OILERS AND SENS AGREE TO DEAL!!! Ask Heatley to waive NTC

Reported by TSN

“Sources say Dany Heatley has been asked to waive his no-trade clause to go to Edmonton in exchange for Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner and Ladislav Smid.

If Heatley agrees to waive, it would appear the Sens and Oilers will have a deal, pending the official trade call with NHL central registry, but that is generally a formality.

Heatley informed the Senators in early June that despite having five-years remaining on a six-year contract extension that he recently signed that he wished to be moved. The contract calls for Heatley to make $7.5 million per season against the cap.”

I said last week Sens and Oil could make a similiar deal, and some of you doubted me, feeling the Oil wouldn’t be giving up enough. Well, turns out Heatley didn’t have much market value after all.

  1. TheDonkey says:

Get a potential 40 or 50 goal scorer and unload Penner.  Awesome deal!!!!

  2. pezzz123 says:

Aouch. It's far from the Cogliano, Gilbert, top 10 pick everyone was talking about.

Instead it's Cogliano, Overpaid Underachiever and Young underachiever.

  3. JannettyTheRocker says:

Hell yeah!!! The Oilers finally get the superstar we needed to climb to the next level. Heatley on a line with Ales Hemsky equals magic. Look for both players to have huge seasons. Can't wait to see what the Oilers do tomorrow once free agency opens. I'm gonna be buying myself a Dany Heatly Oiler's jersey asap.

GO OILERS GO!!! 2010 Stanley Cup Champions!!!

  4. Leafmonkey says:

If Edmonton gets rid of Penner in this they win the trade. Im glad the leafs didn't make a big trade as it seems east canadian teams are losing them(this one isnt that bad because cogliano is sick)

  5. mojo19 says:

Hahaha, if Heatley goes for that, on top of Montreal acquiring Gomez…. I don't need Burke to do much of anything to really enjoy this offseason, haha.

  6. TheLeafNation91 says:

NOW…This is a trade that is great for both sides. Heatley will help the young guns in Edmonton, and might spark an offensive team that could look to finally explode!

Ottawa, they get younger and add depth to the forward lines, and the defence. They can finally say they have more then the big three with the addition of Cogliano and Penner on the second!

    Nice by Murray and Tambellini

  7. Hyceman says:

WOW,   And I was making fun of MTL for acquiring Gomez and his Huge Contract!!
Now we are stuck in Ottawa with Penner and its contract in exchange of Heatley and his selfish attitude….

I really Hope Alfy and Spezza will help him relaunch his career. This is a sad day for Eastern Canada (Gomez,Penner) but a great one for the Western side . (JBo and Dan)

As for the Oilers, Well Good luck guys!!

  8. TheLeafNation91 says:

This is why Toronto is officially one of the best ran teams in the NHL!!! No more bonehead mistakes! Just look at the draft for the Leafs the last two years! A+ grade this year by Mark Siedel, and a great draft in 2008!

Come on Burke…Suck the life out of teams for Kaberle

  9. pezzz123 says:

HEATLEY JUST SAID NO TO THE OILERS. HE'S STAYING IN OTTAWA FOR NOW.

  10. JannettyTheRocker says:

Where did you see/read this? Link??? I smell B.S.

  11. JannettyTheRocker says:

Yeah well, I call your BS. Just because I don't speak French, doesn't mean I don't know how to use a "French-to-English translator". The article you posted has nothing about Heatley turning down the Oilers, it's simply a review of the potential Sen's/Oiler's trade. Nice try bro.

  12. pezzz123 says:

Well your translator must not work well, because it's pretty clear.

    Using Reverso :

Heatley does not want to pass in Oilers
The aggressor Dany Heatley complicates more and more the life of the chief executive officer of the Senators of Ottawa Bryan Murray.
After our station(resort) sister TSN had brought back(reported) that the Senators of Ottawa had concluded a principal agreement with Oilers of Edmonton, RDS learnt(taught) that the aggressor had refused to raise his clause of non-exchange, what prevents its transfer in the albertaine capital.

The translation is bad, but still clear.

  13. albertateams says:

doing nothing does not make you one of the best run teams in the nhl. Yes it is better than making some of these trades so far.

We will see what the leafs do the rest of the offseason before we can see if they are or not.

