Osgood Out of Detroit

In just over 24 hours, if they haven’t already, the Detroit Red Wings will say good-bye to netminder Chris Osgood. At 2:00 ET (correct me if I’m wrong) all teams in the NHL will have to submit their list of proteted players. There is a max of two goalies, and the Wings will keep Hasek and Legace. You can bet that GM Ken Holland is trying his darndest to trade Ozzie before the deadline. If he doesn’t, it is almost a certainty that Ozzie will be picked up in the draft on Friday. But where will Ozzie go? There are still some teams that need a good starting goalie, but don’t necessarily have the right people to trade for him. Regardless, the bottom line is this. Holland NEEDS to trade Osgood, or Detroit will have lost one of their greatest goalies for nothing in return.

Osgood a Castaway?

The most likely destination for displaced starting goaltender Chris Osgood looks to be the New York Islanders.

With Dipietro being so young, and Garth Snow being Garth Snow, the Isles would be doing themselves a favor by picking up a relatively young, solid goaltender.

In return, the Isles could give the Wings a few different things. Defenseman Kenny Jonsson is a possibility. Maybe if the Wings throw in Jesse Wallin or Max Kuznetsov, Roman Hamrlik could be had. Most likely though, Osgood will go to the Island for a draft pick(probably 2nd Round) and a prospect.
