5.75 million for sakic. and give that its own topic Sakic > Mcgratton and hedlund.

  2. OILERS2006CHAMPS says:

I must agree, give the topic to Sakic. That’s the bigger news.

  3. 369rumors says:

ya i no.. neither of them will play higher than 4th line. sakic is one of the top 20 players ever.

  4. muckies says:

Well I wonder who the Leafs and Habs are going to sign to have their faces pounded in by McGratton?

Domi did a good job for the Leafs last year of getting his nose in the way of McGarttons fist – I guess he’ll do.

There are 2 years of pain coming to the East division. Better start making icepacks, McGratton will be hurting people until 2008.

    Oh Yeahhhhh.

  5. muckies says:

McGartton could kcik Sakics ass, no problem.

  6. wingerxxx says:

I don’t think there was ever any doubt about Sakic. He has officially reached the “Yzerman” point in his career, where if he is going to be playing, it’ll be with Colorado or nowhere else. Just as with Yzerman, either it is Detroit, or retire. The Avs now need to figure out a way to get Blake signed. All they really need is some stability in goal, and they will be even tougher than last year.

  7. skidragoon says:

Is jannety hiding in here? no… damn where did that poon face go or is he still pretending to be oilerscup2006 or w/e that account is

  8. GoalJudge says:

    I don’t agree.

Sakic has been a Nordique/AV for his entire career. But “Joe Canada” would move on for the right deal. No one was going to give him more than that I don’t believe, so he stayed put.

But a few things get me. 1) I think he and the Avs are shaky on the idea that his success this year, 87 points, will continue. Hence the one year deal.

    2) Barring that uncertainty he may look to sign somewhere else for more or another run at the cup with a stronger team. Hence the one year deal.

    3) He may lack confidence in the team now given its potential loss of top tier players like Blake (maybe), Forsberg last year, lack of confidence (in private) of Theodore. Hence a one year deal to move on if he wants.

Super Joe will not remain an AV unless they are competitive.

  9. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

ok sakic’s point total last year will beat mcgrattans in his career.

  10. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

Keep dreaming kid, one lucky punch to Domi’s face doesn’t really say much…..especially when that ape towers over a guy of Domi’s size. McGratton will be getting face punked until 2008.

  11. muckies says:

O.K., McGartton’s made $405 000, Sakic made $10 000 000, and McGartton could kick his ass, no problem.

  12. muckies says:

    O.K., if you say so.

I liked it better when you weren’t around for a while. Your an idiot, and you know nothing about hockey. Even pther Leaf fans use you as an example of how shamefull and stupid Leaf fans are.

When you were gone, Did you get over your obsession with *****s, mens asses and *****?

  13. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

sakic hasnt made 10 million for awhile. before lockout it was 7.7 or 8 or something then it was 6.6 now its 5.7. so get your facts straight. Sakic atleast can win games on the end of his stick.

  14. muckies says:

Not if McGratton knocks him out. Right?

If McGratton got into a fight with Sakic, he could knock him out, and then Sakic wouldn’t be in the game.

    So thats that.

I forgot ABOUT THE 24% ROLL BACK, SO YEAH IT IS THE SALARY YOU POSTED, BUT i WAS GOING OFF HIS 10 MILLION PER YEAR HE SIGNED BEFORE THE LOCKOUT.

  15. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

Do you need a tissue for all this drama? It sounds like you either need a hug or a shoulder to cry on, neither of which I will be providing for you. And trust me jr., I know more about hockey then you ever will, you’re so emo. Oh, and I’ve always been around, never left, even though I’m dealing with a serious illness in my family right now, but hey thanks for caring.

    Buh Bye.

  16. muckies says:

Good to see you come back, are a toal asshole the minute you hit your keyboard, and then go for the emotion strings with the sickness thing.

That’s to bad somebody is sick, but in the end, you should just stop being an asshole and people on this site might give you some credit.

If you just go around insulting people, nobody will ever respect you, no matter what is happening in your life.

If you know so much about hockey, driop it down. Don’t insult people, just stick to hockey talk.

  17. wingerxxx says:

I’m not buying it. After reading Sakic’s statement after signing his deal, it did not sound like the words of a man who was seriously contemplating leaving the Avalanche behind. I think his big chance to leave came when he signed the offer sheet from the Rangers all those years ago. And a lot has happened with his family since then. But of course a player of his age is going to sign a one year deal. He may not believe he has much hockey left in him. If he truly lacked confidence in the team, he would have went for free agency in the offseason, rather than spend another year with the Avs.

And I don’t see Sakic as the kind of player who is going to force a trade during the season. The difference between guys like Sakic and Yzerman, and players like Ray Bourque, who also put in lots of years of service with one team, is that Yzerman and Sakic have already won the Stanley Cup. Boston did Bourque a favor by trading him to a contender, to win the Cup. I just don’t see a real sense of urgency on Sakic’s part to play with another team. Even if the Avs fall from truly competitive status, if Sakic decides that he wants to move on to another contending team (and in the NHL, there are no sure things), I will have to see it to believe it.

  18. OILERS2006CHAMPS says:

Like I said, JannettyTheRocker is gone for 2 weeks. But he’ll be back in time for the start of free agency on July 1st.

  19. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

Rewind the tape back to the beginning of this thread, wheres the insult? Ya you imagined it, thats what I thought.

  20. Air33 says:

dont worry, he’ll get tuned by Peters all year and by Boogard.

    enought said.

  21. muckies says:

Peters and McGartton to me is the best heavy weight matchup in the league, and is a legend in the making, especially after the playoffs.

