Panthers looking to move Versteeg?

Six points out of the No. 8 spot heading into Sunday’s visit by the Montreal Canadiens, the goal for Florida now is to try to move a few contracts and see if the club can set the course for next year after the Panthers fell back.

With the exception of centre Jonathan Huberdeau, defenceman Erik Gudbranson, goalie Jakob Markstrom and centre Drew Shore, pretty much every player on the Florida roster is up for grabs as the Panthers try to shed some cash.

Sources say the top name being dangled is right winger Kris Versteeg, but if he gets moved it will take a big financial commitment. The 26-year-old has $4.4 million cap hit through the 2015-16 season and he has been hampered by injuries.

The Panthers were preparing to move centre Stephen Weiss before wrist surgery ended his season. The Bruins, Penguins and Canucks all want to add scoring at the deadline so they would have certainly shown interest on that front.

Might not be a good time for anybody on the Panthers’ roster to purchase any swampland in Florida.
