The New Jersey Devils have been known as the low-budget team to be very successful. Can GM Lou Lamoriello run this team with a low-budget?

Guerin to meet with Rangers after midnight?

Thefourthperiod.com has learned that impending unrestricted free agent Bill Guerin will meet with NY Rangers management after tonight’s midnight deadline to discuss a possible contract with the Blueshirts.

Although I still have my doubts about this one, anything is possible, and this might dispell the rumors of the Stars having already agreed to contracts with Amonte and Guerin.

Selanne rejects Sharks offer

Huge loss for the Sharks. Selanne looked like he finally fit in with them towards the end of last year. Story from Oakland Tribune:

Grading Teams on Their Draft Picks (A-B)

Reading scouting reports, I realized it could take a long time for me to write about every draft pick chosen. In fact, it is hard to find every scouting report of every player drafted. I only examined the most significant players of the draft, the players judged to be most successful in the future.

Scouting reports came from three sources, so I had a good view about the players. It will be done in alphabetical order team by team.

Berezin Moves Once Again

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired the left wing from the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday for a fourth-round pick in the 2004 draft.

Islanders not expected to sign Amonte

Alan Hahn of Newsday reports that as of July 1, no one will be wearing #10 for the Islanders. That means that Mats Lindgren will not be offered a contract which is not surprising since he has sat most of the last 2 years unless Milbury can unload him in a trade and Tony Amonte will sign a huge deal with the Dallas Stars to play with his friend Mike Modano, not the NY Islanders.

On the Kasparitis front, Kasparitis is looking for 5 million a year however would take a small discount to play for the Islanders and stay at home. However he is looking for an 8 year deal and the Isles are reluctant to lock up someone for that long because they are committed to Peca for another 4 years and Yashin for 9 more years. The Islanders despite their success and large ticket price increase are still losing money and ownership is hesitant to lock in players for that length.

Milbury according to Hahn might go to training camp with the same lineup hoping players like Isbister and Kvasha step up.

Rangers Make Final Offer to The Moose

ESPN reports:

Where will they go?

There are going to be a lot of quality free agents this off-season, Curtis Joseph, Ed Belfour, Mike Richter, Byron Dafoe, Bobby Holik, Robert Lang, Bill Guerin, Chris Chelios, Teemu Selanne, Tony Amonte, Ron Francis, and Theo Fleury. The question is where will they go? Well I’ll see if I can help you out.

Gilmour Staying or Going?

All-Star Centre Doug Gilmour does not know his fate, but what is the fate of several other Montreal Canadiens?

Hawks Re-sing Thomas

TSN is reporting that the Chicago Black Hawks have Re-signed winger Steve Thomas.

Thomas struggled through an injury proned season but the team hopes he can return next season at full strength and pick off where he left off, Thomas had 3 goals in the teams final 7 games last season. He is projected as a potential second line winger.
