Rangers Ink Pair to Improve Weak Defense

Sather is starting to show activity. He just anounced the signings of Jason Strudwick and Trevor Gillies.

“Gillies, 25, skated in 61 matches with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, tallying two goals and one assist for three points, along with 277 penalty minutes. His 277 penalty minutes ranked first on the team. He also ranked third in the league with 35 major penalties.”

“Strudwick, 28, skated in 54 matches with the Chicago Blackhawks last season, tallying one goal and three assists for four points, along with 73 penalty minutes. His 73 penalty minutes ranked second among team defensemen and he also established a career-high with 14:54 time on ice.”

Well, Hopefully Sather stops now, and sticks to rebuilding. Gillies to me seems a lot like Dale Puritan, who the Rangers don’t need another one of…actually they don’t even need Dale. Could this mean that Demitra is next? I hope not, for the fact that the Rangers have a great chance at Sidney Crosby next year.

With Tom Renney now in complete control of the bench, the Rangers will try and be a trap team. The defense of the Rangers is alright now with the lines looking something like this

Kasparitis Pock

Tyutin Rachunek

Poti Bouchard Strudwick Puritan Nycholat

Goaltending is still not looking too good with

Dunham and LaBarbra, Lundquist and Blackburn in Hartford and Montoya hopefully in college

  2. OldNord says:

Demitra and Schneider (among the d-men available on the market via UFA, from memory, he’s the most valuable this year).

  3. CechmanekForVezina says:

Minnesota Wild, anyone? Far from a “bum expansion team in a non traditional hockey market.”

Ok, I just wanted so see if I could get you going and mad, I so enjoyed getting gretz’s goat and seeing him rattle on and bare his rear. I am not the idiot i have played in gretz99nyr, it was only in the name of entertainment but I see you are not the revengeful sort and I sincerly apoligze. you will not see me with your username again. i have a couple names and use one to talk hockey inteligently, but I was only having fun with gretz, I swear I will not do the same to you as I see you are a decent person. Again, I will not do in again, I apoligze.

  5. Pavel-Bure-NYR says:

no, I get it as soon as i sign up. I got it in less than a minute. Does it take you that long?

  6. Rancid says:

I think they need to stay away from 1 dimensional offensive players. I have to agree with bure whatever his name is about getting weimer. I would dump McCarthy tho.

They need to strengthen there D with a player to play beside Tyutin. Some sort of vet. Mayb Klemm.

    Thats my 2 cents.

Hell maybe we’ll get lucky and a player like Immonen will make the team.

  7. Pavel-Bure-NYR says:

hey see my post titled NO MORE- I mean everything i said, honestly.

  8. Pavel_Bure_NYR says:

  9. Pavel-Bure-NYR says:

Same to you, most would tell me to go stick something up my *** , thanks.

I hope he doesn’t go to the Rag$ because his career would be totally ruined. Send him to Columbus!!!

  11. Amcan says:

    Sandy is a FA

  12. Amcan says:

The North Stars leaving was a mistake. That was a sign of things to come from Bettman. He let their owner sell in exchange for the expansion Sharks.

  13. Rael says:

The Trap should be abolished…there are illegal defenses in other sports…this should be the one for hockey…slows the game, kills goals, and makes guys like Martin Brodeur look 20-30% better than they are…

  14. Kamakaze says:

I don’t know, it’s always good to have tougher guys like McCarthy around. He’s not great with the puck, but from what I saw, he work’s pretty hard. You NEED players who bring their game every night on a team like this, because the problem in the past was most guy’s just didn’t try.

From the Rangers games I saw, McCarthy is a guy I would want on my developing team, esspecially playing with Holik, those two could really start trouble together. Have them play with a good young checker with an offensive upside and you have a similar situation that San Jose had Cheechoo in last season with Ricci and Thorton, and he’s really a great young forward.

I do agree with a guy like Klemm, he’s not bad either.

