Predators RFAs and UFAs

As reported in the Tennessean this morning (Article Link):

The Predators have made qualifying offers to 10 restricted free agents: forwards Greg Classen, Martin Erat, Adam Hall, Scott Hartnell, David Legwand, Libor Pivko, Jordin Tootoo and Brandon Segal and defensemen Sheldon Brookbank and Dan Hamhuis.

The Predators did not make QOs to forwards Denis Arkhipov and Jeremy Yablonski, and goalie Brian Finley and defenseman Rick Berry, so they turn UFA.

Also, it looks like all of the Predators UFAs (goalie Chris Mason, forwards Yanic Perreault, Greg Johnson, and Mike Sillinger, and defensemen Mark Eaton, Danny Markov, and Brendan Witt) will get to test the market. The Predators are keeping the doors open with Mason, Perreault, Eaton and Witt, but don’t expect anything done by July 1st.

As Poile has publicly said, this is the year of the free agent defenseman, so he has a lot of options to look at in terms of acquiring one veteran defenseman to compliment the Predators young, talented blueline.

The Predators will look for a back-up goaltender, but may wait a while and see how Mason does on the market. They’d love to have him back, but do respect his desire to try to find a starting position.

Finally, the Predators are looking for a center by free agency or trade. Expect them to be in the bidding for Jason Arnott among others.
