Players likely to move before the end of the winter transfer window in the NHL

The transfer window in the NHL is still open for another few weeks and as usual, fans are looking forward to epic trade deals. Last minute deals as has become the norm are always epic and at times surprising. This is a great time for fans not just because their teams are strengthening for the upcoming season but because it’s a good time to make some profits betting on the potential destinations of NHL superstars.

Let us look at some of the players likely to be traded before the end of the transfer window.

Cam Ward to Calgary Flames

Most pundits are tipping Cam Ward to become a flame before the 2018 deadline. Ward is a solid player who excels in goaltending. He is technically a free agent right now and considering the challenges Calgary have in the goaltending department, it seems pretty clear who the go-to guy is in this transfer period. Age has caught up with their first choice Mike Smith while the backup, Eddie Lack is too inconsistent and age is not on his side.

Gustav Nyquist to Columbus Blue Jackets

It’s been a while since Gustav Nyquist’s name circled in the rumour section of different newspapers and sites. Many players left the Detroit Red Wings after it embarked on a rebuilding exercise earlier this year and Gustav is one of the few core players still at the club. However, it looks increasingly likely that the Detroit Red Wings will trade their star man before the 2018 deadline and the likely destination is the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Jimmy Howard to Winnipeg Jets

During the last transfer period, the Winnipeg Jets signed a veteran keeper, Steve Mason who has found it to dislodge starter, Connor Hellebuyk. The Jets have already qualified for the playoffs thus; they will be looking for an upgrade on their keeper who though performing superbly, lacks the experience, which the likes of Jimmy Howard have, in abundance. Howard’s team Detroit Red Wings is rebuilding and they just signed a young goalie in Petr Mrazek so parting with the long-serving Howard will not be much of a problem.

Alexander Edler to Florida Panthers

Since the start of the year, the Vancouver Canucks have stated they are on a rebuilding mission and have already traded veterans Alexandre Burrows and Jannick Hansen so there is a high likelihood that more veterans are going to be traded before the 2018 deadline. Though he still has 2 years running on his current contract with the Vancouver Canucks, it seems his time is up at the club and a change is needed possibly to the Florida Panthers. The Panthers are in need of experienced players and Alexandre will fit the bill perfectly. More so, the two clubs have a long history of doing business together.
