Peguins Habs, Lets make a deal…

Penguins have had enough of Fleury and rumor has him going to Colorado in exchange for Defense J.M. Liles and second round pick.

Pittsburgh are very interested in Halak or Huet. Recchi and a 3rd round pick which can become a conditional 2nd round pick “from Colorado” if Huet signs a contract extension; For Huet and a 5th round pick
First Line: for “2007-2008” season Recchi – Koivu – Higgins
Third Line Ryder – Chipchura- Latendresse

    ur source?

  2. LaFlanelle says:

We HAD Recchi and got rid of him because he was a problem in the dressing room (i.e., selfish). Add to that the fact that he's going absolutely nowhere this year. Why would anyone want this guy?

Your post makes no sense at all! (Why is the third line even in the equation?)

  3. AntropovGoodIToldUSo says:

    His asshole.

  4. rojoke says:

I never heard any questions regarding Recchi from any team he's every played with.  Of the many wingers that Koivu's played with, and that's a pretty long list, Recchi has probably been the one with the most chemistry, as evidenced by the fact that he and Koivu were in the top ten in league scoring before Koivu sustained his first major knee injury.  After that, the team kinda fell apart, and they dealt a bunch of their vets as part of rebuilding project, which is probably still happening.

As for getting him now, he isn't the same player he was five years ago, and if he's of no use to the Pens, I don't see a use for him in Montreal.  I agree it wouldn't be a trade with much of an improvement for the team.

  5. leafy says:

Assuming this rumor is legit, there's NO WAY I'd make this trade if I'm Gainey.

Recchi is way, way past his prime….at age 39, he has, what, 2 goals?  Huet, meanwhile, is a bona fide no. 1 goalie with a save percentage of over 0.920 the past 3 seasons.

I don't believe Gainey would fall for a con job like this.  He's not Ferguson.  Personally, I don't believe this rumor.

  6. mike11 says:

your joking right? ya Gainey might do this if he wants to be called "a mistake" by his prez too.  And with Rechi, that just makes us even more of "a bunch of 4th liners".  this is ridicoulus, please do not ever post again.! thank you

  7. jpmac says:

Why would we trade the leading vote getter so far in the all star game for an aging washed up player who can't produce.
Where did you get this lame info from anyway?

  8. Maximus says:

pfft….stupid rumour….Shero is not letting Fleury go…..too much potential and he is only 22

  9. czarrichter says:

Aside from what everyone else already said, why would the Penguins want ANOTHER offensive defenseman?  I have liked Shero's moves so far… and I don't think he'd disappoint me by making such a herendous trade.  Liles is a great player, don't get me wrong.  And a 2nd round draft pick could land the Pens a real solid player, but Liles is the furthest thing from the type of defenseman the Pens need right now.  Plus, the Pens would have to go out and trade for a legit no. 1 goalie (which I understand your are saying make a trade for Huet then), but what if that doesn't go through?  Teams then know you are desperate for a goalie and can pull more from you.

Plus, Fleury is 22 years old, and as a Pens fan I haven't had enough of him.  Maybe if MT would give him more than two starts in a row things could work out a little better for him.
  10. broc says:

    Recchi for Huet?

Hey mom! My ass just opened up and this is what came out!

  11. hackzilla says:

Fleury is getting worse then before trade him. lol, 22 is isn't that young anymore nhl is alot of younger players then that red light.

  12. habsrock99 says:

I love Recchi, don't get me wrong, but getting him would be an incredibly stupid move that would do more harm then good this year. I don't mind Huet but with the way he is playing and especially with the way Price is playing, he is much more valuable than a 39 year old shadow and a 3rd round pick.

Huet's gone at the deadline (ONLY if Carbo and Gainey are 100% confident in Price going into the stretch drive) or he'll walk July 1st. He shouldn't be re-signed for next year, let's reserve that spot for a goalie that will legitimately help Price long-term (IE. a Joseph, Belfour, Thibault, Osgood, etc.).

Come the deadline, legit Stanley Cup Contenders such as San Jose or Pittsburgh will trade for another #1 goalie and will trade Picks or Prospects for them. Now saying that, I doubt the Pens will actually deal a 1st rounder for a stretch drive goalie but a team that needs to win now such as San Jose just might trade a 1st rounder and a prospect (Hopefully better then Gorges) for a guy like Huet, just to ensure that their goaltending is better then a team they potentially could face in the Cup Finals.

Am I predicting a trade with San Jose and Montreal? No. I'm just pointing out that teams will pay picks and prospects just to ensure that they are potentially better then a team they may or may not even play.

  13. morrissey says:

Assuming Montreal wants to deal Huet which is far from being confirmed, there are not too many teams out there in the market for an older, relatively expensive, soon to be UFA, starting goalie… you need a team with cap room that is a contender for the cup this year but also willing to part with NHL caliber talent as Montreal will not nor do they need prospects or picks in return. Pittsburgh may well fit the bill, but the price will be more than Recchi and I doubt they are prepared to deal say Armstrong to fix their recent goalie trouble.

