Rangers to loose option on Jagr?
Larry Brooks of the New York Post is reporting that the New York Rangers gave up the option on Jagr’s contract. Unless he hits some performance clauses he cold become an UFA this offseason.
What is interesting about this article is that Jagr apparently has to hit 84 points this season in order to activate his contract next season but the problem is that he is on pace for a career worst amount of points, 62. HTR feels that it will be interesting to see what happens with Jagr this season as it was well known that he was disappointed that he lost his line mate, Nylander this past summer. With Nylander on his line Jagr appeared to be rejuvenated.

Not that I'm saying this article is wrong because its possible but Larry Brooks is a Fuc*ing tool and the Post is garbage.
I think that the expectation was for Jagr to hit 84+ points like he does season in, season out.
And also for the Rangers to advance to the second round of the playoffs as well.
But unfortunately, Tom Renney hasn't been able to find the right center to pair with Jagr since Nylander left.
I sincerely do not think that Sather had in mind to opt out of his contract to shed some cash. I do think that Sather thought that Jagr would hit his performance bonuses and that he would have that extra year kick in with no problem.
If I was Renney, which I'm not, I would form a trio of Jagr and Prucha on the wings with Straka centering the two. It is clear that Dubinsky, Gomez and Druy all play a different style than the future Hall of Famer. So put him with some guys hes had success with.
But if for some strange reason Jagr doesn't hit any of those required performance bonuses, I find it really hard to believe that the Rangers let him walk. Especially if they plan on walking into Prauge to open up the season next year.
And just for shits and giggles, who's the next captain if he does leave?

But what do you think the chances of Jagr returning to the Capitals? That is of course IF (and that's a pretty big if) the Rangers let him go.
I mean..he played there before, and his buddy Nylander is now there.
I actually hope that it doesn't happen. The prospect of an
Ovechkin-Nylander-Jagr line scares the **** out of me.
You can count Ovechkin all but gone. Once his contract is up, some team will offer him the max and sacrifice the 4 first rounders with no problem.

Why? Dubinsky plays a different style.
Dubinsky has chemistry with Jagr, and guess what he plays a much more similar style than Prucha does.
If anything I wouldn't mind seeing what Straka looks like in between Hossa and Jagr
Complete absurdity here, but what about the Jagr coming back to the Pens? Clearly the Rangers would never consider trading Jagr to anyone in their own division, but could you imagine a Jagr-Crosby-whoever line? It would be like Lemieux-Jagr back in the 90s…

Dubinsky plays a possession type game much like Jagr. He may not be the best fit, but is much better suited to center Jagr then either Drury or Gomez. I would like to see Jagr-Dubinsky-Straka for a couple more games as well. I have also wondered why Prucha never got a permenant chance to play with Jagr. He always puts himself in position to score, is gritty and can go into corners to help Jagr keep possession and would provide a good finishing touch with Jagr setting him up. We'll see what Renney does. He has plentyyy of options..
Just a random question. If anyone saw Sean Avery on the write in spot for the all-star game, it got me thinking. If Avery did make the all-star roster (magically), do you think he would be as much of an aggitator as in regular season games? I mean it is his best skill. I could see all of the all-stars getting pissed. Not to mention being on the same team as most of players he torments in the eastern conference. Let me know what you think…

I for one hope it happens. Would love to see it.
it would be awesome for jagr to come to the wings after the trade deadline, would fit perfectly with the puck possession style and as a sniper around a team of playmakers. hudler i think would have chemistry as a check-playmaking center/winger with jagr.
