Nolan Sweepstakes?

Who is going to be intreasted in Nolan? His agent claims he is going to be ready to make a comback soon.

I would have to say he would be a good pick up for a team right now if he didn’t come with a high price tag. I would think Calgary, Ottawa, Philadelphia, San Jose, and New York Rangers would be good fits for him. An incentive base salary would probley work with him.

He can’t ask for that much for the rest of the season because it is more then half done, he is comming off a long break and injury and i doubt teams will be giving him 2-3 year contracts

I don’t know if it is worth it for Ottawa to get him…i would say only if he comes cheap or they cant make another deal to add to the team although teams won’t lose players to get him so i’m sure all the top teams will inquire about what he is asking

  2. Neely4Life says:

Ottawa, this guy has a lot of hockey left in him, and if u sign him for 2 years, and a club option for a 3rd, he will sign, he wont be lookin for too big of a contract, just a 3 year, long term deal. He would also love to stick it to the leafs! And we all know he wants to play for a cup. The dump Havlat next season!

  3. NHLSlayer says:

Owen Nolan was quite content to stay out of hockey, and has already PUBLICALLY indicated that he will only play NHL hockey again for one team, so that “Sweepstakes” s short lived. He will ONLY play for San Jose, and has already agreed to a deal ‘in principle’ that will pay him substantially less than he would have made had he opened the door for a bidding war. Owen Nolan is the newest UNOFFICIAL member of the San Jose Sharks.

  4. Neely4Life says:

    where did he say this?

  5. Mimo says:

This guy has a lot of injuries left in him too…

  6. SensfanVone says:

    He didn’t

  7. Gretzkin says:

They say he hasn’t been cleared to play quite yet, but he just needs to stregthen his quads, and he’s good to go.

J.P Barry is hoping to sign him “conditionally” to a team, so he can work out with the Team and gain clearance to return after the Olympic break.

    The 3 Rumors:

Ottawa. Sticking it to Toronto would be a good thing, and a great incentive. Is he necessary there? He woudln’t be bad, but I’d say it would be the longest shot of the 3.

Calgary. Guaranteed Playoff spot, he’d be a great fit, but my thoughts would be…

San Jose. Nolan LOVES it there. They’ve aqcuired Joe Thornton, and have been improving since the day he arrived.

They are only 7 points out of a playoff spot, but I think they’ve got a good chance of making it, with or without Nolan to make it.

Logically, the Sharks have the best bet of getting him back, but if he wants to go to a guaranteed contender, I’d say the Flames would be the next best choice for him.

It’ll be nice to see him back on the ice though, wherever he ends up (San Jose)

  8. wingerxxx says:

As deep at wing at Ottawa is, I can’t imagine them taking a chance on Nolan. They do need a gritty scorer, but I don’t think he’s the answer. I like San Jose for him, personally.

  9. Neely4Life says:

    didnt think so.

  10. thatleafsguy says:

I think Calgary, San Jose, Ottawa and Ney York have the inside track……either way enjoy him hes a pain in the ass to all organizations he joins. sure wish we still had mccauley, boyes and that first rounder back, not one of Quinn’s best trades….but then again it was JFJ that chose to pick the scab of contract squables with Nolan’s agent….Nolan likes the green, hes not a team guy in my eyes.

  11. wingerxxx says:

I can’t imagine Sather taking a gamble on Nolan. I don’t even see how he would fit in. The team already has Jagr, Prucha and Jason Ward all playing pretty well on the right side. That doesn’t leave much room for Nolan. Plus…guys like this are the epitome of everything the Rangers used do wrong. New York has more pressing needs than this guy. Calgary and San Jose look ok for him…but we’ll see. I wouldn’t touch him personally. Typically, when a power forward misses a lot of time like Nolan has, it isn’t good. Hopefully he’ll have a better time of it than Bill Guerin has had in Dallas.

  12. WeedIan says:

Who cares where he goes he SUCKS now, he hasn’t been a good player in a long time.

