RUMOURS DU JOUR

Isles GM Garth Snow has been busy working the phones. Sources say he’s trying to move LW Blake Comeau, who was pointless in eight games going into Saturday. He’s making $2.5 million this season and is a looming RFA in July. Not sure if Comeau is in the doghouse of coach Jack Capuano, but nobody should be happy with Comeau’s start coming off 46 points last season. The Isles may also be shopping for a second-line centre.

C Frans Nielsen is set to become a UFA in the summer and after making $550,000 this season, the 27-year-old will want to cash in on his success … Leafs GM Brian Burke is one of the few trying peddle a blueliner. He’s willing to move D Cody Franson, the club’s seventh defenceman who has suited up for only three games this season and is minus-4 …

People in Columbus must be wondering how much more they’re going to have to endure before there’s a GM/coaching shakeup with Scott Howson and Scott Arniel. The club is off to a 2-10-1 start, captain Rick Nash has pulled a disappearing act on the ice, the goaltending is awful and the defence is bad. In the face of one of the worst starts in NHL history, Nash bravely told the Columbus Dispatch: “The players here love what we’ve got, management, coaches … everyone’s very excited and very happy with what we have and we wouldn’t want to lose it.” Maybe it’s time for the Jackets to consider trading Nash.
