Ryan to the Leafs?

I’m also told no deal for #Leafs today.. but that something could be in the works between them and the #Ducks involving Bobby Ryan

worst f****** officiating ive ever seen tn in leafs ottawa game.. first ottawa goal boarderline interference okay ill give that one too you but spezza's goal? dude was playing twister with reimer it looked like? missed calls galore.. faceoff placement was even awful?  phaneufs "roughing" penalty when he faught foligno? WTFF? its a fight.. obviously its gonna get rough? lombardi needs to use his speed to drive to the net after beating the guy on the outside none of this brutal angel shot bullshit.. looks good but you'll never score from there and you clearly have the guy beat.  i liked how they used brown a little more shifts in the third too try and get some energy. Gotta feel for reimer, third goal meh it was a nice shot but he had to try and make the save while getting body checked on the first two goals. okay rant over.

  2. TheLeafNation91 says:

At the end of the day…THEY STILL LOST.

Thats all that matters unfortunately, you cannot blame refs or come up with excuses.

Good for Ottawa though, down 2-0 in a must win game for both teams and they came back and performed. While the Leafs, once again, lost another crucial game.

    NOTHING wrong with that.

  3. Steven_Leafs says:

you definitely didn't watch the game. The refs were really bad this game. Phaneuf got a roughing call in addition to his fight with Foligno which was retarded. He didn't do anything that would warrant 2 extra minutes and since the officials didn't call a delayed penalty before the fight he got it from the fight. And the Spezza goal was dumb. He was sitting on the goalie, if the back ref didn't see it the one at the net had to since the puck was on Spezza's stick for crying out loud.

Oh well, I kind of hope the Leafs keep losing anyway, even if they did make the playoffs they wont win any games, the last 3 games they played they had no energy at all. The 3rd period today they were only down by 1 and I saw no drive at all by anyone.

  4. TheLeafNation91 says:

I did watch the game (I saw Spezza sitting on Reimer), but at the end of the day, I don't give a flying f*** about refs. Theirs no defending Toronto, they've done this  all season. They look great, put a couple wins together, and follows it up with a 3-4 game losing streak. How is that positive?

At the end of the day, the scoreboard is what counts and they lost, no ifs or buts about it.

Ottawa was outplayed, but they in the end wanted it more and they got it. Good for them. Nothing but respect for a team that goes out, plays to their best, and earns a W. Great coaching.

Also, respect to Bryan Murray for getting Turris. He gave up a gem in Rundblad, but needless to say the deal is working out really well for him.

  5. Boston_Bruins says:

Bruins have been playing like complete shit since that Canucks game. Marchand can't be this important to the team can he? Unlike the 3-7 start, which I actually don't think the Bruins played that poorly, this has been absolutely terrible against very weak competition. I'm shocked that they went 3-2 in these last 5 games.

  6. TheLeafNation91 says:

    Starting to see a trend:

    -Thomas Vezina
    -Thomas sucks
    -Thomas Vezina
    -Thomas sucks

Don't worry…You know what happens next year? lol

  7. senators_choke says:

I wouldn't worry about Boston. They need to coast, otherwise they're gonna burn themselves out.

  8. toronto77 says:

The refs are getting worse and worse every single fvcking year. Spezza's goal was bullshit, he is fvcking sitting on reimer's shoulder. And when the play was under review all the referees on the ice and commentators on TV were talkin about was if it touched Spezza's stick???? are you fvckinh kidding me?? not one of them mentioned the fact that spezza was interfeering with reimer, not even the panel after the game. I would have broken spezza's jaw on the next shift.

I have absolutely no respect for referees. They should not have the power to make a decision that can change the momentum of the game.

**If marchand got 5 games for his hit, then I think Foligno is guaranteed atleast 3 games for his.**

  9. toronto77 says:

Bobby Ryan is a great player, but as weird as this sounds I don't know where he would fit? He is without a doubt a top line player, but he is a winger. So if you put him on the top line do you centre him between Lup and Kes? on TSN it says he can play LW or C. but has he ever played centre in the NHL?

Do you put him on the second line with Kule and Grabo? You would think he would be almost too good for that line. If your going to get Ryan do you only aquire him to be in your top 3?

  10. senators_choke says:

I don't know man. All I know is we need quality forwards or game breakers like Ryan.

Except for Kessel and Lupul, I would be okay with trading any of the forwards on the current roster.

Grabo is good, but if we have to trade him in a package for a Ryan, do it by all means.

  11. TheLeafNation91 says:

Well, apparently the Otters did suck that much.

McKegg has 8 points in 5 games and a +4…Compared to the 34 points in 35 games and -39 he had in Erie. Phew.

I like that McKegg's in London…Basically because each player that franchise has touched has turned into gold!!!

Looks like Spooner is liking Sarnia to.

