Possible Solutions For Leafs?

After yesterday’s aquistion of Mike Comrie by the Ottawa Senators, I once again fear them. Once Spezza and Fisher come back they will have Comrie as either a second or third line center! The guy can still score!

So, I have compiled a list of what the Leafs can do to become competitive in the Northeast Division. JFJ came on the Fan590 a few days ago and stated that the Leafs have about $500,000 dollars in cap space to work with, so here are my possible solutions, which are all speculation:

NOTE: IF THE LEAFS MAKE ONE OF THESE MOVES, THEY WILL NOT MAKE THE OTHER ONE, SO THESE ARE BOTH SEPERATE SCENARIOS

SOLUTION 1

To Toronto:
Ladislav Nagy ($3,000,000)
Mid-Round Draft Pick

To Phoenix:
Nik Antropov ($1,007,000)
Brendan Bell ($450,000)
Jeff O’Neill ($1,500,000)

This would finally give Sundin a good winger to play with. Nagy is only 25 years old and eve though we are losing Bell we are getting a winger who will be around in the future, also we have enough good young defenseman in the system to be able to lose on. I think that the Leafs should finish with Antropov, we have given him multople chances and he hasn’t shown much. I know Phoenix is re-building but I think O’Neill would be a great leader in that locker room. So overall i think it would be an even deal.

SOLUTION 2

To Toronto:
Shawn Horcoff ($3,600,000)
Joffrey Lupul ($1,500,000)
4th rd. draft pick

To Edmonton:
Pavel Kubina ($5,000,000)
Alex Steen ($770,000)
2nd rd. draft pick

This is a fairly even trade, Kubina is a very good defenseman but can only excel if in the #1 defensive line, not the 2nd. He needs minutes to excel. Edmonton is looking for a puck moving defenseman and Kubina is their answer. The Oilers have been shopping Horcoff actively and I think he would be a great fit in T.O, playing with Mats could have him play the way he did in last year’s playoffs.

After Mats leaves, maybe Horc would be able to replace him, but that is a big MAYBE. He would be a great 2nd line center and would fit in to Paul Maurice’s system. Alex Steen and Joffrey Lupul have both been underachieving this year, they are both still young and I think a change of scenery for both would do wonders for them. The reason I inclued the draft picks are because Edmonton is taking on Kubina’s hefty salary.

What’s your guys take, would this work, is it possible, does JFJ go on HTR.com, who knows?
