Realistic Maple Leafs Offseason

This is what I think the leafs offseason should be like. There have been guys that write articles like this but put totally unrealistic numbers for player salaries. THESE PLAYER SALARIES AND TRADES ARE REALISTIC UNLIKE SOME OTHER POSTS…this is assuming the salary cap next year will be 47 million.

re-sign: Jeff o’neil 1.5 M 2 years
Mike Peca:2.2 M 2 years
Boyd Deveroux: 750 K 1 year

re-sign: Carlo Coliacavo: 800 K 2 years
Andy Wozniewski: 500 K 1 year
Ian White: 700 K 1 year

place Alexi Ponikarovski on Waivers
trade Pavel Kubina for a 2nd round draft pick
Sundin accepts $4.6 M option

Sign Gary Roberts: 2.5 M 2 years
sign Bill Guerin 5 M 4 years
sign Goalie jamie Mclennan: 600 K 1 year

the leafs payroll would be 45.109 wich should give them just under 2 M of cap room. Let’s now take a look at what the lines would look like:

*= The leafs moved Antrapov to the wing halfway through last year. His real position was center.

so what do you think?

Okay, there are so many things wrong with your article, so I will just make a list:

    1. Why would you want to sign Jeff O'Neill? We invested his 1.5 million in Darcy Tucker, so I suggest we start looking for a skilled winger to play with Mats.

    2. Signing Mike Peca for two years is a mistake, nobody knows how will he will play with his "bionic" knee. I think 2 million for 1 year is a good enough offer, take it or leave it.

    3. Why would you put Poni on waivers? He is still developing and is a much better player than Deveraux, we need to keep Poni.

    4. Sundin's option is 6.3Million, not 4.5 Million.

    5. Who the hell would take Kubina who is making 5 Million Dollars over the next 3 years for a 2nd round pick? Kubina is here to stay.

    6. Guerin and Roberts will not come to Toronto, I have just disproved all of your points so we will not have enough.

    7. McLennan is not a good back-up, has anybody thought of Mika Norronen?

    8. Antropov is also a UFA, u have to factor in his 1 million dollars.

wwwwoooowww….. please tell me you’re kidding. Re-sign O’Neill… it’s quiet obvious he can only perform on the top two lines in which he doesnt belong. He’s been a healthy scratch recently and hasn’t produced a point in the last 15 games. Probably could get Peca for 2 mil. Placing Ponikarovsky on waivers? hahahaha. Sure trade Kubina, rather see Gill out though… Roberts isn’t worth 2.5 anymore; they didn’t sign Roberts 2 years ago to the exact deal, what makes you think they will two years later. Bill Guerin, no. Better wingers out there; probably could get Bert for a bargain because of recent injuries. He’s also showed interest in signing with the Leafs. Why sign Mclennan? Give me a reason… there’s better backup options… Antropov; not Antrapov plays better on the wing.

you say realistic? funny…. sundin's option isnt 4.6 million… he will be getting paid 5.3 mill, and will take 6 mill off the cap
    oneill is done, hes gone
peca signed a 1 year contract for a reason, he wont be back
    perreault might be back

leafs will pursue smyth, briere, or drury.
antropov isnt a good centre, thats y hes on the wing now
roberts is too old, and is definitely not worth 2.5 million
mclennan isnt as good as other ppl out there… like backstrom, who is a UFA next year
ponikarovski is a great player, and plays well with antropov

tucker wouldnt be on the first line,
    Briere Sundin Steen
    kulemin perreault wellwood
    antropov stajan poni

I don't like resigning O'Neil, and you don't have to put Poni on waivers because he's a RFA, so basically let someone else give him a qualifying offer if you don't want him.

Also Antropov has moved back and forth from wing to centre since he's been with the leafs remember 2001? Antropov – Sundin – Mogilny ?
