Penguins pursuing Yanic Perreault

Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette has said that the Pens are actively pursuing center Yanic Perreault for his faceoff and defensive abilities as a third-line center.

Also, the Penguins were interested in the services of Danny Markov and Jaroslav Spacek, but settled for D-man Mark Eaton as “the price was right”.

A return to Pittsburgh for Mark Recchi seems to be “a long shot”.

GM Ray Shero may be finished with free agency, but he has “left open the possibililty of making significant trades when other teams are forced to shed payroll or find themselves overloaded at a particular position.” Shero believes that even if he doesn’t sign free agents, other clubs doing so (such as the NJ Devils) will create trade possibilities.

Lastly, if the price is right, the Penguins would like to acquire Samsonov to play with Crosby or Malkin.