He won’t be a Good player for any team really…

  13. afanofthelakings says:

It will be san Jose for sure …

if this club want to make playoffs they need him

    imagine Marleau-Thornton-Nolan on the PP

    (almost good) 😉

  14. Realistic says:

OwNo can stick it up his a$$…what a waste that guy was as a Leaf. Bitter, angry, jaded…and that was before he tried to get the Leafs to honour his contract after his BS injury (BS in that he wasn’t hurt playing hockey like he says….why else would he wait so long to get it fixed)

  15. cementhead says:

I agree entirely. The xfactor is, however, that he may create a bidding war. Each competing team would be willing to pay another 100,000 – and at what point will they drop out before they realise they’ve gone too far?

  16. dcz28 says:

Some teams might drive up the bid for him but i don’t think Muckler will stay in the bidding for him long if the price goes up…just look at the Weight pitch the Blues wanted Vermette, Volchenkov and their 1st rounder and he stuck to his offer of a 1st rounder and no players and why shouldn’t Muckler stick to his guns the team is doing good overall on the season and he is in a position of strenght…he doesn’t seem like the type of gm to overpay for players and he looks for players that are the right fit and need for the team not just available although Bondra was not what they needed at the last trade deadline but i think everyone expected him to atleast score a bit more then he did

  17. jersey says:

Man the only team he would look good on is the hungry sharks of the west after he left san jose he has had a impossible time of scoring and playing for a winning team. when he plays with san jose he will change the fortune of him and the sharks so imagine Marleau Nolan, Hannan, and both Thorton playing in the stanley cup becuase you got finess players and gritty and extremely fast players playing for san jose well go sharks and Nolan hope your back

  18. AltersEgo2 says:

Stick it to who? Nolan couldn’t lick his lips without an injury.

  19. neilios says:

The Canucks are gonna make a strong pitch for him he would be a ok 3rd liner and a good PP player for the 2nd unit. That way the Canucks can trade Cooke away for some back up help for Auldy like Kolzig and Witt.Iam pretty sure most teams can use a player like Cooke one of thee best spark plugs in the NHL,and can get a player like Witt and Kolgiz for him to just throw a player or 2 in the deal. You guys say that Nolan wants to play for a contender I dont think he would wanna go play for the Sharks who have no chance at the playoffs and the Canucks have a better team then the Flames,so I say his best bet for a Cup would be to sign with the Canucks.

  20. wec69 says:

why not philly? they could use some help on the wing even for third line or second pp unit. if he comes cheap enough i say take a gamble. any thoughts???

  21. sensin0506 says:

the positive of Nolan for whoever gets him is that he doesn’t cost you anything but a bit of money.

In response to your post, I don’t think Nolan has any bargaining power to ask for a deal longer than the rest of this season.

  22. Doctor says:

yeah shut up man, that is pure propaganda. i guarantee you he doesn’t end up on the sharks

  23. Doctor says:

hmm, good question, i haven’t thought of it.

ok a power forward to replace primeau in the long stretch and the playoffs is one thing, but you have to question which nolan is going to show up. i personally don’t trust the guy and can’t see hitch***** bringing him in

  24. Flyaz says:

I’m not doubting what your saying but I would like to here where you got your info from, otherwise I could say he has gone publically saying he will only play for the Flyers for a bag of peanuts and the chance to give Lindros his latest concussion.

  25. Flyaz says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing that happen, and it would make sense, as the Flyers wouldn’t mind more right wing help. I only like this deal IF he either signs for the rest of the season, OR he signs for the rest of this season and next season for less then 2 mill.

  26. neilios says:

Flyers have to many forwards but I guess they can use him since the Flyers players bones are made of glass.Flyers dont need anymore players they have 3 solid lines if they can stay healthy so I think Nolan would wanna try get on a team that would play him on the 1st 3 lines not a 4th line checker like he would be on the Flyers. He would be a awsome fit with the Canucks maybe get on the 1st line with Nassy and Bert with Bert playing C,and then the Canucks can trade Cooke for a D and back up goalie.Does everyone think that Nolan would be a good fit with the Canucks????

  27. rookieleafs says:

JFJ has already said that Nolan will not play in the NHL until things are resolved with the leafs. If I am not mistaken, in the trade contract somewhere it said that if he returns to SJ then they would have to give them something back. Don’t expect Nolan to go somewhere just like that.

  28. Neely4Life says:

but he will sign where he gets the longest term deal.
