PREDATORS TRADE CAPTAIN ARNOTT TO DEVILS FOR HALISCHUK, PICK

The New Jersey Devils have re-acquired forward Jason Arnott.

The Devils announced Saturday they shipped right-winger Matt Halischuk and a 2011 second-round draft pick to the Nashville Predators for the 35-year-old Arnott.

Arnott
had 19 goals and 27 assists in 63 games last season. He scored the Stanley Cup-clinching goal for the Devils against the Dallas Stars in 2000.

Halischuk , 22, had one goal in 20 games with the Devils last season.

Pretty good trade. The Preds just continue to add more picks, which is never a bad idea. They have more money to extended Hornqvist, and Shea Weber, but they are awfully close to the cap floor still. They might actually be in the market for some free agents this summer. It's not a bad destination to go either. They also traded Dan Hamhuis rights for Ryan Parent, which I thought for a great move.

Maybe a guy like Alex Frolov would be interested in playing in Nashville. Offer him 4 years, 4.25 million per year? He seems like a guy that's going to be undervalued this summer, and someone will end up getting him at a fair price.

    Frolov – Wilson – Hornqvist
    Sullivan – Erat – Dumant
    Ward – Legwand – Goc
    Smithson – Boyd – Tootoo

    Weber – Suter
    Parent – Grebeshkov
    Klein – Franson/Boullion

    Rinne
    Ellis

That's a rock solid team right there. They lacked depth upfront, but even with no UFA signings this summer they'll be stacked on defense. They need one more top 6 forward (Frolov) and a few bottom 6 forwards, and that could be an awesome team. I guarentee Colin Wilson is going to have a breakout year as well (which is why I had him on line 1). He's the total package. NHL size, and toughness, and he's got loads of skill. I'm going to go out on a limb and say right now I think he was the third best player from the 2008 draft class (better then Hodgson, Bogosian, and Pietrangelo).

I love the potential this team has this year. One of the strongest management and coaching staffs in the league as well. Just smart hockey people.

Yes I agree, that does look like a good team.

The only thing that I disagree with is I think Frolov is going to be overvalued.

In terms of offence there's Marleau, Kovalchuk, Plekanec (sometimes), Lombardi, and Frolov.  With 5 guys and pretty much every team looking for top-six forwards, and the call from Russia for players to return to the motherland, means these guys won't come cheap.  Though I think 5 – 5.5 would get it done.  I don't know if that's in Nashville's price range, but they did just trade away Arnott's 4.5.

as a habs fan i can see the devils now making a move for kaberle,as the acquistion for arnott now makes zajac available to be traded to the laffs in a draft day trade.

I still don't see it. Arnott isn't a first line center. It just wouldn't work out for them. Unless Lou plans on grabbing Pleks on July 1st (which wouldn't surprise, he would fit perfectly into that system) to replace Zajac, I can't see it happening. If anything, this is just a trade by Lou to give the team more depth.