  14. senators_choke says:

Huet for Recchi? It's not happening dude. Where is this coming from?

  15. leafssuck67 says:

whats all this recchi bashing? he's a future hall of famer and 500+ goal 1000+ pts player!!

with that being said, ya its true hes 39 and probably wont make 30 goals, hoping for 20 and it would be a waste

however, recchi is the kind of player that will be dealt at the deadline because he provides playoff experience and veteran leadership (i.e. look what he did for carolina) it makes NO sense for pittsburgh to trade him now

  16. Williams1505 says:

    word

  17. avsjoendryan says:

your source? Why would colorado want another young goalie when they got budaj whos going to be a future star plus giving up liles would be too much for a guy like fleury when theres no need for him. Maybe if colorado deals theo, assuming they have the cap space. i find this rumor pretty far fetched.

Recchi wouldnt help the habs out single handly and if i was a habs fan i wouldnt want that trade to go down.

A Recchi- Koivu- Higgins line wouldnt scare many people.

  18. FarFromFreedom says:

why is your 3rd line in this article?

  19. Habs_to_the_top says:

This is one of the worst trade rumors i have ever heard.  do you think gainey stupid just like this post?

  20. wayne2 says:

What the h..l are you talking about.Recchi was one of numerous victims of the Montreal media.Once they get on your case they dont leave you untill your traded.Recchi his loved by every teammate he ever played with and his a gentlemen.By the way those are his last quotes to the Montreal media after being traded:'' you fu..ing media must be happy now''.
Even lots of Quebec born players dont even want to play for Montreal because of the media.I'm a quebecer and the media and fanatism around this team is what turned me against them.

  21. NHLSlayer says:

    Absolutely silly…

First of all, the Pens aren't that far down on Fleury, and this would make NO sense for Pittsburgh.  The ONLY team of the three that this would improve is Montreal, and that's only addition by subtraction.

From Pittsburgh's view, NEITHER Halak NOR Huet is a STEP UP from Fleury.  Why move a former 1st overall pick to take a step backwards?  And to lose Recchi in the deal?  Not likely.

From Colorado's POV?  Goaltending is a key, but NOT at the expense of JM Liles, their ONLY legitimate threat from the back.

This will not be happening, I can hardly believe it made it here…

  22. DeathCab says:

…never heard of a guy called Huet have you?

Seriously, can you be this blind?  Goalies take MUCH longer to develop than any other position,  which isn't exactly a secrete.  So as far as I'm concerned, M.A.F. isn't trade-able until he's at least 25.

  23. Milohabs says:

This is one of the dumbest things I've read on this site in a long time. the only way gainey would make a move like ths is if it's trade deadline time, Price is looking stronger than Huet and there is 0% chance of Huet resigning with montreal in the summer. Evan at this point, Gainey would get more value for Huet. I used to love Recchi, but he really needs to hang em' up now.

  24. guihome says:

Yep right I heard that one too.

Do you know Gainey will trade chipchura, kovalev, and price for a bunble of stick and used skates from the mid 80's + Alain Nasredine.

There is just as much chance the trade Recchi vs Huet works that the trade I just propose.

    Sorry for double post

  26. jarcpitre says:

I agree totally with you, Recchi is probably in his last year. I have him in my pool and he has done squat. Also he has been a healthy scratch in Pitts. This trade dosen't make sense, but I agree Ferguson will do it.

  27. leafy says:

That's too bad about your hockey pool.  I imagine a lot of people got burned on Recchi.  But I noticed watching last year's playoffs, he was only a mere shadow of his former self.  Looks like age has finally caught up with him.

  28. habsoverserver says:

he can't score at even strength.

  29. habsoverserver says:

an undersized forward who can't score at even strength?

BUDDY YOU GOT TO BE THE MOST RETARDED PERSON TO EVEN THINK OF THIS GARBAGE #1 WHY WOULD WE GIVE ANYTHING FOR RECCHI #2PITTSBURGH TOLD HIM TO CALL TEAMS HIMSELF TO MAKE A TRADE #3MEANING NO ONE WANTS HIM SO MOST PROBABLY HE'LL BE PUT ON WAIVERS OR AT BEST TRADED TO A TEAM FOR A 3RD OR 4TH ROUND DRAFT PICK…..AND PLS PLS DO US ALL A FAVOUR AND DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT WITH HOCKEY TRADE RUMOURS

  33. wingsfan13 says:

the pittsburgh colorado rumor kinda makes sense since neither team wants that player anymore it seems.  however, why would pittsburgh want another offensive defensman when their problem is that they have nobody that wants to play defense.

I could understand Pittsburghs interests in Halak to replace fluery, but nobody wants recchi.  if anything i think the following would happen….

