$ No Way Sergei $

Sergei Fedorov expects to sign with a new agent by today. Fedorov, in the last year of his contract, is off to Sunrise, Fla., this weekend to make his sixth All-Star appearance.

I want him to be a wing but not for $12 million.

“My mom and dad will be there; I’m pretty happy about that,” Fedorov said.

When Fedorov returns, his new agent and general manager Ken Holland will attempt to reach an agreement before Fedorov reaches unrestricted free agency July 1. Fedorov, 33, is seeking $12 million annually. . . .

WHAT I SAY: I want him to be a wing, but for $12 million i dont know

Yeah, truer words have never been spoken. $12 mil for a player in the NHL is going to be a CBA nightmare. It’s this kind of lunacy that is going to cause a work-stoppage in ’04. He is worth what a top-end guy should be making, but for anyone to be making more than $10 mil in a season is just ridiculous.

    12 million???

If I were to play one season in the NHL getting 12 million, I’d take the check and say “Good Bye”.

But I’m sure Fedorov doesn’t care about money, something else we aren’t aware of probably.

I think if you sign for much money money than your previous season, it would put a whole lot of pressure on you, if you re-signed with your team to somewhere close to your previous salary, not as much pressure is on you, and you’ll exceed.

Just look how much pressure Holik is under right now with his 9.6 million dollar contract…

  3. Tradedude says:

ya i know, keith tkachuk $11 mil, kariya $11 mil, Jagr $11 mil, Bure $10 mil and injured.

    Am i missing someone?

  4. absolutehockey96 says:

yeh kovalev who in an interview said he wants 9 mil cause he needs to support his family. damn what happened to for the love of the game if i would play for the lowest contract they could give.

  5. mikster says:

    Simple, he won’t get that.

On;y way he will get that is if the Rangers dump Leetch and Malakhov and sing him!!!!

Right….I think he’ll stay with the Wings, for $10 a season though.

  6. stevemcconnell2003 says:

what really is the difference between 10 and 12 mil? more fuel for his private jet? give me a break.

  7. BWbullies says:

It’s the point. He wants to be the highest paid player in the league.

  8. Rushing says:

……..Nicklas Lidstrom at $10.5 million. I guess that’s why his agent’s going after the $11 mill.

And actually, Jagr is making $11,483,333 million.

  9. caniacpack04 says:

What a sad day in the NHL. At least that’s what it’ll be when all of these prima-donnas get their astronomical paychecks. When was the last time you saw a high-end player say he plays for the love of the game? You’ll never hear it, and if you do, it is most likely complete BS.

  10. Rushing says:

……he won’t be the highest paid player on the team then. He perhaps thinks he deserves to be.

That’s perhaps the problem in his eyes. With Lidstrom making $10.5 mill already……..Hmmmmm, just maybe Sergei is thinking, “I’m better than Lidstrom!

  11. Aetherial says:

He may be thinking that, but he would be wrong.

I think Lidstrom is more valuable at this stage of their careers.

  12. Aetherial says:

The Leafs are going to get Fedorov!!

I have heard that they are trading Pat Quinn to Detroit for the rights to Fedorov. Then they are going to trade Kovalev to NYR for Bure

(after they get Kovalev of course. I hear Aki Berg and Blaine Stoughton For Kovalev and a second rounder).

Then they will reunite the Bure – Mogilny – Fedorov line!

Imagine those 3 actually played on the same line for the Russian Junior team. They were unbelievable.

Now they will be unbeleafable 🙂

    You are a retard….

  14. sportside24 says:

You don’t have to point out the obvious…………

  15. amok says:

Damn he must have a big family. Must be at least… 800 people?

  16. amok says:

This can be a pretty humourless site sometimes.

  17. burky says:

$12 million! I know that number will probably come down but come on, Sergei’s best days are behind him and anyone willing to spend that much money on him has to be crazy. I don’t think he’s serious though, nobody’s that greedy. If Sergei leaves Detroit I think it will be for reasons other than money, he said earlier this year that he could score 100 points if he didn’t have to play such a 2-way game, is this a hint that Sergei wants to go somewhere where he can score, make 12 million and have no pressure to play defense? New York here comes Sergei

  18. Rushing says:

Yet………..Federov will sit there and tell you, “I’m first(on the team) in points, in goals, games played, 2nd, in assists, 3rd in minutes played, etc…….Lidstrom is first in Assists and Minutes played and +/-. I think what Federov has done would out rank Lidstrom.

Now, I’m not saying who is better than the other here, what I’m saying is I would rather have a NUMBER one scorer better than NUMBER one +/- and minutes played player.

