Package Deal Frightening

The idea of Naslund and Forsberg teaming up together is a bit scary for a number of reasons.

Together, these guys will be a force.

Forsberg is Fragile, and could likely leave Naslund on his own, while watching games from the pressbox injured. Making the experience utterly forgettable for Markus.

Although, taking them both, with the knowledge that Fozzy will likely spend most of the season hurt, would still keep him off the market for 29 other teams, so it would be a safe bet. Considering as a package, they’ll go at about 50% of their individual value. Hence “Deal”.

I think if this deal happens. It will look exciting on paper more than it will on the ice.

Well, 3 different papers, the Star, Sun, and NY Daily News have reported that Naslund and Forsberg’s emissaries/agents want them to come and play in NY. It would be a much shorter flight home for the two in the offseason, and the big city and bright lights would attract these two superstars, plus the clubs bright young future is an incentive.

I’d love to see Foppa and Nazzy with either Jagr, Jessiman, Dawes, or Balej… that’d be nasty.

But who knows where these two will end up. I’m gonna stick my original pick, because I think reasoning, and if Scott Niedermayer comes, Vancouver will be the destination for these two. That team could be a juggernaut after all is said and done.

The last part of this article was just plain weird. The only way that they could play together is if they both agree to huge pay cuts. It’s just the only way it can happen. With the cap, and almost every team in the league has major needs. I don’t think the Rangers can do it, because they also have to address their defense. If I were Colorado, I would take one or the other, and make sure I get Adam Foote back in the fold. The last time the Avs brought a dream team in, it didn’t pan out too well. But with the new rules changes…who knows what will happen.

My money’s on it never happens. Naslund will likely resign in vancouver with a max contract. Forsberg will go to any team willing to take a chance on him. He went to play in Europe because the game there wasnt so rough and he still managed to get hurt. Its only a matter of time before a career ending injury comes his way.

  4. Tweek says:

I can almost guarantee that they wont play together, the only teams with cap room are smaller market teams who are on willing to reach to floor rather then the actual maximum cap number. I doubt either would take huge paycuts toplay together, I can see a small paycut but even then its almost impossible for those two to sign together on the same team due to todays marketplace.

    We’re getting them!! :D:D:D:D

First of all, one shorter flight to Sweden will not determine where these guys end up.

Secondly, Big cities and bright lights do not appeal to Swedes.

And C. The NY Rangers are in a bad way right now. With Jagr and @ 14 Pilons, I don’t see these guys wanting to go there, unless they make other deals first to make the team more appealing. By then, these 2 guys will have signed somewhere else.

Too many other young contenders to choose from with building blocks in place. The rumors are out there, but I don’t see it happening.

The overspending Rangers have made themselves a bit of a cursed Siberia. More (some) rebuilding is needed before anyone will want to play for that team.

The city is cool, but the team is a bit hexed.

I wouldn’t be suprised if it happened, but I don’t think so.

  7. Gretzkin says:

    That’s INSANE!!!

Keep Dreaming, the world needs more lunatics like you.

The Leafs are almost finished their moves. Nothing too flashy in their future regarding the UFAs.

The last part of my article was edited out. Discussing the off ice “affairs” of the 2 of them. And where the most fun would be had. But I guess I’m not allowed to be blatant. Fair enough.

  9. wingerxxx says:

lol I guess that makes sense then.

And the Flyers or Sens will still beat them in the playoffs, thanks to coach Quinn. But I like the optimism.

If it happens, it will be with Vancouver most likely. Anahiem has a small shot (but then where do you put Federov) and Columbus has a chance. It wouldn’t be the NYR, swedes are notoriously quite and not the biggest fans of big cities with big lights. Not to mention, from what I understand, Vancouver is similar to the hometown in many ways. Far more similar than the Big Apple. Throw in the fact that the ‘Nucks LOVE swedish players (Nazzy, Sedin, Sedin, Hedberg, Ohlund, Arvedson, Lindgren)…. watching the Swedish Olympic team is a lot like watching a Canucks game….

