Ottawa Senators look to trade for top 6 forward
In the past, it has taken a second round pick and a prospect to get a deal done at the deadline. The options are limited if the Senators decide to go shopping. Here’s a look at a few of the names available on the trade front:
Matt Moulson, LW, BUF: The Senators do have legitimate interest in Moulson and there is the connection with GM Tim Murray. That doesn’t mean he can gift a player to do Bryan a favour. Two teams told the Sun they expect the asking price to be a No. 1 pick and a prospect.
Ryan Callahan, RW, NYR: He’d be an attractive option for any team because he’s a competitor. Murray, in his long history in the NHL, has never made a trade with New York GM Glen Sather. Callalhan has a cap hit of $4.825 million and the Rangers would like to try to sign him.
Ales Hemsky, RW, EDM: The Oilers have been trying to trade him since last summer. The Senators have always liked Hemsky but have never been thrilled about his $5 million cap hit. He has 7-17-24 points in 48 games. Edmonton GM Craig MacTavish is he always overvalues his players.
Drew Stafford, RW, BUF: He isn’t a rental but he is available with a cap hit of $4 million through next season. The Sabres have been trying to move him for awhile just to get the salary off the books. He’s not a bad player, he just makes too much money for what he does.
Tuomo Ruutu, RW, CAR: You have to wonder what kind of impact he can make. He has only 12 points in 43 games with the Hurricanes and has been available all season. The Blue Jackets may decide to bulk up with seven straight victories under their belts.
