It seems that the Oilers may not be done dealing

Here’s how it looks from here: the Oilers are clearing $3.5 million off their roster which opens up room to add another position player in a trade–maybe a $4.5 million defenceman like Philadelphia Flyer Braydon Coburn, somebody they were after at the draft in June.

Maybe they go after a more aggressive forward like Philly’s Wayne Simmonds. In that case, they have Ales Hemsky to dangle in any trade because he’s an unrestricted free-agent in July.

“I don’t think the Oilers are done (trading),” said Smid’s agent Steve Kotlowitz.

Brossoit and Horak will be going to Oklahoma City so don’t count against their cap. The do however count against the 50-max limit of pro contracts. The Oilers have 498–two out in Smid and Roy, three in with Brossoit, Horak and Bryzgalov.

“Ladi was surprised for sure. He was just going down in the elevator to go out to dinner in that great city of Philadelphia when he got the news,” said Kotlowitz. “When’s the last time the Oilers made a trade with the Flames. They don’t make many do they?”
