Rumors and News from

Some have been wondering about future of Todd McLellan in San Jose. No question in my mind he’ll be back with the Sharks. I would not, however, be surprised if the Sharks look to hire an experienced or veteran assistant coach.

There were rumours that Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle was going to hire his own assistants but I am told now that both Scott Gordon and Greg Cronin are expected back.

The Canadiens are in the process of touching base with potential head coach candidates including Michel Therrien, Guy Carbonneau, Marc Crawford, and Bob Hartley. Interviews have not been set up and the process is in the early stages.

The Flames head coach search is also still in the early stages. A list of 10-12 candidates is to be pared to 5-6 for interviews. Bob Hartley and Troy Ward are prominent.

There are crickets on the Edmonton Oilers’ coaching front. Tom Renney’s contract is expiring. So is that of general manager Steve Tambellini’s although most believe that a Tambellini extension is done.

Renney’s lodge brothers in the coaching fraternity are hoping he’s not being kept on in Edmonton only to be cut loose later when no jobs are available.

And finally, I expect Alain Vigneault’s extension with the Vancouver Canucks to be worked on and presumably completed in the next two weeks.

There was an asst coach Carlyle and the Leafs said was coming next fall. From Anaheim I'm guessing. A couple months ago that was a definite happening. What was that guys name?

  2. wayne2 says:

I believe Montreal should hire Guy Carbonneau.
Calgary should hire Bob Hartley and Marc Crawford to Edmonton.

So… anyone else think these playoffs kind of suck?

  4. Boston_Bruins says:

Galchenyuk ranked 14th in ISS's May rankings? I still think he's a lock for top5 5 but some team could be getting a major steal.

  5. nordiques100 says:

    Scott Arneil

but it looks now though like Gordon and Cronin stick around.
  6. reinjosh says:

ISS has played hardball against him. He's been around there for a while now.

    Grigorenko fell a spot too.

“People discount how competitive this kid is,” Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins said. “He wants to be on the ice always, he’s got fire in his gut and he wants to win. Those are the main things I want in a player.“Every time he steps over the boards he’s a real danger to score … he’s made great strides in managing the puck, he’s better in his own zone. He’s come a long way from where he was a year ago.”Dallas Eakins on Kadri. Good things to hear.
Also good to hear this from Kadri: “The one thing I’ve noticed is I’m a bit more mature,” he said. “I’m also growing into my body a little more, I’ve stabilized myself from the bottom of the circles down. That’s a crucial part of the game now, to spin off checks and take the puck to the net, which I’ve been doing a lot in the last few games.“It’s a big difference between the regular season … just the attention to detail in the playoffs is so big that I didn’t even realize it until it happened.”

I kind of agree, all 4 remaining teams play a boring style of hockey, but the only thing that matters is which one's get the job done. I don't even think that it's the fact that two of the 4 teams are quiet hockey markets in LA and Phoenix, but it's their style that are boring.

If I had to choose I think LA is the most exciting to watch and will probably win the cup. I they so win the cup, everyone is going to be talking about how Jonathan Quickly they won the
Is still think one of the most exciting playoff finals in the last 10 years could have been anaheim v.s. buffalo in '06, but no we got the complete opposite in edmonton and carolina, which provided one of the most boring playoff finals in the last 10 years.
When Chicago won the cup in '10 I picked them to win it right from the beginning, not because I thought they were going to win it, but because of all 16 teams they were arguably the most exciting to watch.
Call me prejudice, but I love watching the young fast skilled teams.

Almost every single member of this site believes he will got top 5, only ISS has him out of the top 10, I don't get it. Being injured for almost an entire season prob didn't help his rank and the possibility of playing in the NHL next season, but you cannot ignore his talent. I think he will go top 5, even if he needs another year or two to develop because he missed an entire year, I think most teams are willing to look past that and be patient, cuz he has amazing potential.

i'm telling you guys. The leafs can take a page out of the stupid sense book and get some success in the AHL, this playoffs run is HUGE!!! for players like Kadri, D'Amigo, Frattin, Gardiner, Holzer, Scrivens, i want to say Colborne but he's been injured for a while now. Hopefully Kadri makes the team next season with what he's learned.

Does anyone know if Ross will join the marlies now that the hawks are eliminated?? it's not like they need him because the marlies have tons of grit, but you can never have too much.
And has Ashton been a healthy scratch for the entire playoffs?? It would be nice to get him some playoff experience, but even if he does it is more than likely Kadri, D'Amigo and Frattin have a better chance of making the leafs than Ashton, and maybe next season Ashton can become the next D'Amigo or Frattin for the marlies.
  11. reinjosh says:

It's unfortunate Colborne has struggled with injury. It's been a common theme over the past season and a half for him and I think it's worked against his development. Hopefully he can stay healthy next year and really take a big step in his development.