  12. TheLeafNation91 says:

Agreed. Lupul and Kessel are untouchable at this point.

I would actually try and protect Kulemim…Not because hes any good, but the Leafs don't have many gritty forwards. So we gotta keep what we have.

Who knows? Ryan and Kulemin could be a dangerous physical duo for years to come.

  13. blaze says:

Kulemin and Ryan would be deadly on the wings, not much nastiness but great size and skill. That one of if not the best group of top 6 wingers in the NHL.

I have no qualms with acquiring Ryan the only issue is the assets we would give up would prevent the Leafs from grabbing a true top line center.

I don't really like giving up Schenn, Kadri (+?) for Ryan either. I wonder if they would be interested in a MacArthur,Kadri and maybe a 2nd? or a mid level prospect? I'd want to send a full time NHL winger back to punch some room on the wings.

  14. blaze says:

It's really too bad the Blues are playing so well because the guy I covet is still Stewart. Not quite a game breaker like Ryan and his foot speed doesn't completely mesh with this group but he's got the nastiness.

If you're looking for a guy to go toe to toe with Lucic that can play in the top 6 there's your man. From Toronto too and would be a great fit parked in front of the net on the PP. Having a down year but I just can't see St Louis taking any semi important piece of a roster that's playing so well.

  15. TheLeafNation91 says:

I really have no issues in trading Kadri. I feel like he is an up/down career player and I would like another player that is more consistent.

Ryan/Kulemin won't be nasty…But Ryan should score, and if Kulemin ever gets his act together, should score as well. They will be tough to get off the puck and both players do work the boards pretty well. Something this squad is lacking.

I would be open to trading MacArthur because I think he can be replaced, even through free agency.

He might not be having the greatest season, but if he's available in the offseason, I don't mind signing a guy like Brad Boyes to replace MacArthur if you can trade him for an asset.

  16. blaze says:

Ya I like MacArthur and he's playing more or less as advertised, but what you see is what you get. I by no means want to give him away but this is pretty much it for Mac. If it makes sense to move him, you do, long term he doesn't have much affect on the team.

And yeah he could be replaced through FA (probably more expensive though) or preferably internally (Frattin).

  17. TheLeafNation91 says:

Like I said…As of right now, in 3 years time and devloped properly, I think Biggs is our best option. Power forward and the kid is a great fighter.

As well, if he goes to free agency, I would possibly like to sign Paul Gaustard to the third-line duty role.

6-5, decent skill offensively and defensively, and he is a great faceoff guy. Him and Steckel would make us huge down the middle.

  18. TheLeafNation91 says:

    I agree.

I've mentioned this before, but I like Frattin's game. Wont be a big time player but he will be a very good role player.

Decent skill, not a afraid to drive to the net, decent shot, great wheels, and other qualities you like in role players.

  19. blaze says:

Gaustad would be a great 3rd line center, doubt Buffalo lets him walk though, and to Toronto of all teams.

Another guy I think could really handle a 3rd line role is Jarret Stoll in LA. Assuming the re-sign Grabo, which I think they will though there will be 4 centers already signed next year. Will the try to make a true top notch 3rd line or keep with 2 scoring support type lines.

By next year Colborne should be more than ready to fill in for injuries down the middle so I'm not sure if Burke takes a flyer out on a UFA center or not.

Oh and too long for Biggs, I'm absolutely all for developing him properly but by no means am willing to wait for him. It's an absolute crapshoot at what he will become in the NHL or how effective a fighter he will be at this level. Burke doesn't have 3 years to wait for some kid. Get help now and whenever these guys make the case that they're ready, you ship someone out to make room.

  20. blaze says:

Ya Frattin has lots to love about his game. He has the grit, strength and two way play to excel in a third line role.

His speed, shot and even dangles make him perfect for spot work in the top 6 when needed (injuries, slumps etc.). I'm pretty high on Frattin.

  21. JoelLeafs says:

I still maintain that LN91 isn't a leafs fan. Imagine all his posts under a name like "LfsSuxs_91" or "HabsNation91", and suddenly his diatribes make a lot more sense.

  22. blaze says:

Cmon Liles hurry back buddy. The attack from the back end is much more consistent with you in the line up.

Does anyone think Komisarek could go to the Island in the off-season? I don't think Snow is a big Burke fan which could prevent a deal right there but does it not make sense?

I know everyone hates him but he has been better this year, and I still think he can be effective in the right role. Actually if there wasn't such a logjam on D I wouldn't mind keeping him. But 4.5 for 6th D is awful steep.

He seems like just such a perfect fit for NY. He's from the area would be great in the dressing room and would easily replace one of the likely out going vet stay at home Dman (Staios,Eaton,Jurcina?). He gets paid less than his cap for the next two years which helps them hit the cap floor.

