Ottawa Senators’ Ales Hemsky non-committal

Ales Hemsky is fine with living in hotels for the next month and, he hopes, weeks beyond that.

In fact, right now he doesn’t even want to think about where he’ll finally unpack his bags and stay awhile.

Eligible to test the free agent waters in July, Hemsky is being watched closely by Senators management as it determines if he’d be a good fit with the team going forward.

The 30-year old winger is likely trying to figure out the same – not that he wants to discuss the matter at the moment.

“It’s not even worth it to talk about it right now,” Hemsky said Monday morning. “I just focus for the game and try to help this team make the playoffs. What I will do after, I’ll see.”

The final year of Hemsky’s current contract has him making $5.5 million (with a cap hit of $2.5 million). Milan Michalek ($6 million), Bobby Ryan ($5.562 million) and Jason Spezza ($5 million) are the only Senators forwards pulling in more this season.

Is Hemsky worth that kind of cash? The final weeks of the season, and possibly the playoffs, should give a good indication.
