Prospal On the go?

It is likely that Vaclav Prospal has played his last game in Tampa, reports the Tampa Tribune.

Prospal may be eligible to become a special class unrestricted free agent (a 10 year veteran that is earning less than the league average salary) and will be looking to get a substantial raise form the $1.55 million he earned last season. Coming off a career year 79 point effort, he is bound to get such an increase in the open market. The Lightning will likely not be able to afford to match the kind of offers Prospal should get. {source-Tampa Tribune]

Can you say One year wonder? This bastard cost me my hockey pool.

  2. DaMick says:

He always had the talent..but never put it together till last year.

Yeah i agree though….he wont do it again

  3. defenestrate says:

According to HTR, he can only go to the Leafs or the Rangers – so – which one is it?

  4. edmontonrules says:

I think the Thrashers have a good chance.

  5. Pock says:

rangers get Prospal. its only fair

  6. OldNord says:

It’s a good thing for the Bolts, Prospal always played well before his contract’s year.

It’s a changeable player who don’t upgrade his play when that count.

If I were a GM, I would not bring this guy on my team.

I’m practically sure next year we will not pass the 60 pts.

  7. mikster says:

    That was not funny.

  8. sluggo says:

I think if Prospal gets to play with the right players he can repeat what he did this year. I think hes like Paul Kariya, the more talent thats around him the better he is.

I would like to see him come to Toronto, he’d fit in nicly as the 2nd line left wing with Antropov and Nolan.

  9. Goldenscud says:

he was the AHL scoring champ like three years in a row!!! ha ha

  10. Goldenscud says:

are you sure that either team will have teh money? Since they will be outbidding each other for LeClair, Wesley, Federov, Lemeuix, Jagr, Gretzky, Howe……………………………………………..

  11. Freeze says:

Regardless of where Prospal and all the other free agents end up, it’s good fantasy material for all the Toronto and New York crank yankers. With the 2003 free agent listing, Viagra sales must be going through the roof in those 2 cities.

Should this site be renamed to Let’s put it to a vote.

  12. OldNord says:

    Mark Howe is retired…

  14. Dikembe says:

That’s what I was thinking. I say drop Renberg etc and sign Smolinski, Whitney, Prospal, and de Vries and you’ll have

    Whitney – Sundin – Mogilny

    Prospal – Smolinski – Nolan

    Roberts – Antropov – Ponikarovsky

    Fitzgerald – Green – Domi

    Kaberle – de Vries

    McCabe – Wesley

    Pilar – Jackman/Berg

Roberts can teach Antropov how to not take the bad penalties, and hopefully he’ll have an even better season than last year.

  15. MantaRay says:

    Kariya? He’s a non-factor for any team.

He doesn’t work hard, he’s like the other $10 million Bure–only plays one end of the ice.

The heart and soul of the Ducks beyond Giguere is Rucchin, Carney and now Niedermayer. Kariya is nothing but a salary drain.

  16. bruinexpert says:

As much as I doubt this will happen (I can see them getting Whitney but not all three of those guys, that’s just dumb) I think It’s stupid at this point to keep moving antropov around. Don’t move a guy like this down or he’s not going to produce. He had such good chemistry with Mogilny, Nolan was alright but I think he’s better with a quick european style player like mogilny.

  17. MantaRay says:

I don’t think Prospol is going to get a fantastic raise by anyone other than the Bolts.

He is a very underrated player who will not attract that much attention on the market. But I think Tampa management has to realize this guys value to the team. He will not easily be replaced on Tampa which lacks offensive depth.

Tampa HAS TOO sign him if the are going to make the playoffs next year. If they don’t the team takes a giant step backward. They need to build on what they have.

  18. DaMick says:

Kariya???…prolly more like his less talented Brother

  19. big_booty says:

Oh, come on now. That was damn funny.

  20. Goldenscud says:

good one – you got me! ha ha

  21. sluggo says:

I only compaired Prospal to Kariya in that when they play with talented players they play much better, they aren’t the type of player that makes those around them better, but playing with talent they can be very good.

  22. bruinfan37 says:

He is the type of player the bruins need to play along with Stumple. I doubt it’ll happen, but hey, i’m allowed to hope

  23. aaron says:

Prospel’s the type of player that is the true gems on the free agent market. He’ll come cheap and put up decent numbers. Those are the type of players who, come June, will make the biggest difference.

  24. JStatic87 says:

If the Wings let Sergei walk then I did hear that they might go after Prospal. He would be substantially cheaper than Fedorov and would be a nice fit with Yzerman, Datsyuk, and Draper as the other centers. This would only happen if the Wings don’t resign Sergei.

  25. Oilspill says:

The Oilers could use some of Prospal’s skill up front…

but chances are if we picked him up, he’d pull a disappearing act like jiri dopita.

  26. devfanman4 says:

It’d be nice for the Devils to pick him up. He won’t have those numbers in NJ, but they’re a little short handed at the center position although I think Rupp should play a full season with the Devils next season. He played about 20 games this year and he looked great.

  27. canucklehead says:

How could he have been the scoring champ 3 years in a row when he only played in the AHL for 4 years, with point totals of 35,45,51 & 95. He NEVER won the AHL scoring title. Peter White did when they played together for the Phantoms. Check your facts!

  28. FLYGUY03 says:

Its always nice to dream! The Bolts will probably resign Prospal. Since the season will very short what does it matter anyway. Or is everyone forgetting about the fact that the NHLPA and the NHL have yet to agree on a new players contract.

  29. FLYGUY03 says:

As far as helping Yzerman…. what would you have him do carry a cane out on the ice for him.
