PREDATORS ACQUIRE DEL ZOTTO FROM RANGERS FOR D KLEIN

The Nashville Predators have swapped defencemen with the New York Rangers, sending right-handed shooter Kevin Klein to New York in exchange for a lefty in Michael Del Zotto.

The Predators announced the trade Wednesday before heading to Vancouver for a four-game road swing.

“Michael gives us another young, gifted left-handed shooting defenceman with significant offensive upside,” Predators general manager David Poile Poile said in a statement. “We look forward to his presence on our already talented young blue line, further balancing our defensive corps.”

This is the best the Rangers can get for Del Zotto?

If this is the market out there for young d-men, I think Gardiner just secured his future in Toronto for the foreseeable future.

Can you say Good Bye Shea Webber

    • realistic_leafs_fan says:

Funny thing about Weber is I don’t believe he has a no-trade on that huge contract.

Ok, now seriously, what does everyone think it will actually take to acquire Weber?

        • realistic_leafs_fan says:

If it’s Toronto, I think you start with Kessel or JVR and go from there. Not saying we should do it, just that’s what I believe it will take.

I would agree with RLF, that it would realistically take Kessel plus something. Not a price I’d pay. I’m honestly not sure any team will pay the price.

Preds will sail into the future with a backend built around Jones, Josi, MDZ, Weber and Rinne and the forwards built around Wilson, Forsberg and Smith.

I don’t mind this trade for NYR at all. Del Zotto wasn’t playing well and they obviously tested the market for him. They shipped out a LHD which they have a bunch of for a really solid RHD which they need. Especially if Girardi leaves, they would only have Stralman as an RHD. With Girardi, Klein and Stralman on the right now, their D are a lot more solid and a lot less fun to play against. He’s also on a great deal at 2.9 for 3 more years. I like it for the Rangers.

Also, with Nash and Lund both heating up, watch out. That team is better than their record indicates.

    • Yeah. It definitely seems like they took less so they could get back a Right-side player with a right handed shot.

He’s got a thoroughness to his game that most of the Rangers D lacks. Still, I think Del Zotto could’ve been a lot better for us if they kept him on the left side and gave him minutes to accomplish something. He’s got a confidence issue, but if he can clear his head, I think he’ll play pretty good for Nashville. I don’t think it would’ve been entirely unfair to ask for a 2nd/3rd round pick coming back with this…

I like him in Nashville. Putting back to the left side, and placing him with Weber could be unreal. Plus it helps having Phil Housley as the defensive coach…

I think this is a good trade for the Rangers, stellar or ideal no, but good yes. I don’t think the NY media and the widespread speculation of AV non support hurt their trade strength.

    • Gambo says:

Yeah i think it’s a good trade for both sides, would have thought nyr could have gotten a bit more, but Klein is steady, i like him.

And the cost of Weber would be way more than any team would be willing to give up but it might not be a bad idea to trade him, i think they should do a rebuild, they need some young offensive players and they do have Jones to hopefully replace him. Ideally they should let Jones shadow him for another season or two.
