The Fourth Period is back? Damn! Last I went on it was a deck construction company. I sure could use a deck now.

Good signing by the Devils. It gives them a strong second-line center………for thier first line. Still, Nieuwy is one of the better face-off guys around. He still has some gas left and can easily reach 50+ points. Jersey will still be dominant is the East this year.

Poor Leafs. They just can’t get a break

    As a devout Leaf fan…

I truly hope Nieuwendyk socres a hat trick to sink the Leafs in the last game of some playoff series this year 🙂

  3. Enigma says:

I hope that happens too, nieuwendyke was more than willing to come to t.o. and the leafs passed on him, so hopefully something similar that you described does happen.

  4. wheresthesoda says:

    its about time

i really thought he was going to the leafs.

the devils need him, mike rupp isnt ready 2 replace nieuwendyk

  5. leafs2003champs says: said he was “close” to signing not that he has signed so I guess we will have to wait and see.

  6. habsoverserver says:

TFP also said Gilmour to retire. Which Gilmour in fact just did. Great player. Great career.

  7. leafs2003champs says:

also I have not seen newendyke’s resigning on the devils website.

  8. WeStSiDe says:

The Devils NEEDED to re sign him or they would have been up shit creek without a paddle as far as forwards go, there is only so far you hold back on your offense, Niewendyk was needed.

As far as him not with the Leafs, Toronto does not NEED him, it was talked about but the Leaf’s never made any indication they were interested, so to get mad is purely stupid. Sure Roberts and he are friends, but you cant sign someone for the sake of it. Im sure it would have been good to get him, but they have 4 million to work with and a defense not up to par, use some common sense guys.

  9. habsoverserver says:

Congrats to everyone who was able to spell Nieuwendyk correctly. I can’t wait for news on Mariusz Czerkawski, Eric Boguniecki, Vladimir Orszagh, Antti Laaksonen and Branko Radivojevic.

  10. Parks99 says:

Sportsnet news and Sportscentre just announced that the Nieuendyk report is wrong and he is still a free agent.

  11. Little_Devil says:

i wanna c that link cause u just might be a leaf fan crying that u didnt get him

  12. MantaRay says:

I know that Lou & Niewy have been hashing this out for the past few days. Its just a matter of time before its official. This was the only piece missing and now we have him back.

    Another Cup in NJ!!!!

  13. Little_Devil says:

it is official right he did resign w/ them i hope he did im a huge fan of niewy???? the guy who posted above u says otherwise is he just full of it?

  14. WeStSiDe says:

Get real, those comments are low blows and I doubt anyone would do that.

  15. Little_Devil says:

well i have been looking like crazy 2 c if he did not sign because im a big Nieuwendyk fan and i still can find anything saying he didnt or he offically did, which i hope he did

  16. Parks99 says:

Shutup man im not lying its not fair of u to accuse me of lying either. Im relaying what i heard the lady on sportsnet said they called Nieuendyks agent and he said nothing was official and hes talking to several teams. I never said it wouldnt happen but dont accuse me of lying again u punk kid.

  17. WeStSiDe says:

His agent was on Sportsnet saying he has not signed a deal, but a number of teams still interested. Asking price is believed to be 1 year 3.5

  18. Enigma says:

the only thing Nieuwendyk signed was my jersey, he’s still a free agent, and dallas is reportedly one of the front runners.

  19. Enigma says:

why hasn’t anyone on this site reported that already…it happened hours ago.

  20. WeStSiDe says:

New Jersey better get him signed. They have their defence, and goaltending looked after, now look after your forwards.

  21. orlandomac says:

    I completely disagree with you…

Newie wasn’t a good fit, and would have made our team even older than it is….

I have no animosity towards him and hope he will do well wherever he goes…

I think the Stars would be a good place for him…

Antropov has bulked up again this off season and could be on his way to an 80 PT season with Nolan on his wing, and you guys are trying to push him on the wing or even worse off to 3rd Line Center.

Fortunately for the Leafs Quinn is no longer GM or else we might have had to live with that.

Its time to bring some youth in to the equation, and put some heat on the veterans and their positions on the team….

To win the Cup you have to have some Elite talent, some Young Talent , good defence, and a great goalie….

In my estimation, the Leafs only lack in the defensive department, and the youth department although they have it in their system….

True stud defenceman are a rarity in this league…. so I believe you got to breed one from one of your own….

Pierre Hedin, Brendan Bell, Carlo Coliacovo, Maxim Kondrietiev (SP?), Jay Harrison, and last but not least Ian White…

These are all to me excellent prospects and at least 2 should be given a role on the team this year.

I also agree that either a trade or a signing should be made, for one defenceman.

Of those young kids I think a pure defensive defenceman can come from Brendan Bell, Harrison, and Maxim….

Hedin will be a puck carrying D man, as too will Coliacovo, White should be given a role almost exclusive to the Power Play….

If White gets that shot the Leafs Power Play will be near the top of the table. They have always lacked a good shooter who has accuracy…. now they have one in White, although he’ll probably see another year in the minors and the WJC for Team Canada.

    So please no more Dinosaurs….

  22. orlandomac says:

Bob McKenzie from TSN also said reports of signing were wrong and that the Stars were the front runners, although I won’t be surprised if he stays with New Jersey, it would make sense to both parties…

  23. daredevil says:

Another Cup? Maybe. But only if Nieuwendyk stays healthy. His gimpy knee is still a big concern.
