The Wings do like Winnipeg’s Dustin Byfuglien, a right-handed shooting 6-foot-5, 250-pound behemoth, as a top-pair defenseman or top-six right winger, but they’d need to clear space for his $5.2 million salary — and to be certain he’d re-sign, as he’s a pending unrestricted free agent.
Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan has shown he is not afraid to pull the trigger on a big trade (Troy Brouwer, Pheonix Copley and a pick for T.J. Oshie) and I could see him going hard after Vancouver Canucks pending free agent Dan Hamhuis, who spent the first six years of his NHL career under Barry Trotz in Nashville. Now 33, Hamhuis is recovering from facial fractures suffered on a Dan Boyle shot he took to the jaw back in December.
James Reimer is an interesting case. If he continues his stellar play — his .932 save percentage is second best in the league — he would be attractive to playoff-bound teams looking for some depth in net.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman talking to Oilers uber-insider Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now and dropping a few trade rumour bombshells.
Stauffer mentioned the Oilers trying to upgrade at right defence from Justin Schultz by moving for either Sami Vatanen of Anaheim or Travis Hamonic of the Islanders, as both teams can use a scoring winger.
Breaking down Rangers’ trade deadline options: Kevin Shattenkirk, Jonathan Drouin, Patrick Marleau on the list
St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was born in New Rochelle. He grew up a Rangers fan. His favorite player was Brian Leetch, and it’s believed he wants to play for the Blueshirts one day. He turns 27 on Friday. He is a right-handed shot and a major power play weapon, and he paired with Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh on the United States’ 2008-09 World Junior championship team.
Stamkos can become a free agent this summer, and you can’t get through a couple of hockey shifts without speculation that the Toronto-born Stamkos will end up playing for his hometown team. Rumors ramp up even more when the Lightning plays the Maple Leafs.
P. Chiarelli would've seen a fair amount of Clendening at BU and don't be surprised if the Oilers move out a right shot D within a few weeks

And TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie added that one player who could be moved on the rental market is Jiri Hudler. McKenzie said that despite the Calgary Flames’ forward having an off-year, he could still be enticing to teams looking to make a playoff push.
The most likely Leafs to move: Defenceman Roman Polak, forwards Daniel Winnik, Shawn Matthias and P.A. Parenteau. It’s highly unlikely anyone would be interested in Nick Spaling, Brad Boyes or defenceman Martin Marincin.
Lamoriello has decided not to go to Nashville for the all-star game, choosing to remain in Toronto to plot his trade strategy.
A Loui Eriksson reunion is just what the Stars need, but I doubt it’ll happen through a trade with Boston
Could Loui be in the mix to make return to Dallas to play alongside Spezza? We desperately need a true second line winger.
Heika: I would love Loui Eriksson to return. He is exactly what the Stars need. But I can’t imagine Boston trading him back after the Seguin deal. Maybe if he hits free agency.
“So if he goes to market, and he’s not on the market yet, look at Florida. Don’t forget Jim Benning, formerly of the Boston Bruins, who’s in Vancouver. He’d have some interest.
“Most believe that the Jets are focused on Dustin Byfuglien – but there’s still a chance they can sign both.”
Reimer: "I've loved being a Leaf & I’d like to be a Leaf my whole career, but obviously this unrestricted thing is sometimes a weird thing"

I'd be shocked if Florida GM Dale Tallon isn't making biggest push for UFA Ladd. Needs power winger. Had him in Chicago.
