Room for one more

With the latest signings in Toront, there appears to be onespot left on the 23 man roster.

The Leafs salary situaion looks like this:

Defense

Bryan McCabe……..5,850,000.00

Pavel Kubina……….5,000,000.00

Tomas Kaberle…….4,250,000.00

Hal Gill……………….2,100,000.00

Carlo Coliacovo……… 901,740.00

Ian White………………488,000.00

Staffan Kronwall……..612,000.00

Jay Harrison………………450,000.00 won’t count against cap

Andy Wozniewski………………450,000.00 won’t count against cap

Forward

Mats Sundin…………6,300,000.00

Darcy Tucker……….1,596,000.00

Jeff O’Neill…………..1,500,000.00

Chad Kilger……………900,000.00

Alexander Steen……..770,180.00

Alex Ponikarovsky…..725,000.00

Wade Belak……………675,000.00

John Pohl………………450,000.00

Ben Ondrus………………….475, 000.00

Nik Antropov……….1,007,000.00

Bates Battaglia……………..500,000.00

Goal

Andrew Raycroft……….2,000,000.00

Mikael Tellqvist………..589,000.00

Jean-Sebastien Aubin…525,000.00 won’t count against cap

Buyouts

Tie Domi………………….833,000.00

Ed Belfour………………..1,540,000.00

Total……………………$ 38,960,920.00

Leaving $ 5,039,080.00 to get:

3 forwards

RFA’s (with qualifying offers)

Matt Stajan……………880,000.00

Kyle Wellwood……….680,000.00

Stajan is expected to accept his qualifying offer, an wellwood is expected to negotiate a higher salary and a one way deal. This means that Stajn and Wellwood will likely both go for $880,000. You may notice that I put the 23 players with the highest salaries on the roster and not the ones that I would choose.

This leaves $ 3,279,080 in cap room. The leafs will likely not use all of their leftover cap room, but it is likely that some of it will be used to sign on more UFA forward, making the leafs roster look like this:

Tucker – Sundin – O’neill

Poni – (UFA) – Antropov

Steen – Wellwood – Stajan

Kilger – Pohl – Battaglia

Healthy scratches: Belak, Ondrus

Kaberle – McCabe

Kubina – Colaiacovo

Gill – White

Healthy scratch: Kronwall

Raycroft

Tellqvist

Possible UFA’s include

Peca – 2.5 million

Allison – 3 million

Carter – 3 million

McCabe doesn’t make 5.85 mil this year tho, that is hi salary but the stuff that goes to the cap is 7.15 mil because of where his birthday falls.

  2. Francis10 says:

as well, raycroft makes 1.8 this year that goes towards the cap

  3. goleafsgo1231 says:

people people… it’s the average that gets put up against the cap not the salary they earn that year… for example raycroft makes 1.8 this year followed by 2 and 2.2 for an average of 2 million which is what will be put up against the cap the figures above all seem correct which is not exactly good news because were only gonna be able to sign one guy my bets on Peca but who knows…

  4. Francis10 says:

If that is the case then, why is mccabe salary going towards the cap this year as 7.15 mil. if you dived 28.5 by 5 that doesn’t average out to be 7.15. Look at tsn

tsn does it wrong we’ve talked about it before. TSN will show you what the leafs have to pay this year, not what counts against the cap
