I don't see the reason for all the criticism of the deal. Rinne is a top 5 goalie in the league easily, and if Nashville can get Suter and Weber Committed with Trotz coaching, they can be a consistent playoff team by adding servicable players around that core and geneart good playoff revenue. From a fiscal standpoint it makes sense. With a little success and the buzz created by signing the big three, they may be able to push the budget and become a team that can really make some noise in the playoffs with a key addition or two.

We've seen that markets like this have to overpay, see Koivu in Minnesota, or Nash in Columbus. It's just the way things are. Without these players the team could be in for financial ruin as without a core, fans will have no players to identify with and will slowly leave. Small market teams need familar faces for their star players to keep fans attention.

The days of nashville as a small budget team are over...

The Chairman/Owner stated yesterday that they are committed to signing both Weber and Suter long term, and Weber's deal will be similar to Rinne's. He stated the money and the desire to keep the three is there. He said that management has the green light to spend money to retain the core. He also stated a commitment to improving the offense, saying that they know you can't win on defense and goaltending alone.

Poile also essentially said that the spending was going up, alot. "If you follow through now with what Shea gets in salary and what Pekka gets in salary, what Suter could logically expect in salary, you could see where our payroll is going. That’s why you hear me talk about the window of opportunity for our franchise. The window of opportunity is not just today, it’s as long as we sign these core players. That’s what I’m trying to hit home to them to get them to believe in."

He also stated that they are looking for an offensive piece, be it Radulov or someone else or both.

Nashville is looking to build a team that is dominant...this is the start of it.

Pretty safe to assume Suter won't be in Nashville next year, with Weber probably being the more valued piece, and holding RFA status. I forgot about guys like Blum, Wilson and Kostitsyn. Nashville has been the smartest-run team for years IMO, but I think this one will cost them big-time.

Suter is in for a massive pay day on the open market. Really interested to see where he lands.

Things are going to get very interesting in Nashville. They only spend about 50 mil. they already have 30mil next year committed to 11 players. 8 forwards 1 defenceman and a goalie

Blum

Suter and Weber would cost them close to 15mil. even if they spent to the cap they'd only have abput 18mil to fill out their roster.

I was shocked when I heard this. Rinne is a great goalie but I honestly think this is an absolutely terrible deal given the situation they're in. They only spend $50 million in cap room and they still have their two most important players to sign, both of whom will be asking for similar money. 1/7 of their budget on a goalie, for 7 more years nonetheless. Unreal.

I'd put Fleury in the top 10 goalies in the league. He's had some consistency issues but he's proven it when it counts (aside from world jr's obviously lol). Always around top 10 in numbers and has won a cup.

Honestly I don't understand what people see in M.A Fleury I mean hes not in the top 10 of goalies in the league.

Also the idea of giving 7 million to Rinne sends a statement to Weber. That were wanting to win. Weber is not all about the money he wants to win as well. Also 7 million per year is a lot for a goalie but your talking about a top 3 goalie here. A guy who put up numbers last some people can only dream of having 10 games in. IMO 7 mill spent in a proper way.

I realize that some markets have to overpay, but fact is a lot of just as or more proven goalies are making less, like Kipper, Miller, Fleury, Ward etc. I am not sure he would have got 7 as a ufa, but who knows especially until there is a new CBA?
