Red Wings trying to sign Bertuzzi and Schneider

Detnews.com is reporting that the Red Wings are looking to meet with Todd Bertuzzi’s agent in the hopes of reaching an agreement on a new contract. Apparently they were set to meet last week but the plans were sidetracked when flights were delayed.

While Bertuzzi would be a perfect fit with the Red Wings one has to wonder if he is a little concerned about the grinding role that he was relegated to this offseason. HTR speculates that Bertuzzi will sign a one year contract for a reduced price with the Wings or Leafs on the condition that he will get premier ice time. A one year deal would allow him to regain his big money contract down the road if he is able to pull his stuff together and revive his once fantastic career.

It is also noted that the DetNews.com also speculates that the Wings are interested in resigning Mathieu Schneider but may have a difficult time doing so because of the huge contract that the Flyers dolled out to Kimmo Timonen yesterday.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Do the Wings need Bertuzzi or Schneider, after Nashville guts their rosters, the Wings will be handed yet another division title.  Columbus, Chicago, Nashville and St.Louis seven times each a season.  This is way the schedule blows, and the NHL is too inept to fix it.

  2. BruMagnus says:

True they'll easily take their division, but that's irrelevant.

They need a Cup-winning team. Don't think they are at all satisfied winning their division and the Conference and even the President's Trophy.

I know what you're saying, but I don't think Detroit is looking for Central Division crowns. They want the rings. Bertuzzi isn't effective any more in my opinion, but if they want to sign him, more power to them. What would be interesting is I recall something in the trade with Florida that stipulated draft pick compensation if Bertuzzi is resigned. Is he worth a 1st round pick to sign at his age and physical ability? Ehh…

  4. Have2BeLeaf says:

Florida got the 1st round pick just for having Detroit reach the WCF.

  5. Jrugges says:

From what I've heard Bertuzzi said he'd like to finnish his career as a wing. I have never once heard ever anywhere but here and now that he'll go to Toronto for a reduced price.

  6. CaptainAvery says:

More like Bertuzzi had his one good season, and after that *****ed up his career with his bullshit cheap shot on Steve Moore. Quite frankly I don't care where this asshole goes as long as it ain't with the Habs.

  7. dcz28 says:

You both have it wrong…Florida already got a 2nd round pick for the Wings making it to the Western Conference Finals and it would have been a 1st rounder if they made it to the finals but they didn't so it only cost them the 2nd rounder so far. If they resign Bertuzzi it will cost them another 2nd rounder that's it.

  8. Have2BeLeaf says:

Wrong, it was a first rounder for making it to the WCF.

  9. tacitus says:

Detroit has wanted out of their division for years themselves. Ken Holland was promised if the next time any teams were shuffled the wings would be in the Ottawa division

  10. tacitus says:

moore got a cheapshot for giving one out

  11. tacitus says:

with the cap going up to around 49 mil the wings should offer schneider 4 for 2 years. hasek 2.5 for 1 year and bertuzzi 3 for 1 year, actually 2 for 1 year but he prolly wants 3

BTW being a huge wings fan, i never thought Bertuzzi looked good in a puck possesion style of hockey.. I say don't sign bert and save money for the deadline and grab Naslund