  14. pezzz123 says:

now confirmed by TSN….sorry for the BS 😉

  15. JannettyTheRocker says:

I apologize bro, looks like TSN just reported that Dany Heatley just turned down the deal to the Oilers. Sorry for doubting you, guess I got my hopes up for nothing.

  16. TheLeafNation91 says:

    He rejected it!

  17. TheLeafNation91 says:

    He rejected it!

  18. albertateams says:

    Big day in Alberta.

The calgary boy goes to edmonton. The edmonton boy to Calgary

  19. TheLeafNation91 says:

Burke has not made any errors so far, neither did Fletcher! Even the Finger signing isn't completely horrible! We can survive that!

  20. pezzz123 says:

no problem buddy, I would've done the same.

  21. lafleur10 says:

good because he won't do anything that will help you guys anyway! no matter who you get

  22. lafleur10 says:

put the crack pipe down! the laffs will never be one of the best run clubs in the nhl!i wouldn't grade them A= they have a long way to go to reach that grade! there are barely over a d minus still! and eventhough he gave up mcdonagh we are still miles ahead of you in terms of prospect depth and hockey future rankings!

  23. habs_fan_81 says:

HAHAHAHA what a prick he rejected it just to screw ottawa with that 4 million bonus

  24. TheLeafNation91 says:

Haha, still cant get over the Scott Gomez disaster?

And oh yeah, Bob Gainey's downfall continues withe the C- this draft…Muhahaha

  25. 24_cups_and_counting says:

With Wednesday being Canada day, I guess Jannetty's gonna have to wait until Thursday before he can return the confetti and helium tank!

  26. Sands says:

REJECTED! More to come, but they have until July 1st at midnight to trade him. NOT WHAT WE THOUGHT!

24 more hours on the Heatley watch

  27. JannettyTheRocker says:

Haha, nice one. Nah, it's not over yet. Free Agency begins tomorrow, so there's a ton of possibilities out there. We'll see tomorrow night how the Oilers do.

  28. nordiques100 says:

    this guy is a punk.

first he whines about the coach for no real reason, being a real jackarse and becoming a total me first player.

    then he demands a trade

then he demands a trade……..but only to a few teams….but the goal is get out of ottawa.

then a trade is found between two willing parties……he gets out of ottawa and plays for a coach who actually likes him………and he turns it down.

this guy is unbelievable. this is actually a godsend for the oilers. they dont need this guy on their team.

the oilers, what has been missing since pronger, peca, torres, smith, smyth and others who have left is grit, character, heart, desire, toughness, leadership and pride in wearing the oiler colours.

heatley doesnt at all represent any of those traits. he is a selfish primadonna who is all about him.

honestly, i swear this guy has learned NOTHING from that accident that killed dan snyder. he was given a 2nd chance. snyder, who barely got a first chance, since he wasnt a sure fire star like heatley, unfortunately never got a chance to continue livign out his dream.

heatley survived…….and wasnt even punished severely. luck was on his side and you would think there would be an epiphany or something happening where he figures it all out. he hasnt, and it looks liek he never will.

he is your poster child of a greedy, selfish athlete that all us commoners resent.

this guy makes me sick. he spits on the legacy of dan snyder acting like a spoiled *****.

  29. TheLeafNation91 says:

Who picked up the 8 mil pylon

  30. hull says:

Your comments disgust me. Unless you are privileged to the entire inside story you're no better for assaulting a person at such a personal level. The attacks you made are below childish.

  31. reinjosh says:

    i wouldnt speak to soon
apparently Heatley doesnt want to play their
    and who would
the three best players to come out of Edmonton (or surrounding areas) have all been signed long term with your rivals (and a much better team, i might add) the Calgary Flames.

With Jay Bouwmeester, Dion Phaneuf and Jarome Iginla all signed long term they could form the Edmonton threesome and sow fear and deadly scoring and hitting capabiltity on your team.
Watch out Edmonton, your 3 best hometown players are gonna kick your ass and help the Flames take the conference, while you are left sitting outside the playoffs looking in another year.
    GO FLAMES GO!!!

  32. reinjosh says:

and by doing nothing bur picking picks at the draft, and not trading anyone
the leafs are already eons better than you
honestly Gainey caved to pressure and he is going to pay dearly for it
He picked a player at the draft solely because he was french Canadian (not denying he can be good, but i think this was a dumb pick to satisfy the restless crowd), and then traded for an overpaid center that doesnt fit your needs at all. Great job Gainey. make it easier for the leafs to beat you next season

  33. reinjosh says:

    So just to clarify
Heatley has not denied the request to drop his no trade clause but neither has he okayed it
he is apparently going to be making a decision tomorrow
so oilers fans may still have hope at getting a sweet deal here

  34. lafleur10 says:

we will still finish ahead of you in the standings guaranteed!

