Preds trade for Steve Sullivan

During the Predators broadcast:

Nashville has officially aquired Steve Sullivan from the Chicago Blackhawks for 2 future Second round draft picks. This is good for Nashville because Sullivan obviously has more of a scoring touch than anyone on the team, he’s a good leader, AND a great penalty killer.

Excellent acquisition. He’s exactly the type of player they need if they are going to make a drive for a playoff spot. This teams now has a good mix of youth and experience as well as talent and grit in order to make some noise in a very tough conference.

  2. simplyhabby says:

Man it must suck to be a blackhawk fan these days. What leadership does this team have now? How come a serious playoff contender did not pick this guy up?

Great trade by Nashville. This team just got tougher.

  3. dkball7 says:

    DAMMIT LOU!!!

This trade puts the predz over the edge, as they are now a playoff team. All they need now is to stay consistent and to maybe add a cup winning defenseman to their fold and they will make waves in the playoffs. This is the kind of team that can wear down a team in the 1st/2nd rounds and could be this year’s cindarella team.

  4. -MJ- says:

Having Legwand and Sullivan as the one/two centres makes the Predators a real threat to any team. They’re the hardest working squad in the NHL; Sullivan’s the guy that’s going to put the Preds over the edge, into the playoffs.

As a Blackhawk’s Fan, All i can say is that I’m Disgusted. Narcoleptic Donkeys could run that team better.

    That is all.

  6. Lint07 says:

    Excellent trade for Nashville.

Wow, this one came from nowhere! They didn’t paid much for Sullivan. He’ll fit great with their team. Awesome

btw, the Flyers acquired LW Steve Gainey from the Stars if anybody care.

  7. jacosta says:

    This proves two things,

that the most valuable commodity this trade deadline is not what you can give in return, but rather what and how many draft picks can you give. Teams that are selling are asking for draft picks probably more then anything else.

Second this proves that we should not criticise anyone for their suggestions of trade value. Because Sullivan was the Hawks best player (some will say Zhamnov) but Sullivan was their only great talent to watch on that team. And for him to go for two 2nd rounders is pretty cheap.

  8. dkball7 says:

    You guys exist???

  9. Chenard says:

And as a Habs fan, I can now say that the Hawks and Habs have been involved in the worst trades of all times. Not that this rates up there, just another nail in Chicago’s coffin. And in Chicago’s case, trading for the future and rebuilding is one thing, but if you constantly trade your players for draft picks, that’s all you’ll ever have.

    Cheers,

    D.

  10. HabsNick says:

Ouch to the Hawks for having been raped on that trade, Sullivan is a great balanced player that any team would want to have on their second line.

Ouch to the Oils which just got a damper put on their playoff hopes.

Ouch to the Hawk fans who just lost *yet* another reason to follow their team, i just hate to see an Original 6 go down like that.

Ouch to the Canucks who could’ve really used a guy like Sullivan in their lineup, guess they didn’t know he was available, or Burke didn’t want to part with draft picks. (or the Sedins)

Hurray to the Predz who just drastically improved their team, they needed the extra scoring.

  11. FanoftheGame says:

Steve will play 2 games in the next oh I’d say the rest of this year+next.

  12. FanoftheGame says:

    Thibault is next…

  13. Habfanforever says:

Does anyone know when Daze is coming back? He’d sure fit well in Montreal. He’s a francophone and one BIG power forward that can easily post a 40-40 season with Saku and Ryder by his side.

I’d love to see Gainey go for Daze.

  14. mojo19 says:

into the playoffs and maybe into the second round

  15. mojo19 says:

yeah Daze is good. Koivu is not.

  16. rojoke says:

Daze was rumoured to be going to Montreal, or at least had offered for him, three or four years ago. So if a couple of draft picks gets Sullivan, which was way too little, maybe Daze could be had for a single.

  17. rojoke says:

Write down this date in the history books. The first trade that Nashville’s made for a playoff run. Welcome to the club. Now all you have to do is get by the doorman.

  18. Beckfan5 says:

Can we have a few of those donkeys to run the Rangers?

  19. Pock says:

Relax. Number 1 there in the other conference, secondly theres nothing wrong w/ the Stanley Cup champions. Stevens will return for the playoffs and Langenbruner is starting to look like himself before he got hurt. Lou knows whats best, last year no big splashes and we got a cup.

  20. dkball7 says:

Last year was different. I know I’m overreacting, but it gets frustrating when our team can’t score. At least last year the devs generated limitless chanses, but this year it seems difficult for our team to generate an effective breakout. Plus, I just wanted Stevie back!!!

  21. OldNord says:

Probably that Chicago have tried to sign a long term contract with him during the season and Sullivan and his agent are asking too much. they were deadlocked and gave up on him. Too bad for the Hawks, he would have been a good player to build around, showing the example by his dynamism. Two second round picks aren’t so bad, but not for Chicago.

When they’re gonna win? Who’s gonna pave the way? Will the prospects pan out? I don’t know what the Hawks managers are putting in the bucket, but they should stop to smoking the peacepipe.