I'm not sure. I'd imagine there is some sort of rule restricting an addition this late into the playoffs. So I'd think that the answer would be no, he wouldn't be joining them.
Also I think Ashton is injured, at least that's what was mentioned on MapleLeafHotstove.
  12. frankinboltonleafs says:

Thanks….you know I had to look and completely missed Farrish coming in March. Its a curious thing when a GM picks the assistants as Burke has done the last year and a half and the coach just has to accept it. Just seems weird.

  13. frankinboltonleafs says:

I wasn't referring to Farrish but rather the other two being held over Arniel.

  14. lafleur10 says:

galchenyuk will in all likely hood go in the top 3 ,infact the habs will pick him at 3 with our pick

  15. lafleur10 says:

wouldn't be a bad hire carbonneau is a really good coach,he's plays a very exciting style and we had our best season in years with him as coach,he led us to 1st place in the conference so not a bad choice,i'd still perfer crawford but carbonneau isn't a bad 2nd choice, i like him better than hartley!

  16. LeafsFTW17 says:

I think Ashton has a concussion, I read a tweet about that during the first or second round of the playoffs.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a bunch of the current Marlies in the leafs top 9 next year. I believe that Kadri is either going to play for the leafs next season or he will be traded. He deserves an NHL spot and has proven to be a game changer.

I would like to see Kadri take Macarthur's spot, swap Macarthur and something else for a bigger, top 9 forward like Chris Stewart who seems to be avail.

  17. JoelLeafs says:

Torts is a fcuking idiot. Your leading scorer (who is on the ice to score, if he plays well in his own end that's a bonus) doesn't need to be sent a message by being benched. Seriously, what kind of counter logic is he going with? Oh we desperately need a goal in the 3rd to tie it? Better keep the guy that scores the most goals on the team off the ice… derp derp derp!

You want to scold your best player? Send him out the ext shift and make him cover for his ass. I'm not saying NY would have won the game for sure if he was in, but they were owning Jersey all game, how can he justify benching Gaborik? Ugh.
  18. JoelLeafs says:

    unless he goes 1st overall.

  19. JoelLeafs says:

Sorry, but it isn't the 80s anymore.

  20. JoelLeafs says:

Anyone know of any place to stream Marlies games for free?

  21. thisgamewelose says:

Haha. Thank you. Last night I wanted so badly to post something like this on, Facebook, and pretty much every forum I visit.

I think you meant they were owning NY all game, and I definitely agree that you can't single him out.
Gaborik did the right thing by getting in the shooting lane. The puck went around him and got deflected. I'm aware that Gabby needs to be stronger on his skates and players are able to knock him off the puck without much of a fight, but I'm sick of this "Lay down in front of the puck or you're not playing."
Del Zotto is forced to play as a 3rd pairing defensemen because Stu Bickel and Stralman can't be trusted on the Ice together.  Emminger should've taken Bickels spot once he came back from being injured, now he'll just be cold and out of place since he hasn't played in a long time.
If the Rangers didn't have a good season, Torts would've been fired.  The credit he gets drives me crazy.  It only takes 1 bad shift for him to drop players down to the 4th line.
  22. JoelLeafs says:

My theory on Tortz is that the media loves him. He animated and funny, shouts and screams, and his press conferences are hysterical. Our opinions are largely informed (or at least influenced) by the media, and because they love him, he gets credit. Every good coach I've had has motivated players, not got mad at them. Yeah, they sometimes yelled and screamed, but not at us, to us.

I think they like him in NY because he embodies the typical angry New Yorker. ***** Tortz (though I'm sure he's a nice guy in real life).
  23. nordiques100 says:

i think personally they "auditioned" to keep their jobs and Carlyle liked I guess what they were doing.

I think they're ok. Arniel was fired after he got twisted around in a post game news conference where he didnt even know the stats for his own guys. I'm not a fan.
I think Gordon could coach again somewhere. Toronto is in ok shape. Carlyle is more hands on. He actually works than delagates like Wilson.
  24. FlamingHomer says:

I don't want Hartley on the Flames but would really want Crawford on the Oilers.

  25. reinjosh says:

I'm wondering the same thing. It would be nice to have it on my laptop while watching whatever conference final game is on TV.

Nice to see them win last night. Kadri two assists, Colborne/Frattin get goals. Scrivens the shutout. This team is doing well right now,
  26. lafleur10 says:

    he won't go 1st overall though yakupov will that's a fact .