  35. lafleur10 says:

and he's still better than any current player you have on your team!

  36. lafleur10 says:

check the hockey futures ratings! they have us in the top 5 and the make me laffs in the bottom ! like i said you have a long way to go to pass us!our draft was better than yours ! enjoy 1st r.d bust nazem cereda(or should i say ) kadri!

  37. lafleur10 says:

    ALSO ENJOY BRAYDEN SCHENN…………..IN L.A.!!

  38. nordiques100 says:

how is that a personal attack? how is this childish? the guy is one of the luckiest people alive. but he sure doesnt act like it. he acts like he has gotten short changed, ripped off and betrayed by the sens.

probably 9/10 people would have perished in such an accident. he didnt. in fact, he almost walked away. thank goodness for that. any normal human being would have probably found a new lease on life as a result.

heatley was afforded a great opportunity. i completely agreed he needed to get out of atlanta. the reminder was too harsh.

but he was afforded a great chance to rebuild his life, rejuvenate his career. ottawa has provided him with that chance and the security financially for him and his family that really was a split second away from being taken from him.

but i see no learning from this guy's behavior. to be so greedy about all this, demanding a trade, demanding only certain teams, ripping into the coach without giving him the 2nd chance he has been given, he has learned nothing from the tragedy years ago.

he is lucky he is even playing hockey, walking in fact, never mind being in the NHL and a multi millionaire.

but all we have seen of late is a brooding sulk who is practically whining his way out of town.

for what reason? because he doesnt like 2nd powerplay duty?

i've seen people go well before their time. they werent afforded the 2nd chance heatley has been given. they did not want to leave us, but were taken away suddenly.

heatley on the other hand was not. he was one of the lucky ones. it angers me that people i know would have loved that opportunity and not have whined and complained if they were playing a game for a living making millions.

so maybe you should get the facts first on my reasoning before calling me disgusting and childish.

  39. TheLeafNation91 says:

I don't care…Nazem Kadri is just as good!

  40. TheLeafNation91 says:

But the last few drafts have been poor, not to mention you shipped off your best prospect to NYR

  41. TheLeafNation91 says:

Haha…Blake, Ponikarovsky comined make less money then him, and they both had more points then Gomez. And they were on one of the worst teams in the league. Gomez had one decent year, and hasn't done well in the rest of them.

  42. pezzz123 says:

You just lost your best prospect, I highly doubt you're still #2. And anyways, HF is pure BS.

  43. cam7777 says:

exactly nords, and you hit the nail most on the head right at the end their.  this is a *****ing game for godsake!  stop *****ing about it heatley, and play the game you're supposed to love.

i would be extatic to have any connection at all with an nhl franchise.  i'd be thrilled to be a trainer, or an equipment manager, or a coffee boy for the management staff.  i'd take anything.

heatley has been given the role of assistant captain, and told to go out their and play the game.  but apparently he only wants to play the game his way (ie. no back-checking, no fore-checking, just recieving passes and scoring).  the guy is just look pathetic right now.

i wouldn't want him on the leafs if Murray gave him to us free of charge…

  44. Leafmonkey says:

We will see i dont think he will be a bust at all and its not like the leafs were the only ones interested in taking himif we moved down he would have been gone. and the leafs would be higher than they are in the HF rankings if they didn't do such a good job last year getting luke schenn because he is not considered a prospect anymore.

and the laffs is a bad nickname not very creative use the loafs its much better.

  45. TheLeafNation91 says:

We'll finish 15th, while the Habs finish 9th???

  46. hull says:

I see nothing in your reply that event hints at a fact. However there is a ton of speculation put together with a ridiculous rant about how think Heatley should be running his life based on your own life experiences and desires. I at no point every insinuated I had any facts, you however seem to believe you know everything that has transpired between Heatley and Ottawa. Guess what, there is a 100% chance that you don't. So before you call out a person on some random message board and say they have learned nothing from taking one of there best friend’s lives maybe you should get up from your keyboard and take a walk outside. Some perspective on life might help you if you can't separate a game from respecting a person’s dignity.
