Ribeiro nearly a Blackhawk last Season?

Matthias Brunet reports Mike Ribeiro was nearly part of a major trade last winter involving the Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks. The deal supposedly would’ve seen Ribeiro, Jose Theodore and Pierre Dagenais shipped to Chicago in exchange for Nikolai Khabibulin and Adrian Aucoin, but was nullified when Theodore broke his ankle. I think that this would have been a great trade but then again if that had happened Huet probably would never have gotten the chance to become the star he is at the moment so I guess it all worked out, especially since Khabibulin was just as bad as Theo last season it would of been a struggling star goalie for another struggling star goalie, maybe they were hoping the change of scenery would change that. Who knows but even though Aucoin had a sub-par year last season i think he would have been a great addition to give us more blueline depth. Here’s the link:

Terrible trade. Thank u baby Jesus for Jose’s broken Ankle. Wasn’t the whole point of shipping Theo was that he played terrible and made 5.5 million? Doesn’t that sound like Khabibulin except he makes close to 7 million over the next 4 years? And why would we want Aucoin at 4.5? The TSN scouting report says that he has a wicked slapshot (already have Souray for that) and that he isn’t a good skater and that he has a wonky shoulder. A terrible skater, with a messed up shoulder, yeah, Montreal shoulda been all over that one.

thank god that trade didnt happen. we wouldnt have been able to get johnson or samsonov if it had gone thru. that would leave us with what, a slitghly better defense, and our forwards woulda been the same as last year. let alone paying nikoli close to 7 mill per year, ha, thats a waste.

I don’t think Gainey would make a trade like that.It would not have improved the team and would have cost too much toward the salary cap.

Its said everythin happens 4 a reason, and thank god theo broke his ankle cause now we dont have him nor khabi instead we have aebi and samsonov an johnson an Huet got 2 prove himself….

As much as he is disliked, I think someone who scored 51 Points is worth more than a 3rd or 4th round pick. Johnson was an exception as it was more of a Salary dump. Right now Ribs is likely worth more, and if he starts the season with Sammy and Kovalev his stock may be even higher…it seems as low as it can go due to his attitude at some points, but he still can produce.

Riberiro is going to have an insane season, 90 pts. and then will be paid way to much next season, when he wont do squat!

    biggest rip off ever

Khabibulin is way too overpaid. Glad it didn’t happen.