  19. sportside24 says:

Why would he want to play in detroit when after maybe this year their glory years will be behind them.. Yzerman may retire they’ll have i think its 8 UFA this summer its an old team now.. He should go to a team that has a good shot at going for the cup.. But nobody will pay him 12, maybe 9 or 10 if he’s lucky…. I’m guessing he will only sign in Detroit if he gets an outragous amount of money like 12 million a year otherwise he’s good as gone.. Detroit needs to rebuild.. Which ever teams have money and a shot at the stanley cup will pick him up in the summer … Most likely the leafs he’ll sign for less money if they sign both him and kovalev.. Which may happen since Toronto says they have about 10 million to add to there payroll which is at around 52 million, they could easily sign both if they get rid of a few players.. Thats my guess of what may happen..

  20. Kraftster says:

I heard the actual interview with kovalev, and the statement about his family got kind of skewed. Don’t consider him that heartless and not in it for the love of the game

  21. NYIchooch75 says:

Do you think he’ll get 12 million with the work stoppage coming? I can’t see him getting that much. Everyone is saying that there will be a salary cap of some sort once the new CBA is in place. That’s a hell of a hit to take on the cap. I really don’t think he’ll get it.

  22. Kraftster says:

  23. NYIchooch75 says:

    No doubt.

  24. NYIchooch75 says:

    yeah, huh?

  25. Sands says:

Federov worth 12 mill? yeah that’s sounds about right! are you kidding me? No it’s ok, as long as it’s not the Rangers right?

  26. JStatic87 says:

Detroit does not need to rebuild. We have lots of young talent, which is a great complement to the geezers we have on out team. Larionov will retire, Robitaille will not be back, there is 2 slots for good youngsters like Avery and Jiri Hudler in the next couple of years. Know what you’re talking about before you post anything.

  27. guinsfan4life says:

Get used to it-He is a leaf fan.

  28. guinsfan4life says:

I am very interested to see how the Wings deal with this.

It has been insinuated by some of the fans of higher market teams that a cap and/or revenue sharing in the next CBA would not be fair to their standing in the league. I have read analogies that “…if corporation A has 900 mill…and team B has 300mil…should corp. A be forced to share their money with corp. A”…

Very interested to see how the Wings deal with this. We know they have outrageous attendance figures. THey have a very, very deep team.

But now they have Federov who wants 12 mil. , Robitaille who is making around 5mil. per year, Yzerman’s future is in Jeopardy–Shananan is making 7-8 mil..

If the owners are all united towards lowering salaries, then they ALL should let Federov sign for considerably less than what he wants.

However, we all know that won’t happen because the owners are not united in the sport of hockey.

  29. caniacpack04 says:

Are you kidding? I’d rather have the best defensemen in the league any day of the week and twice on Sundays than have a Fedorov-type on my team. Maybe it’s just my preference, but defense wins Stanley Cups. You can score 6 goals a game, but if you give up 7, then what’s the point of having a top-flight scorer?

  30. -Swizz- says:

    have you heard of sarcasm?

  31. guinsfan4life says:

YOu know sands I am one of the people who persecute the rangers because they sign players to outrageous contracts. I realize it ain’t all them, but I suppose it is just easier because it is the RANGERS, after all.

So my bad, it shouldn’t be okay and I don’t agree with it at all.

    Flush hockey down the toilet.

  32. Aetherial says:

    Thank you Swizz.

I just want to see how ridiculous I can get and still have people take me seriously.

    It is unbeleafable!

Some people have no sense of humor. Co-indidentally they are the ones who contribute nothing useful either.

  33. Rushing says:

But DEFENSE is a team playing ordeal. You can take just a few HIGH scorers and make up for most of your points easier than taking a few defensmen to make up your entire team of defense. It also takes a good goalie as well. If Cujo don’t hold up his end, what good is Lindstrom going to do ya for your defense?

  34. aaron says:

Ok, I’m looking at that article, and where the hell did the freep pull that figure from? Their ass? They simply state it, but they don’t back it up with anything. They simply say that’s what he’s seeking.

I personally can’t believe that’s true. The Wings can’t afford to give Fedorov 12 million dollar a season, and he is not worth that much money anyway. I thought 10 million dollars was a little overboard. Maybe he’s just thinking that in two years, when the CBA comes, his salary’s going to plummet to half that at best. Padding his pockets before the Apocolypse. I’m seeing that from a lot of places.

  35. absolutehockey96 says:

come on he wants 9 mil and teams are going bankrupt=something is wrong here
