Well is young stud singular or plural? They could be a good partner if their 1st is in
Play plus a young player of significant quality etc.

    Not even Kulikov available? GTFO

A beat writers dreaming about getting Kessel for a first. It’s not like a real reported works for the Panthers anyway.

  4. blaze says:

If you move Kessel atleast move him out of the division. I would target Snow, this is a big year for the Islanders a big splash at the deadline makes sense now and for the future.

Phil Kessel(8.00M) to the New York Islanders for

    Michael Grabner(5.00M),(D)Griffin Reinhart,(LW)Michael Dal Colle

Snow gets a US recognized star to play with Tavares. Taking Grabner’s next season at 5M off the books lets him re-sign Boychuk and keep his young core intact.

Unlike Strome, Reinhart and Dal Colle havn’t made the team yet so Snow may be more comfortable moving them in a win now mode at the deadline.

Grabner would produce in talent void in Toronto and in turn would likely be flipped for a late first (salary retained?) at the 2016 deadline.

Or at the draft assuming Colorado is in the 4-10 range (most likely) make a move for another top 10 pick.

Phil Kessel(8.00M) and Jake Gardiner(4.00M) to Colorado for

    Ryan O’Reilly(6.00M), Nick Holden(1.800M) and a 1st(2015 4-10)

Toronto could realistically walk away from the draft having drafted (C)Dylan Strome 4th(TOR) and (LW)Lawson Crouse/(D) Ivan Provorov 9th(COL).

If the Leafs packaged Polak and Winnik could they get another late 1st?

I am looking at Tampa. They were apparently interested in Franson, they have 2 late 1sts, and could use some veteran depth for the playoffs.

    • doorman says:

That could be a very doable scenario and makes some sense for sure. As for Kessel and Phaneuf they are draft day type deals, unless a guy like snow gets desperate? But a short playoffs might make him just as willing in the summer.

      • TmLeafan says:

I like that idea. I would not be sad to see Polak go, now might be the time to move him he is totally replaceable in my opinion.

I know Robidas has had a rough year but think he has been a little unlucky with some injuries and coming back from the broken leg. I actually think that Robidas could bring more to the table for us next season than Polak.

If they are not interested in giving up young studs to acquire him then they are not interested in Kessel. We don’t have to trade him. Unless a team makes it worthwile Kessel will be staying put.

I read Howard Berger ( I know he’s a clown) and he suggested that we give Kessel to the Panthers for their 1st round draft pick and Brad Boyes. People actually listen to this guy, the Kessel bashing in the Toronto media is absurd and shameful.

I like the idea of the Panthers 1st as a starting point. Ekblad I don’t blame them for having off the table and maybe Barkov, but this is a hockey trade from Nonis point of view and that’s good. If Huberdeau, Gudbranson etyc are off the table then there is no trade to be made, IMO. However if teams like Fla & NYI get bounced early from a lack of scoring, topped with other interested parties Kessel becomes worth the Leafs moving now. I would rather keep him for a year or two and get a better then trade just because. Phaneuf is gone this summer IMO and we will get something decent for him. As long as both aren’t back this is a signal they are serious about the rebuild.

Completely agree. If they are not willing to include any of their “young studs” as everyone is reporting then how do they think they can get Kessel for their 1st and junk assets (at least for the rebuilding Leafs).

Honestly to make a push for the playoffs Florida needs to make a move that puts them over the edge. It doesn’t have to be Kessel but they should do something. Maybe expand the deal a bit:

        Kessel
        Winnik
        Polak (50% salary retained)

        For

        Huberdeau
        Gudbranson
        2015 1st
Conditional 2016 pick (maybe a 2nd that converts to a 1st based on Kessel’s production or 2015 success, although o would try for the pick outright without the condition, lol)

The deal gives Toronto 2 young assets to build around and a 2 really high picks. More than market value for Kessel but Florida not only gets Kessel but also replaces their right handed d-man with Polak and at half price he fits under their cap with Winnik as a depth piece for their run.

The deal is fair as Winnik’s value is anywhere from a 2nd to a 2nd+3rd and Polak at half price should fetch a 1st give or take. This deal would just come down to whether Florida is willing to move both Huberdeau AND Gudbranson.

i still think the best target would be bjugstad for us.. center, big body, plays a big game, perfect fit. Not a huge fan of huberdeau, hasnt done much to impress me
