Odd-man out in Wings’ moves

Red Wings will need to trim one more player.

Jordin Tootoo appears to be the most susceptible.

The Red Wings had no luck moving Tootoo over the summer. Nashville, his former club, was among the teams they contacted.

If they can’t deal Tootoo for a draft pick or prospect this week, he might be waived. If he is waived and claimed, his entire $1.9 million salary cap hit (for this season and next season) would come off the books. If he clears and is assigned to Grand Rapids, the Red Wings would get only $925,000 in cap relief under the new collective bargaining agreement that makes it more difficult to bury veterans in the minors.

Waiving right wing Mikael Samuelsson is not viable option because the club would receive only $100,000 in cap relief if he went unclaimed. That’s because he was 35 when he signed his two-year deal on July 1, 2012.

Unrelated, but the habs are getting pretty beat up right now. Prust out, Patches out, Emelin out, Parros out (less of an impact, but still). That’s a hit to all areas of the team. Prust is a spark plug, MaxP puts up points, Emelin is a solid blue liner and all of them add toughmess. They’re really going to need Price to keep up his fantastic play or I could see them slipping a bit over the next few weeks.

well it test our depth that’s for sure when you lose as many forwards in our top 9 as we have it’ll be tough i think price will keep up his play ,we’ll get to see how blunden and holland do as call ups ,bournival gets a chance now too as a regualr because briere is concussed and out as well, emelin, parros, murray are all skating and should be back soon so it’ll help that depth and the top 9 and it’ll help to have murray and emelin back on the blue line as well, pacioretty will be back quick he’s a fast healer so i expect him back quickly…the injury that hurts out of all the recnt injuries in prust the guy is tough as nail and very versatile.

Agreed. Prust really changed the habs for the better. He ignites everyone around him and is a really solid agitator. Good mix of skill and grit for the bottom 6.

Also Lafleur, I was wondering where you’re standing on Bergevin and Therrien these days? I know you’ve been a big supporter in the past. I see them both getting a lot of hate on the Habs board on Hfboards.

I think Therrien makes questionable decisions, and underplays the kids. Against Toronto, how the EGG line wasn’t out in the last minute is beyond me. He coached a pretty impressive record last year, but I find some of his decisions really questionable. He also really overplays desharnais IMO.

I was a little surprised with the Bergevin hate. He hasn’t done anything earth shattering, but the habs are definitely tougher. The Desharnais contract was bad, as was signing Briere, but overall I don’t think he’s done a bad job. None of his mistakes are irreparable.
