Possible Outcomes for the Habs

Hello Everyone,

Well I got an interesting response to my posting.
Most of my ideas have already come from various media sources as being probable outcomes for the habs. To begn with I read about all issues concerning the Habs from such media outlets as RDS, TQS-110% Rue Frontenac, CKAC, TSN, NHL.com the NHL Network on Tv, the 4th period and Hockey Trade rumours. That being said, most of the trades I have mentioned or FA signings are not impossible to imagine.

For all those who think that St. Louis can not be involved in the same trade for Lecavalier should consider the fact that Vinny sais he wanted to play with St. Louis for the rest of his career, if he could he would take his buddy with him wherever he goes. That was a message to the Lightning management & to the Habs that if you want me take my buddy as well.
I remember when Tampa won the cup, St.Louis brought the cup to the Montreal suburb of Ste. Dorothee a suburb of Montreal and he organized a meet & greet in fron of the IGA supermarket, all I can say is he loves his hometown and he would love to play for them if he can come to Montreal with Vinny.

Secondly most Quebecors would love to play for the Habs. Lets take J.P Dumont & Francois Beauchemin as examples. In the case of Dumont when Buffalo cut him loose a couple of seasons ago he waited as long as he could for the habs to sign him, however when it became evident that Bob Gainey wasn’t going to sign him, only then did he sign with Nashville. As for Beauchemin he was stolen from Montreal. During the Lockout there was a Gentlemans agreement by ALL gm’s not to pick up any players off the unprotected list, well Doug Maclean who was Columbus’s gm at the time decided that giving his word did not matter and he took Beauchemin. Now after all these years later Beauchemin is being told by Anaheim to test the market, the first words out of his mouth was I am going to go back to montreal if they want me. To conclude my point on this topic when a player of Alkex Tanguy’s stature says I had no pressure or problems from the media and I loved playing here and I want to continue to play here that only helps the canadians cause, especially with quebec born players.

Now as for the Komisarek & Higgins trade. They are both friends, they grew up together and their families are close friends. According to TQS Komisarek has taken all his belongings from his home in montreal and appears to want out, as for higgins he said two important things that indicates to me and others he wants out. First, he said he is tired of the fans who make up stuff and spread rumours when the team isn’t playing well, secondly he told a french media reporter, I think it was Richard Labbe that why should he feel bad for his season, he did his best. Those to me are signs he doesn’t want to be back. In a way can you blame him, it always seems that the habs want to trade him. As for Halak going the ilanders are desperate to get a good goalie and I think Jaro might interest the islanders because of his strong play of late, especially at seasons end and most of all he is young and cheap.

Thirdly, the individual who said that Begin isn’t even on are team should try to understand what I meant by signing him. Last time I checked a FA is open for all teams to sign, including the team he played for most of the season. Also I can’t imagine Dallas being happy with Begin. When the Habs were swept by the Bruins Begin was hanging around the dressing room, he also participated in a team dinner at Dandenaults house and I believe also at an official team dinner at a restaurant. I have no problem with that but technically he still belongs to Dallas until July 1st. Part of the reason I said begin should be back is because he commands allot of respect from the guys and they were all upset when he left. Kind of makes you think about how Carbonneau alienated himself by getting rid of Begin. According to Dandenault, the team never wanted steve to leave.

Now concerning the Boumeester trade, the Habs are always mentioned as one of the teams after him. Every rumour concering Jay always mentions Montreal and Philly as possible destinations, who in the league has salary cap room like montreal, don’t forget the cap is going down and montreal & I think the Rangers have the most leeway. So its not impossible the habs pitch a strong offer.

Now I left the best for last. Drafting Tavares & Hedman, I agree most unlikely to happen, yet alone getting 1 & two but think of this, with what montreal would be willing to give up in the supposed islander deal would make the islanders a good team right away, if they stick to the plan the islanders would draft tavares and that’s only one person, what if he gets hurt, he’s only one guy, how much leadership can he bring to a team like the islanders in the first year? Look at Stamkos, good player but did he change Tampa’s fortunes, did Lecavlier in his first year or who remembers Joe Thornton in his first year with the Bruins? Actually Samsonov came in at the same time as Thornton and played better and got more ice time, just ask Pat Burns. Therefore its not out of the question that Garth Snow wouldn’t trade away the pick, especially since charles wang the ownner of the islanders needs to attract interest and push for a new arena and the lighthouse project. Welcoming home to native long islanders would make the fans very happy and attach the islanders further to their community.

As for the Tampa pick, they also need to build around youngsters and with what montreal would be giving up, tampa overnight would have plenty of talent and young players who I might remind you guys are cheap.

I am not saying my draft predictions will happen but Bovin & Gainey said they need a splash at the draft, they need it, their fans need it. If I had luxury suite and the habs called me to renew my contract for the 09-10 season I would ask, I am going to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars, what am I supposed to watch on the ice???