Can they make it work with Niedermeyer (or two Niedermeyers) coming as well? Depends what the two Swedes are asking for. Niedermeyer himself says he would consider signing with “a couple of teams” for a discounted price and Vancouver is considered almost a definite lock as one of those two.

There is a strong chance that Vancouver will be a juggernaut beyond compare come this next season. Let’s see if the new GM knows what he is doing…

  12. Gretzkin says:

I like what you are saying. Although you a obviously Vancouver biased.

I could see those 2 in Vancouver, as Naslund does like it there, and they’ve been on the verge for a while.

With Bertuzzi rumoured out of there, Naslund was likely to leave as well. But as the “package”, perhaps he’d stay.

I don’t think Naslund would want to really move and fit in to another team, as he’s always talked about just packing up and going home to Sweden. Same with Forsberg, I think.

Anahiem was my second thought as well. You must love Brian Burke. I’m not a huge Canucks fan, but I love Burke.

Fedorov could be the deterrent to this one, but maybe not. They will be at a discount together. The price you pay to sip champagne out of the cup.

Anaheim has a good short and long term future, by the looks of things.

Naslund/Forsberg & Neidermayer to Vancouver. Unlikely.

    That won’t happen.

  13. Scruffy05 says:

    Ack! You caught me!

Yes, I am a Vancouver fan, have been all my life (even in the damn crappy Rick Lee and Mike Keenen years…. I almost gave up on them though when Keenen traded away Linden…. Tears of joy when he returned though)

And yes, I think Burke is brilliant! First he lets it slip that he may grab Brule knowing full well that Vancouver has their eyes on it then says he will auction the pick and ask for our first born (rumor has it: Ohlund). I belive Burke is also after Scotty Niedermeyer and will use Robby as a bargaining chip. If Scott declines though, or asks too much money (Burke is notoriously on the cheap side as well) then watch Burke hold Rob ransom to the Canucks to “give us a better chance of signing Scott…. but only if the price is right.” See it unfolding much like the second round pick idea (Ohlund)… We better get a whole hell of a lot more than Niedermeyer for Ohlund though and I would much rather send Jovocop.

I’m not saying Burke is sour and trying to test his old protoge, but it could be a little of that. Moreover I think Burke sees a chance to make a contender and would rather do it with players he knows and likes.

Just to let EVERY one KNOW as soon as I could

GOOD BUY :Roberts & Niewendyk !!!

  15. desgros says:

Florida have gotten 2 Very good players & have sighed them to 2 year each contract @ $ 2.2+

  16. Gretzkin says:

I Like what you are saying. But if I were in Vancouver, I wouldn’t be doing much to help Beef Up the Mighty Ducks and Mr. Burke.

But yeah, just because you made the pick, doesn’t mean you can’t still shop it.

Although, sometimes they do keep stuff in the family.

    Example: Leafs-Calgary. Leafs-Chicago

(Although, Chicago is sort where the Leafs put the useless to pasture.)

  17. canadaboy25 says:

Due to financial reasons, the only logical team I could see making the Fozzy/Nazzy package a reality is Anaheim. Burke has history with Naslund and will be typical genius Burke and get the Swedish connection to come to the pond. Regarding Feds, there shouldn’t be much of a problem there. Federov played second fiddle almost his entire career when the Red Wings had him and Stevie Y., and look how that turned out. He can easily head the 2nd line with Sykora and Chistov, while Forsberg, Naslund, and Lupul make up the top line

  18. greatlife15 says:

Just for future reference, Sun is very satirical and isn’t exactly considered a newspaper but more of a tabloid. It be pretty insane of the combos you are talking about, but on the likeliness scale? Hey, New CBA, anything can happen.

Damn, i gotta start reading the NY Daily lol.

  19. guinsfan4life says:

I was told by a friend that a radio host here in pgh that is very knowledgeable about inside penguin scoop has said that Mario is pushing really hard to sign Forsberg.

  20. GretzNYR99 says:

Dellapina (NY Daily) is a good writer. He doesn’t write much rumor wise, unlike Brooks who makes these far-fetched ideas which are merely suggestions to Sather, or Garrioch who puts his head up his ass and tries to sound smart, and last but not least, Strachan who wouldn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.
