Pavel Kubina said list of acceptable teams could come as soon as Saturday

The agent for Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Pavel Kubina said his client as soon as Saturday could provide a list of teams to which he would accept a trade. Lightning GM Steve Yzerman requested the list from Kubina on Thursday. Kubina, who has a limited no-trade clause, has seven days to comply or Tampa Bay can trade him anywhere.

“Of course,” agent Petr Svoboda said when asked if Kubina would provide the list. “Kuby is always a gentleman, so I don’t think it’s going to take seven days. … We’re going to go through some stuff (Saturday) and we’re going to come to some conclusions.”

Kubina, 34, is being held off the ice, even for practices, until a deal can be completed.

Svoboda said the situation is difficult for Kubina, who was drafted by Tampa Bay in the seventh round in 1996 and won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2004. Kubina is so tied to the Tampa Bay area, he kept his Pinellas County home and telephone number even during stints with the Maple Leafs and Thrashers.

“It is difficult because that’s where was his first chance to play in the NHL and he had really good success there and won the Cup there and everything else,” Svoboda said. “That’s the reason he went back two years ago, so it’s not easy.”
