2 yrs AT 3 million or 2 yrs WORTH 3 million? Wasn't he asking 3-4 million? If they only offered 1.5/season, Markov will be on the next flight to Russia.

  2. Hockey_Insider says:

Yeah, but this website is not a reliable source, remeber when that other guy posted the article about how the Rangers had signed Peca, and his source was nhl line. Were's eca now? Columbus.

  3. Flyers_Fan_In_LA says:

this is the kind of pickup the Pens need. Markov is a hard hitting, mean d-man who can at this point likely still keep the puck out of the goal.

THis would make the pens better
  4. TMLfan2005 says:

the article from that website states that it is a two-year deal that will pay him CLOSE to $3 million PER SEASON.

Not 3 million for the full contract.

The Pens sure could use him.  And I'm sure they have been in contact with him.  But 2 years and 3 mil?  If I am Markov, I would laugh deliriously about that, and hang up the phone.  There are a lot of other teams who could use him on their blueline, who would pony up more money than that.

As someone posted, this rumor is unsubstantiated by any credible source. The rumor actually started from a local Pittsburgh blog “buzz on the burgh” several weeks ago, and although some rumors started on “Buzz” were insightful and with obvious connections not available to most, just as many (if not more) have turned out to be the opposite.

Since then, NHLline picked it up, and I have also been told Eklund has used it, but not a single one of these have ever had a source or given some kind of credibility to the rumor. This is part of the reason I had omitted submitting it, because there has been no solid basis to it thus far.

There is also another rumor around the blogs (and this one actually I traced as far back as a major media news outlet) that Forsberg wanted to play for the Penguins and would take a discount and move to the wing…again, unsubstantiated thus far.

I hope they get him. He could make them my new cup favorite. He is definatly an awesome physical force out there.

  8. TMLfan2005 says:

It actually started from a local pittsburgh radio station. Then probably someone told someone who told nhlline or buzz on burgh or whatever.

  9. flamingsenator says:

he went through a physical for the rangers and everything…but negotioations fell through

spector had him pegged for the rangers too

  10. the_next_agent says:

i think its 3million a year because that is what Markov was asking as the minimum he would accept.   If the Pens get Markov, watch out, they could win the East.  Every team could use Markov, he is a warrior, he can hit, block shots, play on the PP and PK.  The only down side to Markov is that he usually plays only 60 games a season but other than that hes a great defencman

  11. TMLfan2005 says:

Like the person before me said, it was so close they probably just jumped the gun a little bit. But still I think it’s a good website. Alot of information there.

  12. kamullia says:

Could very well be, but I was only able to trace it on “print” to Buzz, hence why my post. However, if you are talking about Madden talking about it, it happened after Buzz had posted on their blogs, since you can find on their blogs when eventually Madden made reference to Markov many posts into it.

Pens will have fun next season.  Half their team to resign and 5 mil to do it.

  14. mojo19 says:

The Pens should offer him a 1 year deal since they've got more priorities next summer. But Maybe since Danny's bounced around so much he won't go for a 1 year deal?

Anyway's my personal feelings for Danny Markov off the ice aside, on the ice he's a very good d-man, and would solidify Pittsburgh's top 4 D as:
    Sydor – Markov

Since they're contenders, I think they should go after Markov because defense is their only real weak spot.

  15. intelligentscorpio says:

Danny Markow would be what the doctor ordered. He is a top 4D, and will fit in the Pens system very well and make them a real contender. I am surprised taht he is still out there looking for a deal. Ray, get that pen out and sign Markow asap.

  16. leaffansareajoke says:

I wouldn't want the Flyers to play against a Pens team with him 8 times a year.  Thats for sure.

  17. nova_scotia123 says:

I heard Markov really enjoys the white stuff so maybe he will try to sign with a Canadian team so he can play in the snow too