  15. GretzNYR99 says:

That’s what I’m talking about right there, although I’d love to keep Holik if we could restructure his contract, like it would ever happen…

  16. GretzNYR99 says:

You’re right, Amcan. Crosby isn’t the only player worth getting, but I’d sure love to have someone who reset records in the QMJHL as a 16 year old. He put up numbers that not even LaFontaine and Lemieux put up at that age, and the game was more offense-oriented back in that time period also.

  17. GretzNYR99 says:

    Is that so, Bretzky? 😉

with the signing of strudwick, the rangers only have one more move to make: get rucinsky

i want the lines to be something like this for next season:

    rucinksy-moore-jagr

    j. green-lundmark-balej

    murray-holik-ortmeyer

    giroux-betts-mcCarthy

    poti-kasperitis

    tyutin-rachunek

    pock-strudwick

    dunham

    labarbera

I would love to see the rangers give dominic moore the oppurtunity to play with jagr. my biggest reaason, he seems to be the most NHL ready center in the rangers system that didnt play a lot last season. His first game last year he had 3 assists vs. the habs. Why can’t he do that more often?

Keep Josh Green, he played great last year with Balej, and i dont see any reasons why they wouldnt play great with each other this year.

The holik, ortmeyer, murray line is to give the rangers energy and a checking line that they havent had in years.

The 4th line is just for a couple of more guys to get some nhl playing time, and ofcourse, every team needs a fighter, so the rangers shall keep mccarthy.

The defensive pairings, i like to have everything balanced, so it’s basically like an offensive guy and a defensive guy for the pairings, besides the rachunek-tyutin line, because they have a both aspects of there game pretty good.

dunham has one year left on his contract so just let him play, and give labarbera a chance in the nhl, while blackburn spends a year in the minors and comes up once dunham is gone and danny is healthy. labarera sucked last year in the nhl, yea you can say that, but its not accurate since he only played about 4 games.

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    HERE COMES THE STANLEY CUP!

  21. GretzNYR99 says:

Can you say Jamie Lundmark? C’mon now, even Bruce Graham has far more offensive potential than Dominic Moore. That would be an atrocious decision to start Moore as a first line center with Jagr and Balej. Lundmark goes there.

  22. GretzNYR99 says:

    Awww, Bretzky found a lover!

  23. GretzNYR99 says:

    Is that so, Bretzky?

C’mon now, you’re losing your wit.

It’s faded over the however many screen names you’ve used.

  24. Amcan says:

Really you think so, because no one in the other 70+ comments thought so. Hell no one even mention being in the playoffs so shut your trap

  25. electro says:

no one else thinks so? I don’t give a ***** what they think, maybe we should all follow one person opinion you brown nosing faggot.

  26. electro says:

By the way, my comment was sarcastic………..The Rangers suck more than you do in subway stalls with old men

  27. GretzNYR99 says:

    Enough, Bretzky.

    It’s lost it’s luster.

  28. Amcan says:

ha, how many times have you used brown nosing, you stupid f|_|cker. Or something to do with my sexual preference, or family members. Come on, let me see you type a good one.

By the way, I was with ur mom last night. I found a very interesting fact about her. What is the difference between her, and a bowling ball?

  29. wheresthesoda says:

i know lundmark has more offensive talent than moore, but thats why lundmark wont play with jagr, have him play with balej.

and it wouldnt be balej and jagr both on the first line. lundmark should be on a line with josh green, and josef balej. moore needs to develop his offensive part of his game, so why not put him with one of the purest point producers in the league?

  30. wheresthesoda says:

i was with his mom last night too, were you that guy wearing a paper bag over his head?

by the way i accidently f*cked her rolls on her stomach by accident, at the time i couldnt tell the difference

  31. Amcan says:

I think that was her t*ts, but did you notice too that you could fit more fingers in her than a bowling ball?

  32. Gretz99NYR says:

I am Not Bretzky. I dont even know who or what he or it is, so stop calling me that.

  33. wheresthesoda says:

    i like him
