The Calgary Flames have pitched an offer to impending unrestricted free agent defenseman Brad Stuart.
Stuart, 27, split the 2006-07 season with Boston and Calgary, playing in 75 games and registering seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points. The Flames acquired the seven-year veteran, with Wayne Primeau, on Feb. 10 from the Bruins for Andrew Ference and Chuck Kobasew.
While financial terms of the offer are unknown, the deal is believed to be a multi-year agreement.
The Blackhawks would like to keep center Michal Handzus and have offered him a new contract, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
Michal Handzus, who played in just eight games after being sidelined for tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1st.
“We’re trying to sign him,” Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon told the Sun-Times. “We talked to his agent a couple of days ago and offered him a deal, and we’re waiting to hear back from him. I think they’re going to test the [free-agent] waters, probably. But we’d like to sign him before July 1.”
Handzus, 30, made $2.128 million last season and it’s believed he’s asking for as much as $4 million, per season, on a new multi-year contract.
