The Importance of a good Stay-At-Home Defenseman

It’s vital for a National Hockey League team to have a couple of good stay-at-home defenseman in their lineup.

A stay-at-home defenseman is a d-man who has a defense first attitude, will rarely join an offensive rush, and does not pinch in the offensive zone. These are the guys you don’t see scoring too many points, but can hold together a defensive unit and get a team to the playoffs.

Lindros Suffers Concussion

As he was skating closely along the boards with the puck, Lindros lost the possession a bit and reached forward to regain possession of the puck when Capitals defenseman Jason Doig purposely set himself up to knock Lindros out. Good job Mr. Doig, a very clean hit, but your sick thoughts of purpose and intention by setting yourself up knowing it was Big E, just proves to the NHL that you are a cheap shot artist.

However, Lindros did not gow down. He got back up quite quickly wanting to charge at Jason Doig. Next shift when both players meet again, Lindros charged Doig by dropping his gloves and fought with the defenseman, though no serious punches thrown. At the end of the period, Lindros showed a dazed expression and did not return in the 3rd period.

The severity of this is unknown, but either it was not too severe since Lindros fought Doig after the hit or Eric Lindros is just a bull.

Get well soon Eric.

p.s. Washington committed over 10 holding and hooking actions, almost none of the obvious ones were called. Yes, referees do suck. My view on the current Rangers status coming up shortly.

During the TEAM 990 post game show following the Habs/Leafs contest, it was suggested that Bob Gainey seems to have interest in Carolina forward Jeff O’Neil.

Without a doubt, he is looking to add a player of that style.

Some Trenchant Observations

Well, the Avs-Oilers game just ended (need you ask who won?). What did we learn?

1.) Outshooting a team does you no good if your shots are all from the perimeter.

Bobby Clarke's Solution to Hockey!

Believe it or not, Flyers general manager Bobby Clarke, master of the controversial sound bite and inane comments, actually had something intelligent to say recently.