  22. mikster says:

Well, Mike Smith has completely destroyed that team, no question about it.

Not that Pulford has been that good either as of late. Traded Klemm for Robidas and now Sully for those two 2nd rounders?

I, too, hate to see an Original 6 team go down in flames, but… between now and the end of the 04/05 season (I personally am just going to go on living assuming there will be one), they only need to win 2 events to start rebuilding a ‘storied’ franchise – this year’s lottery for Ovechkin, and next year’s lottery for Crosby!

It’s a long term plan but a damn good one!

Which brings me to this question. Suppose the 04/05 season is cancelled. Then they solve their multi-million dollar bickering sometime in the spring of ’05. Anybody know how the draft will work? Shouldn’t really use this year’s stats for it? Put all teams into the lottery? Just curious.

  26. Kevo13 says:

Daze is looking to be back on Feb 29. or the first week of March, same as Thibault

  27. afanofthelakings says:

Man, francophone doesn’t like to play for the Canadiens because of the Media Pressure

  28. Aetherial says:

I don’t know what is more Pathetic, the Blackhawks or the Penguins.

Yet another example of what is wrong in the NHL these days.

These teams are holding fire sales because they simply cannot spend the money to compete with St. Lous, Detroit, Colorado, Philadelphia, Toronto, and, in the near future, Ottawa….

Chicago should be one of the wealthy teams in the league. I think perhaps the destruction of this team is the worst mismanagement I have seen since the Leafs in the Harold Ballard days.

  29. Zamboni says:

    F*CK YOU, BILL WIRTZ!

    THAT’S IT. I’M DONE.

    SCREW THE HAWKS.

  30. Zamboni says:

Sullivan was the heart and soul of what little was left of the Hawks. (Zhamnov is just the f’ng p*ssy we traded away Roenick for…) I wanted to puke when I heard the news this morning.

  31. Lint07 says:

they traded for Oleg Petrov last year…

Not exactly Sullivan caliber, but it was for a playoff push nonetheless

  32. Lint07 says:

    I thought of that too…

The best bet so far (from what I heard) would be all the teams in the lottery.

I’m already dreaming of the Habs drafting 1st for Crosby.

I don’t know why but I’m sure Colorado would win if all the teams were in the lottery for Crosby…

  33. HabsNick says:

Is it just me or do the Hawks scouts really blow? They’ve been finishing in the last few spots for a few years yet don’t have much to show for it.

I think the Pens are in a better spot than the Hawks right now since they have better prospects to work with.

  34. NemiNA says:

HOLY SHIT! THE REDS ACTUALLY MADE A MOVE TO STRENGTHEN THERE TEAM! DAMN! the leage is gonna fold huh?

  35. Kevo13 says:

Well I wouldn’t say they have NO tallent in their System, They do have their young stars like Calder, Bell (who is a future Captain), Rutuu, I’ll mention Arnason, but I’ve noticed that he’s a bit lazy out on the ice sometimes. Also, I’d keep an eye out for Pavel Vorobiev and Igor Radulov in the near future.. and I was quite impressed With Brent Seabrook in the World Juniors. Also, Mikhail Yakubov is another player that i liked what I saw when he played earlier this season. And as of late Craig Anderson (one of the golies that took over Thibault posision) has shown some skill aswell. And lets not forget Anton Babchuk, who won the Hardest shot competition at the AHL All-Star Game.

I say if they stop trading all there players for Draft Pics and can hold on to Daze, and Thibalt, they might start to come around in the next few seasons…

  36. gman says:

I think this is a sure sign that the hawks are going to start rebuilding again but I would think they could have got more for Sullivan than just two second rounders, didn’t he score 40 goals two years ago? Zhamnov will for sure soon be traded and hopefully they get more than picks, maybe some young players in return. We shall have to wait and see.

    gman

  37. AxisofEvil says:

Man I’m impressed. The Preds actually acquired a good forward and might actually make the plaoffs for the first time in franchise history. Good for them. It must suck to be a hawks fan right now, I feel sorry for you guys.

  38. rojoke says:

No, some francophones don’t want to play for the Canadiens because of the media. Pierre Turgeon, for one, couldn’t handle the pressure. Patrice Brisebois, on the other hand, with all he’s been through with the fans and media, is still there. Vinny Damphousse, to my knowledge, didn’t have a problem playing there. So that just doesn’t wash.

  39. rojoke says:

From The Hockey News, Feb. 3 edition:

“Should labour issues wipe out the entire 2004-05 season, the no. 1 pick in the 2005 draft won’t automatically go to the team finishing last this season, according to published reports.

Although a contingency plan is not official, the Toronto Star reports all 30 NHL teams would get a chance to select Sidney Crosby, the undisputed early-line top pick in June 2005. The lottery odds would be skewed towards non-playoff teams.”

  40. smooth4488 says:

Daze will not happen. He is still young enough, they are going to build around him.
