming more than just web scuttlebutt.
“Mike is in discussions with multiple teams … Talks are beyond the tire-kicking stage,” Gilman told the Vancouver media referring to Canucks general manager Mike Gillis.
Various reports from the left coast suggest Leafs centre Tyler Bozak is in the mix. Bozak will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray doesn’t expect to make any big deals before NHL trade deadline Wednesday
It could be all talk and no action for Bryan Murray.
The Senators GM has been working the phones with the trade deadline set for Wednesday at 3 p.m., but if he does make a move he doesn’t think it will be big.
Murray also remains hopeful centre Jason Spezza will return at some point. He confirmed Spezza likely won’t play during the regular season, but hasn’t been ruled out for the playoffs.

“Bring your wallet, boys, if you want to get some of these players,” said Healy. “Remember the days of 2009 when [former NHLer] Billy Guerin, who was the captain of the New York Islanders? Pittsburgh gets him, he had 16 goals. A fifth-round pick, that’s all you got for him.”
Healy was referencing some of the recent moves made by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who just landed Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames, but also made some noise last week by acquiring longtime Dallas Stars forward Brenden Morrow and Sharks defenceman Douglas Murray.
Sabres will be sellers, but would welcome picks
This does not appear to be the Buffalo Sabres’ year. Their attitude heading toward Wednesday’s NHL trade deadline will reflect that.
“The things that we will look to add will focus on things beyond this year,” General Manager Darcy Regier said by phone Friday evening. “It may include this year, but the focus is going to be on next year and maybe even beyond that. So things that we do are going to be with that light in mind.”
RUMOURS DU JOUR
The Leafs have been sniffing around the NHL’s goalie market and have held talks with the Canucks regarding Roberto Luongo. While Vancouver has always coveted centre Tyler Bozak to help shore up the middle, it will be interesting to see if this deal can get done. Getting Luongo would help the Leafs stabilize their goaltending for the next six years.
Clowe trade could come soon
The Sharks appear to be moving closer towards trading left wing Ryane Clowe.
A source has informed CSNCalifornia.com that the Sharks have approached Clowe’s agent about the possibility of waiving his no-trade clause, and a deal could happen as soon as Sunday.
Sabres GM Regier heads toward trade deadline focusing on next year, ‘maybe even beyond that’
The Sabres, who host Washington on Saturday, are 12th in the Eastern Conference. They are four points out of the final playoff spot, held by the New York Rangers, with one extra game played.
The status has Regier looking toward draft picks and prospects instead of acquiring roster players.
“The value of draft picks is probably a little higher, meaning that with the cap going down and the new contracts on the other side that have been signed, I think it’s added value to draft picks,” Regier said. “In some ways, it’s going to be harder to acquire draft picks for players in the event you’re trying to trade a player to get draft picks. I think the value in past years, I think you could probably expect a little higher value in draft picks than you can now.”
Price for Bouwmeester is high
Perhaps the biggest name left on the trade market is Jay Bouwmeester.
That’s if he is indeed dealt.
The Calgary Flames don’t have to necessarily move him — he’s got one more year left on his deal (at $6.6 million), so he’s not a pending unrestricted free agent forcing the NHL club to seek immediate asset return.
Martin St. Louis isn’t on the block
Let’s put those Martin St. Louis trade rumors to bed.
For whatever reason, the star winger’s name has been bandied about in media speculation ahead of Wednesday’s trade deadline, most recently as a possible fit for Boston, but it won’t happen.
At least not according to the GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

While debate rages over the return on the Jarome Iginla trade, the Calgary Flames are quietly going about dealing another asset that should net them a bigger prize.
Jay Bouwmeester will likely never win a Norris Trophy. No one will mistake the lanky blueliner for a mean cuss like Scott Stevens or Chris Pronger. He is not a master orator like Michael Cammalleri or Alex Tanguay.