I only saw 2 of their fights this year, the Sens home opener that Mcgratton won, and the one in Buffalo that Peters won.

These guys need to fight each other to keep their jobs.

  22. muckies says:

    O.K. KID,

    sound familiar?

  23. GoalJudge says:

    Fair Assessment.

    But I reserve my doubts.

I think Joe will hang on as long as he can. Like Yzerman.

But remember he is fattening up his kitty for his retirement. And no player wil give up before they have too. I.E. Palffy will play again, maybe not NHL, but will play.

Anyways as retirement seriously looms, I don’t think that he will throw away multi-million dollar offers that outrank the Avs. I question Yzerman too. He will sign for around 2 mill. If a team thought he was worth 3 he would probably pass, but if some team though he was worth 4 or more, I bet he would take it.

Look at Hull. He went to Phoenix to play for Wayne. He took a deal. He retired, not because the money wasn’t there, but because he felt his time was up, and he couldn’t cope with the new game.

Sakic maybe a long time from that and may still seek that 4million + salary, even at 45 years old.

Roberts is an example, Brindamour too.

  24. SabresFan220 says:

Yeah Andrew Peters whipped McGratton’s ass a couple times this year. If Peters gets resigned it would more than likely be a 2 way deal that sees him mostly in Rochester and the Sabres would call him up and send him back as they need him.

I don’t see why the Sabres should waste a full time roster spot on a guy who doesn’t do anything but fight and hit people, traditional fighting is being phased out of the game slowly. Sure there will be scrums every now and then, but physical players who still contribute in other ways (like Mair and Gaustad) will be asked to handle the fist throwing. The players like Peters, Domi, and Matt Johnson who don’t contribute offensively or not often enough will be phased out of the NHL within 3 to 4 years. The smart teams will start cutting them out now and replacing them with players who can play physical and still score the odd goal, or at least contribute somewhere. I’d much rather see more Jiri Novotny than Andrew Peters or Taylor Pyatt. I see perhaps both players being let go by the Sabres, or at least reducing their roles and letting someone like Novotny play more.

  25. 19AVSFANFoLIFE19 says:

like i said it was more like 8 and even then he was worth it. Mcgratton wouldnt knock out sakic because he would be back in it thats the type of player ottawa lacks. Even then when was the last time someone got knocked out in a fight and didnt come back. If by some miracle mcgratton knocked out sakic he would be a dead man by probably any team in the nhl cause they all love and respect sakic for who he is and what he has done.

  26. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

How is saying kid an insult? Its obvious you aren’t hip to slang terms.

  27. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

Wrong and wrong Boogard can pump both of those 2 guys. McGrattan is the biggest meathead in the league I can’t believe he even has a job in the NHL that doesn’t involve him polishing Alfredsson’s or Heatley’s skates. Hes a pompus jerk that thinks the entire Senator fan world revolves around him because he can get into a hockey fight…….ooooh what a tough, inteligent guy……for proof see his and Emery’s appearance on OTR earlier this season…..enough said. McGrattan will be out of the league within the next 3 seasons, I guarantee it.

Peters, well, hes a self procalimed steroid user and abuser, so I guess you can stick him in the dumb as a door knob category. No talent what so ever, and a cheater to boot, what a winner. I guess being a goon in the NHL pays more than punching a punching bag at their local Gold’s gym. Amazing what some people get paid handsomely for these days.

Both Peters and McGrattan seem like the type of guys that would love to spend a couple hours blazing with Argo Ricky Williams aka pot head from the NFL’s Miami Dolphins……

  28. muckies says:

For 500 000, I want to see Big Brian do one think, grab Jason Pommeville and pummel his face to a bloody mush……and maybe punch Miller in the face aswell.

  29. muckies says:

Last player I saw get knocked out, and it pretty much ended his career was Deadmarsh when he fought Jovo and Jovo caught him with the second haymaker he threw and it was over.

    That was sick

I was just jokin’ around, I love Sakic, and Mcgratton isn’t that type of player, Ottawa doesn’t play that way, but if he couldn’t knock Sakic out, he’d be useless. All he can do is fight, he can barely keep up when he’s on the ice, but the players love him, and he’s a good teamate, the fans love him, it’s more of a feel good for the players and fans thing then a real hockey move.

He may end up getting thrown into a package deal with Havalt or Phillips at the draft, that’s why I think they gave him 2 years.

  30. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

Now thats showing your level of intelligence, smash a couple of guys for scoring a goal and stopping some pucks. Beat downs for playing “HOCKEY”, something McGrattan knows nothing about. Keep up the good work muckies.

  31. Aetherial says:

heh, I was thinking the same thing.

  32. Aetherial says:

… while the rest of the league starts to fade away from having or needing a goon on the ice.

Who was Carolina’s goon? Buffalo’s? Edmonton’s played VERY little, especially after the nasty hit from behind on Ladd in game 2.

McGratton scares me about as much as the Senators signing Rob Ray for their playoff run a couple years ago … ROFL!

  33. Aetherial says:

They will have to be tougher than last year. They didn’t look very tough against Anaheim.

  34. Aetherial says:

He probably will, and that is the problem with him.

I want to see him chase Domi around the ice in the first 2 minutes of a scoreless game again, making a total asz of himself 🙂

  35. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

But hey apparantley, as he stated on OTR, he raises the roof at Sens games in Ottawa and the only reason they are there is to see him punch someone…..I bet I could face punk this nugget if I ever saw him in a club.

McGrattan = Overhyped joke with ZERO hockey skills/APE.
