Oilers Will Be Active!

The Edmonton Sun is reporting that Oilers GM, Kevin Lowe will 100% pull of a few trades before or at the deadline. He is not saying any names but he has said the Oil are in the market for a goaltender, good second line scoring, and a veteran who can help the fourth line.

It is reported that the Oilers are interested in Curtis Joseph of the Phoenix Coyotes and Martin

Biron of the Buffalo Sabres. As for the fourth line I heard that if a Cujo deal happens, Edmonton will try to acquire Tyson Nash. Dallas Drake, Jim Dowd, and Tyler Wright have also been reported to be sought after by Edmonton.

Any comments on who could go where?

Wow, Lowe is looking to improve his teams at the trade deadline.

Not much gets by him, he’s good.

Joseph to Edmonton for some drfat picks.

  2. Gretzkin says:

I don’t have much faith in Curtis Joseph.

I wouldn’t trust him to dog sit.

If I had him over for dinner, I’d make sure that I’d have to ask my girlfriend to puree whatever was on the menu, for fear of greedy Mr. CuJo choking.

But, he would be an improvement on what the Oil have between the pipes at this stage.

I think I’d prefer to get Biron, over Joseph.

  3. Stuv_Dogg says:

Lowe will be in tough to get Joseph or any other decent goalie as there are a few teams looking. It would be interesting if there was a bidding war for CuJo’s services between Edmonton and Vancouver, since they both need a top flight goalie and they both play out of the west and because of the rivalry.

On the other hand, I don’t see either of those teams giving up a whole lot for CuJo, who is a UFA at the end of the season and could walk for a good 2 – 3 year deal after a decent 2005-06.

  4. ThomasHawks says:

Raycroft and Samsonov to Edmonton for 1st round draft pick, Markanen, and a young talent. This is not a rumor.

  5. Hollywood666 says:

    No, it’s not a rumour. It’s a complete fabrication.

  6. gohabs73 says:

Wasn’t there romours earlier this season that Zednik would join the Oilers? I guess he could be a decent 2nd or 3rd liner and help on the PP.

Habs could look for Staios or newly acquired Spacek in exchange for a package including Zednik.

  7. Habfanforever says:

wait I know, according to neilios this is how it should go down:

Horcoff-Smyth-Pronger and Staios plus Markannen for Bertuzzi and Matt Cooke.

  8. gg_idiot says:

Edmonton might have to throw in a couple draft picks to even it out, plus pick up the rest of Pronger’s contract.

  10. Turnbull says:

Yeah right…hahaha,..Like the oilers are gonna trade their best defenceman, smyth and horcoff for cooke and a guy that will NEVER be as good as he was before “the incident”.

  11. popkumdan says:

Cujo and Doan for Marrkenen, Torres and a DP is something i wouldn’t mind…

Oilers need someone who can consistantly put pucks in the net from the second line. Torres, Stoll and Dvorak are great players, but all are streaky and inconsistant.

Nash,Drake, Dowd and Wright won’t help the scoring that much. Neither will a rental. Oh well..i know Lowe will make good moves for us.

  12. popkumdan says:

Canucks fans have a better chance of obtaining rectal cancer than seeing this trade happen.

  13. dave1979 says:

maybe they can make some moves to prevent them from getting beat by 2 goals again at the hands of the dreaded St.Louis Blues BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  14. FlamingHomer says:

A playoff run must be pretty important since the Enema-ton Coilers seem to pulling out all the stops. They could easily still miss the playoffs no matter what they do and weaken their prospect pool at the same time. I guess they feel they have to try to keep up with the Flames. I can’t see Cujo feeling motivated to help them out in any way unless he needs to put on a show before the next contract.

Anyhow, it will be fun watching San Jose grab the last playoff spot from Enema-ton.

  15. CedrickRozon says:

its obvious Nash, Drake, Dowd and Wright wouldn’t help scoring, but then, that’s not really the role of the 4th line, is it?

  16. RangerSteve says:

The Oilers are going to be buyers at the deadline. In year’s past we would have been hearing names such as Ryan Smyth, Ethan Moreau and Chris Pronger being thrown around to possible ‘cup contenders’. Obviously Lowe needs to go get a goaltender. I woudl take CuJo back in a heartbeat for 2 reasons. 1-The guy has been in EDM before and knows what it takes to be some what of a success in the playoffs, and 2-he’ll come a hell of a lot cheaper than a Marty Biron will. He’s very salary cap friendly to boot.

  17. oiler1fan says:

If Bertuzzi came to Edmonton everybody would jump him… and Vancouver is not looking for a goalie. Auld has been great for the. Vancouver needs a few defenceman (which Edmonton has)

  18. oiler1fan says:

I think these 3 trades might happen:

    1. To Edmonton: Joseph

To Phoniex: Winchester and 6th rounder

    2. To St.Louis: 6th rounder (maybe a bit higher draft pick)

    To: Edmonton: Drake

Last, Dvorak and Tarnstrom for a good second line right winger.

  19. wingerxxx says:

    That’s pretty cute. Nope.

  20. wingerxxx says:

Unless it goes down very, very soon….yes, it is a rumor.

  21. wingerxxx says:

St. Louis is going to get a higher pick than that for Drake. If a 6th is all Edmonton will offer, they will not get him.

  22. dave1979 says:

hey homer i was wondering about a comment u made in a former post what did u mean by “the canucks are becoming the A-holes of the league??”

  23. oiler1fan says:

Or we could offer a prospect that will never make it.

  24. cementhead says:

    What are you talking about??

Let’s say, as unlikely as it is, you could trade Cujo for Marrkenen (only cause Cujo is FA in summer). That would mean you are trading Doan for Torres????? Do you ever watch hockey? Do you know who Doan is? Although he is not the best man in the NHL he is the best man in Phoenix – not to mention their captain and the last player from the Winnipeg Jets? Do you really think they would give him up for Torres???

…and as for Nash, Drake, Dowd, and Wright… Lowe does not want them to score (or at least wouldn’t expect them to), they are character players for the fourth line – and pretty decent ones too!

  25. NinjasOnly says:

I hope to God you’re not a Vancouver fan making comments like that.

Right now the biggest buzz should be about the Oilers aquiring JS Giguere. His name is hardly being thrown around but i know for a fact that K.Lowe has been closest of all to signing him nad one of the buffalo tenders.

  28. oiler1fan says:

Why would Anahiem trade their starting goalie to a team they are trailing in the playoff race? That trade could blow up in their face.

  29. goOilersgo0506 says:

I’d like to see Jokinen and Luongo come to the Oilers for Peca, Markkanen, and Pronger !

  30. goOilersgo0506 says:

    I don’t like Drake, why Drake ?

  31. goOilersgo0506 says:

    Old dogs must die !

    No to Cugo

  32. goOilersgo0506 says:

who do you root for? the Crosby Penguins ?
