Possibility of making the playoffs…

The canucks playoff hopes may have just been crushed today. Making a bad day worse, on the day Canada was eliminated, Ohlund got driven into the boards against the Swiss and may have broken ribs or maybe a shoulder too. Salo was also injured today, with what is suspected to be a “severly dislocated shoulder.”

With jovanovski still injured, the Canucks defence corp consists of Allen, McCarthy, Baumgartner… To have any hope the Canucks need to acquire some defensemen. IMO Possible targets could be Willie Mitchell, Keith Carney and Brendan Witt. Also, they’re still the Weinrich rumors. your opinions?

they will need some help put it that way cause auld is gonna face quite a bit of rubber.

We’ll have to wait a few more days to see how severe the injuries to these two guys will be…and how much time they will miss. But no doubt, this was an awful, awful day for the Canucks. Ohlund is a very good defenseman, and Salo was playing great today as well. Weinrich is a very safe bet for a rental. He fits in wherever he goes, and still has excellent awareness in his own zone. He’s as brainy a defensive defenseman as there is.

Trade Bertuzzi for Brenden Witt and Jeff Friesen. That would be ideal for the nucks.

  4. Cnucks669 says:

that is dumbest proposed trade ever. Bertuzzi should grouped together with someone else and be traded for a number one defenceman and a decent goalie, or a number one goalie and a decent defenceman….plenty of possiblities, just hope that they dont trade him for crap.

  5. laserman says:

Too bad nobody nailed that prick Ruutu…

  6. Habfanforever says:

If I was Gainey I’d ship Souray and mid level pick for Bertuzzi.

i know canucks lost a few more of there key defensman, but Ouland has a cracked rip and is questionable for fridays game, so he wont be out long, i dont know about salo though, but its a bit quickly to say the wont make the playoffs, u cant just alsume that they got a few injuries and there done.

  8. toronto77 says:

even if the leafs make the playoffs their not gonna get past the first round so you guys can borrow mccabe if you want as long as you promise to give him back in the off season. A canadian team helping another canadian team out.

  9. Neely4Life says:

    was this a joke?

  10. Aetherial says:

Ohlund has one cracked rib and 2 bruised ones.

Alfredsson missed what, 2 weeks? How long did McCabe miss? How much time has Forsberg missed? Or Sundin or Lindros… the list goes on and on and on…

Vancouver will have to suck it up. This is NOT the end of the world or an excuse to not make the playoffs.

  11. FlamingHomer says:

    I second the motion.

  12. FlamingHomer says:

At what point did this become a Leaf’s story?

  13. Realistic says:

It will take more than that for Bert!

  14. Realistic says:

Give it up with the leaf sh*t man, he was making a f*cking joke!

  15. nivek_ogn says:

The Western Conference is a very tight race. It won’t take much to drop right out. The Sens didn’t fare to well without Spezza and Alfredsson, but preventing goals is the most important part of the playoffs. Missing the top 3 defence men in the playoffs won’t do much. Without Ohlund, Salo and Jovanovski, their hope of doing much in the playoffs. They would be coming back from injuries and expected to jump into playoff intensity or close to and succeed. It’s asking alot

Do you kiss you mother with that mouth?

were you drunk when you typed that?

  18. Tuner44 says:

Ruutu is obviously doing a great job for Vancouver to call him a prick. Best value for the money easily on Vancouver. Everyone hates him but everyone would love him if he played for their team. Btw, loudest chants at gm place are ruuuuuuuuuutu.

  19. Tuner44 says:

Typical hockey trade rumor site posting, a question about the nucks making the playoffs yet these clowns still stick toronto and montreals name in their posts. Injuries are not as serious as first anounced, shocker media spreading rumors before fact, and if anything gives them a chance to rest for short time to make playoff run. with these injuries happening when they did they will recover in time for playoffs and Vancouver will make playoffs with a healthy lineup barring any more injuies down the stretch with Auld number 1 and cloutier backing him up, yes cloutier.

  20. laserman says:

If lowering the quality of a game by giving one of the dirtiest hits ever in the olympics is your idea of doing a great job then I hope that other teams continue doing a great job against Vancouver. That hit almost made Bertuzzi look like an altar boy…

  21. thegoalie1976 says:

Why is nobody mentioning the severe lack of goaltending that vancouver has. Would anyone trust their stanly cup hopes to AULD. Vancouver has worse goalies than Edmonton. Van needs a capable goalie BAD. Look for a pickup of Roloson, Biron, Toskala. Mabey Biron for Bertuzzi. Berts valve is dropping like a rock. He will be moved at the deadline for a goalie. If vancouver still has him by summer he will be hard to move. Most overpayed and underliked player on the team.

  22. Milohabs says:

To answer your question. The truth is that Jovanovski, Salo & Ohlund are NOT replaceable. The Canucks have arguably the top 3 ‘D’ on any team, and you don’t just replace them. As much as I like vancouver, they are not going anywhere near the cup this year. Goaltending is questionable (even if Cloutier returns). ‘D’ is all banged up now. Bertuzzi & Naslund are not lighting it up. It’s just not in the cards this year.

  23. UWSensFan says:

Redden, Chara, Phillips, Meszaros…I’d say the Sens are contenders for top D in the league. Also up there would have to be Calgary and Philly.

  24. Maximus says:

How about Gonchar for Bertuzzi? Both high salary underachieving star players. Gonchar is starting to come around. Playing well at the olympics. Bertuzzi could be Crosby’s winger.

  25. FlamingHomer says:

There’s a big difference between being an agitator that commands respect around the league and a coward such as Ruutu.

By the way, I wouldn’t use Vancouver as a measuring stick for cheering, since 29 arenas boo Bertuzzi every time he touches the puck and only 1 support his act.

  26. Realistic says:

I apologize, there was no need for that kind of language….I am just so tired of Leafs fans and Leaf haters constantly taking an obscure comment and taking over the whole thread with shots flying to and fro…let’s talk hockey instead of constant Leafs are awesome, Leafs suck chatter!

  27. thegoalie1976 says:

I agree. Vancouver will be a first round exit…..no matter what seed they are. I cannot see them beating any top 8 team in a 7 game series. A playoff run is just not happening in BC ths year.

  28. FlamingHomer says:

Agree. I’m not a Leaf team or fan hater, I would just like to see as much diversity as possible regarding coverage of other teams. Now why don’t we just all band together and bash the Oilers.

  29. laserman says:

Thanks FH, I couldn’t have said it any better…

  30. crazycanucksfan says:

Check your facts man…. yes the canucks may be with out key defenceman when play resumes on the 28th, but all of them are expected back with in the next four weeks. SO missing the top three defencemen in the playoffs won’t happen. i am not saying that march will be an easy month for us, but to think that these players will be out 8 weeks is just silly. Be logical, or check your facts, both are off base in this case
