Red Wings trying to sign Bertuzzi and Schneider

Detnews.com is reporting that the Red Wings are looking to meet with Todd Bertuzzi’s agent in the hopes of reaching an agreement on a new contract. Apparently they were set to meet last week but the plans were sidetracked when flights were delayed.

While Bertuzzi would be a perfect fit with the Red Wings one has to wonder if he is a little concerned about the grinding role that he was relegated to this offseason. HTR speculates that Bertuzzi will sign a one year contract for a reduced price with the Wings or Leafs on the condition that he will get premier ice time. A one year deal would allow him to regain his big money contract down the road if he is able to pull his stuff together and revive his once fantastic career.

It is also noted that the DetNews.com also speculates that the Wings are interested in resigning Mathieu Schneider but may have a difficult time doing so because of the huge contract that the Flyers dolled out to Kimmo Timonen yesterday.

It will be interesting to see what happens.
