I like Santorelli a lot, but not 3yrs 9+ mil. Good hard worker and team guy good luck wherever he goes and thanks for getting us a pick

    I see no point in

    A) letting Nonis give out any more contracts
    B) keeping players who don’t help the Leafs win.

Franson has done good things. So has Winnik and Santorelli, and i would say so for Kadri too. But, lets not reward players with raises for missing the playoffs again. Lets move on from them and try something different.

Nonis, re-signing Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul, Bozak and signing Clarkson and Robidas has put a huge hit on the cap. With there talks of them negotiating with what they have, it makes me cringe.

Nonis needs to be fired to remove the final Brian Burke effect on the team.

I hear what you are saying about guys like Winnik and Santo, however I eel hat they are players for reasonable hits I would keep because of work ethic. To me they haven’t been a part of this obviously flawed team long enough to say they are the problem. However as much as I like them, I do not 3 mil+ a year like them. Bring on the assets and lets do this a different way for a change, patiently and through the draft!!!

well thats my point man, Nonis gives out bad cap hits like candy to kids on holloween. he’s brutal.

If they come cheap, great. but if they’re going to reward them with 3-4 year deals, i think i will be sick.

I can only pray Shanny isnt that dumb.

Ya, it’s like the Richards for Phaneuf swap that was rumored to have fallen apart, it make me wonder what the Leafs wanted added so badly that this happened. Not sure I am crazy about this deal as Richards has slowed, but he has the work ethic and character this team needs, just not the cap hit!!

        • blaze says:

I don’t think that deal was ever seriously considered. I highly doubt Toronto was willing to take on Richards contract unless they took Clarkson.

MacTavish in Edmonton and Nill in Dallas would love to grab a defensemen of Dions calibre and could handle the cap hit on their backend.

I’ve read from a few different places that the Leafs offered Clarkson for Richards but LA wanted Gardiner instead.

            • Gambo says:

Apparently the leafs were trying to get one of Toffoli or Pearson back for taking on Richards which was a big no.

  4. Gambo says:

Oh man, hearing a lot of talk about people wanting Franson captain now or when Phaneuf is traded. If Dion is this hated as captain, I can only imagine how hated Franson would be.

Lets just trade both and move on.

    • nordiques100 says:

completely agree. lets move on from these players who have not helped the Leafs win and get some other assets back.

And i even don’t mind Franson. I think he truly wants to be here. but if it means 5-6 million for him to stay, i rather just wish him the best and move on.

Nonis just seems like the guy though to give him 5 years, 28 million and be proud to spend that money on a 5th defenceman on a good team.
