Oilers and Rangers talking trade?

Moving Smid leaves a big hole on Edmonton’s blueline.

“Ladi Smid is a great individual, a hard player, a heart and soul guy and we thank him for his commitment to our team,” Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins told the Edmonton Journal.

The Oilers have struggled significantly defensively this season, and now that the team has address its goaltending issue, temporarily, MacTavish must improve the club’s defense, at both ends of the rink.

It’s believed the Oilers have had serious discussions with several teams, including the New York Rangers, about right wing Ales Hemsky.

Hemsky is in the final year of his contract and can become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He’s a tradable asset and many believe he’ll be dealt by the trade deadline, at the very latest.