    Ryan Whitney
    Fleury
    2nd round pick
    for
    komisarek
    halak
    4th round pick

  34. TheStryker says:

You must be out of your mind. Why would the Habs want M.A. Fleury when they have Price. There is no way Montreal trades away Komisarek and if it does # 71  # 11 or #87 would be comming the other way

  35. sakawaka says:

the person who left this rumour is on crack
huet for recchi and a 3rd round pick come on this article is a complete waste of time

  36. bishop7979x says:

    Yeah this,

    1.  Makes no sense as the Habs wouldnt need Fluery if they have Price,

    2.  its a horrible trade!  Fluery (won 40games , 3rd in the nhl last season, has amazing potential and is only 22, he'll be a star one day, he's too young to GIVE AWAY right now) for Halak, Halak!  Who has a .500 win record at the AHL and has only won 11 games in the NHL.  IF Shero had hit the crack pipe and decides to give up on Fluery at such a young age, he's not going to trade him for a player who will be an average goalie at best, will most likely be a career backup, if he makes it back to the NHL.
Whitney, a player with 107pts in 164gms, a big player with a great break out pass who was 6th in defensement scoring last season, outscoring Rafalski, Mccabe, Kaberle, Timmonen, Zubov and Chara, who has just signed a cap friendly 4 year 4 mil a year extention for Komisarek, a good strong defensmen, but certainly not worth as much a Whitney . . . On and on top of it, the pens will give up a second round pick for a 4th . . .

who ever said that the pens dont want fluery, he's 22, he was a beast last season.  He's had a bad 1/4 of a season, but so has most of this team.  Shero has said he isnt trading fluery and that he is young and the team will stick with him while the team as a whole grows into a contender.  The core of the pens are all under 25, this teams best players, unlike the habs, are still going through growing pains and have years to develope into a contender, they arent going to toss two players who will be part of that core for the next 5 or 6 years minumum away in a sad attempt to win next year, thats what the leafs are for.

go play in traffic, any head injuries might wake up some slumbering brain cells.

  37. bishop7979x says:

Fluery is not going anywhere any time soon.  Shero has said many times, that the team is sticking with MAF as their starter, he is 22 years old, he just came off a season where he was 3rd in wins in the NHL with 40.  Just because he has had a bad start to the season doesnt mean that they will dump him for whatever team is willing to throw the pens a short term bone.

This is a team who has the strongest collection of players under the age of 26.  Crosby, malkin, staal, whitney, letang, role players in armstrong and talbot, a strong prospect in esposito and yes marc-andre fluery.  this team will get better every year as these players grow, this team isnt like many other teams that were labled as top teams when the season started as this team can afford to be patient as all these players come into their own (well crosby and malkin already have but . . .) and shero finds the right mix of veterans to play with them.  there isnt a "win before sundin or modano,  koivu or sakic retires and we loose our best player" feeling with the pens, their best players should still be here, funded by a new arena, 5, 6 maybe 7 years from now.

there is no reason to go tearing the who thing down, trade young guys for quick fixes, as I joked before, they arent the leafs.  This team will fail with fluery, if need be for anouther year or two, before they even consider trading him because of his age and because last season we all saw how good he could be.  And goalies dont hit their prime till at least 27 typically, thats 5 years from now for fluery.

Will the pens consider picking up a vet next year in place of saborune?  Of course, someone who can work with fluery like T-bo did last season.  An Osgood or Legace would be perfect for this team, someone who can play 30 or so games and can almost be a goalie coach when Fleury has a bad stretch.  But will they trade him?  No.

  38. BruMagnus says:

You're a moron and know little about hockey.

Fleury is the YOUNGEST starting goaltender in the NHL. He won't even hit the start of his prime for 5 more years, yet he was tied for 3rd in wins last year (and coulda gone for the lead if he had played those extra 10-12 games) which is the 2nd best in Penguins history.

To trade Fleury to the Habs, they'd have to give up Halak/Huet (or Price ha) plus Plekanec and maybe Markov.

  39. BruMagnus says:

    Agreed.
    People are retarded.

  40. BruMagnus says:

    Amen to that.

    The guy's ignorant.

  41. Maximus says:

I do not know why but when ignorant people make stupid comments it really irrates me…..look at all the top goalies….most are in the thirties……Fleury will be a star……I would not want to be the GM that trades a future all star for a #3 d-man and replace fluery with a mid range journeyman goalie……I can't comprehend the ignorance…..as far as Recchi is concerned that part does have teeth.

  42. NHLSlayer says:

Tell me that you don't SERIOUSLY think that Fleury and Ryan Whitney (a potential future All-Star Selection) are worth less than Komisarek and Halak, who couldn't even make the team?  Is that seriously why you'd expect Pittsburgh to throw in a higher pick?

This whole thread has gone to crap, these rumours are getting so retarded, I had to check to make sure I wasn't on the Maple Leafs board.

  43. Aceman says:

Recchi? It's like deja vu. He's not the answer. He's too old.

If any player from Pittsburgh that the Habs should grab, it should be Maxim Talbot….

I wouldn't deal Huet as they need Huet and Price in Montreal….
