Ottawa Senators could trade defenceman

While Senators GM Bryan Murray and coach Paul MacLean brought in Mark Borowiecki from Binghamton to try to stabilize a struggling blueline, the club won’t be keeping eight defencemen around much longer.

If GM Bryan Murray wants to make a trade there are several in the market for defencemen. It is one area where the Senators could be dealing from a position of strength.

“There are about eight-to-10 teams looking for defencemen because they’re hard to come by. A lot of teams could use help in that area,” a league executive told the Sun Thursday.

Murray is willing to be patient. Borowiecki will stay here as long as he’s playing and contributing. He doesn’t require waivers to be sent back to Binghamton and his one-way contract kicks in next season.