If the Leafs don't make a big splash using some of the young D as bait then I'd like to keep all the young guys and see Aulie as the 7th man and find a new home for Komo. Frees up some cap, not that there is really anyone that interesting for the Leafs to acquire in FA. Actually it's to the point where I almost hope the sign no FAs.

  23. 93killer93 says:

Erie is 0-5 since the McKegg trade, and they were shut out 2 of those games.  I only wish he would have been traded earlier. It would have been nice to see him make the World Juniors.

  24. blaze says:

wheres that Islander guy? do you read this Leaf nonsense?

  25. TheLeafNation91 says:

Theres a difference between being a biased and non-biased Leafs fan.

I hate Ottawa and Montreal…But how can you not show some respect for what Ottawa has done? It's miraculous.

  26. TheLeafNation91 says:

    I don't mind trading Komisarek.

  27. JoelLeafs says:

Exactly what a Sens fan in disguise would say…

  28. TheLeafNation91 says:

This site is called 'Hockey Trade Rumors'…Not 'Leafs Trade Rumors'.

Were allowed to opine on hockey, not just about the Leafs FYI.

Leave Ontario, theres a whole other world out there.

  29. reinjosh says:

up/down career player? What gives you that idea? The fact that 40 odd games have already determined that?

  30. blaze says:

I don't agree with that statement LN91 made, but if Kadri is needed to bring top notch talent I'm willing to pull the trigger.

  31. blaze says:

One thing that bugs me, I cant remember which game but the sportsnet 'analysts' we're going on about how its do or die time for Kadri and how if he can't make some impact now its time to trade him.

I really can't understand this logic. If he we're in Detroit would anybody dare utter a line like that? Instead all you hear is raving about how great there system is and they never rush anyone and slowly bring along all their prospects. What's the deal the Leafs can't do that too?

  32. TheLeafNation91 says:

Its my opinion, but I've always felt like that.

He will be a decent player, but if you can pull the trigger for a top-notch talent then I would do it 100%. He would be the player most teams would ask for.

I prefer Colborne, I like big C's, that can play a long the boards (I've seen it a lot more now then before with him, with decent speed and good hands and he will be a decent top-six option for the Leafs next season and beyond.

And like I said, we have tons of talented wingers so I don't mind trading Kadri. Good player, but would rather upgrade.

  33. TheLeafNation91 says:

I guess you kind of hope the Sabres let him walk. lol.

He's always been one of my favorites players, Burke would adore him.

However, paying him 2.5 million to 3 would be the maximum I go.

I'm also basing this on Colby getting a huge pay cut when his contract comes and Lombardi walks after next year.

  34. TheLeafNation91 says:

I was actually thinking of a two-way third-line duty in the future.

I wonder, hypothetically, how him with a guy like Gaustad (I can ream) and Ross would work out. lol

  35. JoelLeafs says:

I'd tell you to go look up "sarcasm" and "humor", but Wikipedia is down for the day.

  36. Steven_Leafs says:

I know Toronto didn't deserve the win but when games are decided by 1 goal, the ref have to get it right the first time. Especially when it is that obvious. Too many games by being decided by bad calls, the refs need to be better.

  37. reinjosh says:

That's my big deal with all the talk around him. I have no issue with trading him for elite talent. None at all. I gladly make that trade. However trading him because he hasn't made an impact at f*cking 21 in ludicrous. He's probably the most raw talented player in the entire organization (other than Kessel). You don't just trade those types of player because they haven't made a large impact after 44 NHL games.

I never understood that. It's a double standard with Detroit. They can do no harm with players (even though they have). Its just part of being in a high media market like Toronto I guess. Over analyzation of everything.
  38. reinjosh says:

I know in the summer TheOnlyIslesFan was into the idea of getting Komisarek. Funny enough so we're a lot of people on hfboards that were Isles fans, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if his improved play will cause the Isles to lose interest since Burke might ask for more but I think it could work.

I've grown to like him a little more but yeah I'd prefer to not have 4.5 on the bottom pairing as well.
  39. toronto77 says:

Burke can easily aquire help through current roster players, draft picks and more developed prospects. I would not want to trade Biggs, I think he has the potential to become the closest player to a Gary Roberts that we have in the system.

  40. TheOnlyIslesFan says:

Sergei Kostistyn and Rob Schremp are former London Nights….I just read that you said Basically lol.

  41. TheOnlyIslesFan says:

I'm still pro taking on Komisarek – but I can guarantee you Snow is a lot more shrewd then you all think he is – remember last year when he grabbed Nabby on waivers and EVERYONE was screaming about how stupid he was doing this and classless and so on…paid off so far hasn't it?

Snow would be willing to take on Komisarek but Burke loves his American guys and I guarantee he's got an overvalue on a guy who is capable of playing top 4 minutes and potential to be a beast when he's not playing under pressure.
