Ottawa Senators not alone in pursuit of Del Zotto

The NHL trade freeze has been lifted and it is back to business as usual for Senators GM Bryan Murray and his other 29 counterparts.

While Murray has been working the phones heavily for the last month, he’ll step up his efforts to try to find a top six forward and puck-moving defenceman with the holiday ban officially over at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

The Senators have spoken to the Rangers several times in the last six weeks about defenceman Michael Del Zotto but aren’t alone in their pursuit. The Leafs and Shark have held talks and a report in the New York Post says Colorado has shown interest as well.

Sources say if the Senators are to close a deal for the 23-year-old Del Zotto _ who many believe is on the verge of being moved with GM Glen Sather desperate to make a trade _ the asking price has to change.

It’s believed the Rangers have been demanding blueliner Marc Methot in return for Delo Zotto.
